New Features: The Sims 4 Wedding Stories Game Pack Livestream Summary

I was very skeptical of this pack since the speculations of it began. This stream and the summary really confirmed that this is not for me. It really should've been a romance pack instead of just weddings. Online dating, honeymoons, weddings planers/matchmakers to name a few features. Also this pack would've have been perfect for a town's fair with a ferris wheel, kissing booth, rigged carnival games, tunnel of love, etc. What we seem to get instead is another example of events that look pretty for screenshots but have very little gameplay.

I like how during the stream, one of the gurus said “let me see if I can get the sims to sit together over here....” Yes, let’s see if you can successfully get sims to do an extremely basic feature that came with the base game. I mean, you’d think something like that wouldn’t be an issue, but here we are.

And it didn't work! I cringed when she wanted the couple to sit next to eachother on the fountain, and they end up on opposite sides of the fountain. She forces him to change place, and he sits there for a few seconds, kissed her and then got up to sit next to a stranger to chat

That the livestream couldn't even avoid showing the bugs tells me all I needed to know. My money is staying in my pocket, sorry Sims team, you're good folks, but EA/Maxis must try harder.

@@cerenylmaz3497 There's a fairies and witches mod that is great! If you look up "fairy mod sims 4", you'll find it (it's on patreon but it's offered for free!) I have it in my game and it works great, and probably done a lot better than maxis/EA themselves can do at this rate 😒

What they gave us: a window to give sim roles that we'll have to manually choose either way, food, clothes and furniture, maybe slow dancing and a generic world that doesn't look special What we could've get: wedding planning career (just reuse house designer system), synergy with get to work dlc with baker career, synergy with get to work with a wedding shop where sims can try on dresses, copy a lot from the sims 3 generations (dancers on bach parties, home movies camera), add a whole divorce process, honeymoons... ... I know that this is just a game pack but weddings are something more than just parties and planning, this pack is as cheaply made as possible and will be bugged 100%, they should've give us just another 10000 kits and then release a full wedding or generations-like dlc

Also they should sit down and actually focus on fixing things instead of adding more fuel to the burning garbage that is bugs in sims 4, with each new pack they only add more bugs that make this game almost unplayable. like damn sims 3 is bugging a lot but I can actually play it for a couple generations while sims 4 drops frames on one family for no reasons. I see the pattern in these packs. Reuse - add a couple new functions to existing assets, throw in leftover assets not used in previous packs. Reduce - limit assets and functionality for "the player's computer enjoyment". Not because of a lack of coding. Lastly, Recycle - I think we've seen all the recycling in this pack. It's irritating that ALL of this stuff should be in the base game, except the world. Sitting is basic. Where's the "woo-hoo" honeymoon pack?

It's ceaselessly irritating to see the wedding cake & dress shops as.. wall vendors. Because the Retail & Restaurant features are separate pieces of DLC, ideas such as these can't develop. It's also salt in the wound, considering those packs are plagued, PLAGUED with bugs. Now, they're pitching a wedding pack? A situation where Sims are expected to enact a queue of activities? I'm still unable to convince my Sim to use the kitchen sink, as opposed to the upstairs bathroom, to wash plates!

exactly this. i got so tired of my sims washing dishes in the bathroom that now, whenever I move a family into a house, the very first thing I do is sell all the sinks and give them a trashcan to throw their dishes away instead :/

what I found is they in the sims 4 they always advertise every last feature in the livestreams - "you can draw in the sand!" in sims 3, they had so much content that they were able to leave the player to discover more post livestream

Thos basic animations just killed me. The sim wooshing their hand and the teapot appears while he is some distance away 😑 I was playing the sims 2 recently and just amazed at how they have proper animations for everything. Most objects that are interacted with have actual animations for their use. I was expecting them to actually be shown picking up the kettle and taking a stick to walk around and draw.... guess that's too much to ask when a game from almost 2 decades ago could do it.

Ok, so we did get some variety. The guru's said "It's so pretty" instead of "It looks so cool". I always say but what is there to do? And they said your sim could take a walk, even though there is not an option for sims to take a walk only go jogging. You did miss my favorite part, wherein they had to MANUALLY tell everyone to do their part of the wedding. My question is (and I think I don't really want the answer) what if the entire wedding party is not part of my household, how do I get them to do their part? To play their role. This really is for people who do stories. They gave a good backdrop for it and created roles for sims to play. The only good things I can see is that there IS a world we can move sims into and slow dancing.

I think they should incorporate the group action. For weddings I’ll have a sim grouped w/ wedding guests, and make the group sit to watch the ceremony or dance so they’re not acting out of pocket.

