I really love that they are putting an spf 50 cap. It drives me bonkers seeing so many people use a pea size of spf because they claim it has higher spf and/or "blends well". Eeek! I personally think physical sunscreen is far better (for me at least) than chemical spf and I can rub it all over my eyes without any burning. There are plenty of elegant physical spf's out there that don't leave a white cast. But it has taken me years to test and discover my faves. Unfortunately there are too many that do leave a white cast so I think people just give up. Thanks for another wonderful and informative video!

To be fair, you appear to be a Caucasian woman in the light to medium skin tone range. As someone who is not... I have yet to find an exclusively physical sunscreen that does not leave some sort of white cast (even with foundation topped over it). Its not really an issue of not trying or giving up too easily...

@@cv3083 great comment. I'm medium to tan...hard to see in my photo. You are so right. My hubby is latin and lots darker than me but I test a lot on him too. Well it's my way of tricking him into wearing spf. Lol I prefer tinted ones on him. Some of the tinted physical spf's that look great on his darker skin are skinmedica essential defense tinted and Peter Thomas Roth max mineral tinted. Thanks!

I can rub Shaka Fluid from La Roche Posay up under my eyes, and on my eyelids. SPF 50 PPD 46. All chemicals, eye safe. LOVE this new formulation from La Roche Posay. If the FDA just gave up and threw sunscreen into cosmetic land, this Shaka Fluid would be available to us in the U.S. as cheaply as it is available in French pharmacies where it is called the "BUDGET SUNSCREEN". Shame on the FDA for throwing all the expense of testing + proof to L'Oreal/La Roche Posay. From their perspective, they must think we're third world. They make the best sunscreen in the world, but the U.S. bound formulations are loaded with Oxybenzone.

Graceful Beauty - I've been trying to find a mineral SPF that doesn't irritate my easily irritated eyes. Perhaps you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't have a sensitive eye issue. Are you able to put any mineral sunscreen around your eyes with no irritation? Is there one you could recommend I try, preferably something moisturizing. (I have fair skin, so I don't care if it's tinted.) Thank-you!
@GracefulBeautyWithSheri
@GracefulBeautyWithSheri 6 жыл бұрын
@@michellekelly2937 I have major issues with spf irritating my eyes...it sure can be frustrating finding the right one. Even some mineral spf's irritate my eyes. I am enjoying a few that don't irritate my eyes personally. Paula's choice new moisturizing glow spf is one I wear a lot and leaves a pretty glow, Skin Medica Essential Defense tinted and Peter Thomas Roth Max Mineral are 2 of my faves for dry skin and they are lightly tinted. I do sometimes like the Australian Gold spf that someone mentioned in one of the comments but I don't think you would like it with dry skin and/or sensitive skin. Unfortunately my faves are a little pricey, compared to some drugstore ones, but I try to buy when Dermstore has 20-25% off and ebates has 12% cash back. The SkinMedica one is probably my favorite when my skin feels dry and is irritated. I rub it all over over my eyelids and right up under my lashes and I never have irritation but of course check with your dr or dermatologist what's best for you. Hope you find one you love. 😘

YES younger and younger people are developing skin cancer! I wear sunscreen every day thanks to your videos but unfortunately at age 27 I have developed a lesion on the waterline of my eyelid from sun exposure. I now am seeing an opthamologist for treatment because it is malignant and growing!! I do wear sunglasses but some light gets in regardless and you can't put SPF on the waterline of eyelid. Anyways, let this be anecdotal confirmation of Dr. Dray's message that YOUNG PEOPLE can and do get skin cancer and it's important to do what we can to prevent sun damage at all stages of life. Stay safe and SPF'd!!

Isn't La Roche Posay always made in France? I thought the difference lies in the ingredients per country they try to sell. Don't know how the Canadian regulations for sunscreen are.

So many of the recommendations were more expensive and not available in drug stores. The white cast they left on my dark skin was terrible. The filter ban seems like a half hearted attempted at "we care for the environment." If they really cared, they could close off beaches to swimming, but since that would adversely effect them economically, as far as tourism, they are not taking that type of measure.

You are so admirable. Your honesty and loyalty to people to know the truth about skin care is so... Admirable. I find it outlandish for some people to not comprehend the importance of skin care and to wear the proper SPF. I lecture my family that our skin is our biggest organ and we should take care of it. To prevent cancer, sun spots, and premature aging. This is all facts and it blows my mind that some people ignore them. I'm hoping FDA revaluates ingredients in skin care products and makeup. I detest that makeup industry gets away with things that are known to cause more harm than good. Sad world we live in but people should at least hear the voices.

You are doing us a huge service with videos like this. Thanks! Side note- possible addition to your recommendations: Sun Bum Face 50. Fragrance-free and lightweight. Seems a relatively gentle chemical sunscreen and moderately inexpensive. I want to experiment with more aggressive uva blockers, but its good under makeup and was a lifesaver when I was breaking out and hot/humid in the summer. Was a good starter daily sunscreen for me

It's too bad the press almost always picks a negative or alarmist stance in order to attract attention to the detriment of the general public where there is a need for better sunscreen choices that make application less problematic and more appealing.. It's already such a challenge educating and convincing people to use it daily. Thank you for keeping us informed and hopeful about the outcome 😊❤

Can you do a video about formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers In skincare/shampoo, cleaning products and good products to use that are free of that plus fragrance free. I’m not sure that people realize that they could have a formaldehyde allergy and is maybe just passing it off to the fragrance or just their skin not reacting to that particular item. Me personally it is like a chemical burn smaller doses will make my face itchy and it’s very hard to find good products that don’t have this in them and are also without the fragrance

New subscriber here. I’ve been binge watching your videos for the last several days. I’ve learned so much. I have thrown out a lot of my facial scrubs, serums, & oils that were either bought or homemade. I’m even returning the Derma roller that I purchased but haven’t had the courage to use (thank goodness)! All thanks to you. I am now using several of the CeraVe products you have recommended, have a request put in to my Dr for tretinoin, and using sunscreen everyday. Now to teach my young adult daughter, teenage son, & my stubborn hubby about good & inexpensive skin care; CeraVe + sunscreen, at least 😉

Overall some positive moves, but it is frustrating that we in the USA are denied certain filters. My bread and butter sunscreens are zinc and titanium dioxide, but I am fair and my skin is fine with grease. I also use European and Asian sunscreens. I’m so grateful we can order them! I know that most people, if they use sunscreen, buy it at the grocery store or Walmart.

This is important information. Social media does get highjacked at times by hysterics . Keep the science coming. Recently I read a major influencer's blog that noted an interest in sunscreen inhibiting vitamin D. Honestly the sunscreens that leave a significant cast are just completely impractical, unless you’re sitting alone in your backyard. Even as a fair-skinned person I feel absolutely ridiculous walking around with a thick, noticeably white layer on my face, it’s really embarrassing. Sometimes I’ll think I rubbed my sunscreen in really well only to catch sight of myself in a mirror out in public and be totally shocked that I’ve been walking around looking like this, and I’ve never seen anyone with such a noticeable application of sunscreen on their face so I feel all the more embarrassed. But almost all sheer sunscreens sting the eyes really badly so right now I’m doing a mix, using the gentler white cast sunscreen around my eyes, and the sheer sunscreen for the rest of my face.

I spend more money each month on sunscreen than I do on skincare or makeup 😊 As a daily habit: mineral spf 50 on face, chemical SPF 50 on body, spray spf 50 to top-up during the day (keep it in the car) for exposed body parts, mineral powder spf 50 for face top-up, and my car windows have Lumar UV coating. In summer, if outside in the sun, I reapply the lotions too. As a result of this regime (at age 53): no brown spots, minimal photo aging, no skin cancer. Yay!

Dr. Dray, I have a tough question: I wear La Roche Posay Shaka Fluid every day. I just learned about a new Tinted Oil Foundation from Kosas. Seems like a godsend for my dry skin. But here's the thing: Mexoryl XL, Avobenzone + Tinosorb S are all OIL SOLUBLE. Should I forgo the Kosas Tinted Oil? They recommended using it with mineral sunscreen. But I really feel better wearing Shaka Fluid. Before I put anything else on I let it "set up" + dry. Do you think applying the Kosas on top of the Shaka will ruin my sun protection?

Thank you so much for this real explanation! I am at an age that the sun protection wasn’t really known or understood. I had dark hair, dark eyes and medium skin color and people always thought I would be fine in the sun. Wrong!! Every year as a young person when I was in the sun for very long I got a really bad sunburn. I have a lot of brown spots popping out now and that is sun damage and I use sunscreen each and everyday and I am checked all over every year. I just had a small place on my face that just wouldn’t heal and it was pre cancer so it got frozen. I find it very interesting that sunscreen that comes from overseas has a lot of pluses on it and I have discovered that means it has more and better protection than what we can purchase in the USA. Thanks for your info!

The one I saw recently used a phrase like "an equivalent spf of 15-20" which makes me think some of them are trying to be a little more cautious than flat out claiming an spf. It was followed with "and a little goes a long way", which makes me rage-y when people say that about sunscreen. The gobs of coconut oil and essential oils they make it out of also makes me shudder.