@@songsayswhat well, they TRIED to show how that works by directing the child using the mother. The action was "ask to walk down aisle" or something like that. But if they are not in your family and they decide something is more important at that time, then you'll be out of luck!

you make a good point about the art department being hands on deck and the coders seeming busy with something else. this pack is definitely filled with lots of nice aesthetics, lore, and customization options... but in terms of new solid gameplay it's lacking. there were also a lot of glitches and mishaps in the livestream alone. i wouldn't be surprised if they were dedicating more of their core gameplay resources towards sims 5

first off, just wanted to say that i really love your gameplay mod and all the little tweaks, keep up the great work! secondly, i was extremely excited for this pack, which is rare for me. but after that live stream, hoo boy. all the glitches and “it was working yesterday!” from the simgurus felt familiar, and curbed my enthusiasm a bit. seeing the bride hold the bouquet like a dang glass of water was hilarious and upsetting. and my gosh, the gurus really did seem to be allergic to highlighting the new features properly or even halfway focusing the dang camera to the right area! or even just making this pack look nice. if this had been a player livestream, i wouldn’t have been impressed lol. i really do wanna enjoy this and i hope with mods ( to even going to try this vanilla lol) it acts more smoothly. thanks again for the roundup carl! love your stuff.

Yeah I couldn't tell how much was bugs and how much was incompetence. They kept mentioning features and not showing them. The flower girl not going down (if that was like a niece you couldn't x out the interaction), the bride wandering off, and people not noticing the toast weren't great though- hope they fix it. I will likely wait a bit for bugs to be ironed out. It seems like they did do a lot of work for this, they just left out a lot of stuff and did a lot of telling not showing

this pack looks nice but in terms of gameplay there could've been more. attraction system, event planner career, online dating, death by heartbreak. sims 3 packs would be filled to the brim that you were left discovering new things each time you play.

Plus Sims 3 kept bringing in new things with each pack. I can't remember ANY reused animations in there. Even if one pack had a title like Ambitions it added MULTIPLE fleshed out careers, different outfits for all Sims, many objects, a world and a lot of gameplay. When they made Vampires I got excited because it added a lot of gameplay and objects for Vampires, as well as the world. Nowadays it just feels like their focus is on the world and to do as little as possible

I almost always plan weddings for my Sims, after much trial and error I literally learned how to make them happen without any issues and it's fun for me. I personally will get use out of this pack (probably will pick it up during a sale tho). Realistically there's not much in terms of wedding gameplay? Except a new menu, new titles for same old parties and couple of new animations? And you can't hold the WEDDING bouquet in both hands? Pay for the cake but not the clothes? Wedding dresses being super expensive is a part of the whole process. It lacks details as usual.

@@ayanaivory5472 Oh sure thing! I'd like to point out that my strategy is more oriented towards effectively doing things for a goaled wedding event, but it should be helpful either way. 1. I started out with building a wedding venue, usually go for the Park lot type and place everything required for a park in an inaccessible basement. I go for smaller building, so Sims don't stray too far. I have loads of decorations, little gardens and stuff outside, but never anything that can be interacted with, like a chess table or a bench. I make the ceremony area with a wedding arch and seating. The second area is where the reception happens. Got my stereo, dance floor, bar, tables for guests to hopefully sit and eat at and tables for food and the wedding cake. It'll be good to have at least 2 toilets, more is better. Absolutely no kitchen. Not even a hint. 2. My advice is not to hire a caterer or an entertainer, but ESPECIALLY the caterer. I have never had caterers work properly in any setting. Make all your food beforehand (including the wedding cake) or use the buffet table from luxury party stuff if you have that stuff pack. Making two meals yourself I think is cheaper, if money's an issue. 3. I do all my weddings in a community venue. My Sims and guests load there together, in close proximity with each other. Guests take a while to arrive and some never arrive on time if the wedding/party is held at home. Once we're loaded in, I make a group. Either one big group, or I divide guests somewhat equally between the spouses to be. When I'm going for the goals half of them can do having bar drinks and half of them can eat. 4. I always put food/cake out after the ceremony, so Sims have less incentive to wonder around aimlessly. 5. Before the ceremony, I tell the group to either go closer to the wedding arch together or tell them to "Sit together". Once a good chunk of guests are either sitting down or closer to the arch, I immediately start the ceremony. I feel like the arch has an area of effect and if Sims are too far away, they don't get the memo that the ceremony started, but this is just my assumption. This gives you a good chance for most of the guests to sit down and watch. It will never be all of them, but it will be most of them, if it's a lucky day 😂 After the ceremony it's all about "Call to meal" for them to eat and then "Dance together" for some fun. I'm less controlling during the reception. Since the venue is really a park, you always get random sims joining in, but the new base game wedding lot type should help with that. I am sorry for this huge essay 😂 It still takes a lot of micro-management, but it's definitely less infuriating once you do it a couple of times. I hope it helps a little! ❤️

What i would really like from the sims is the ability to remove things from the game i never use, without having to remove an entire game pack or expansion. Being able to keep what i like and remove/disable what i dont use would be good to help the game run smoother and have less stuff i have to scroll through. Itll never happen but itd be nice.

Thanks for the review, from what you have shown the game pack just looks like what a fleshed out complete base game should have had in the first place. Buildings being intractable rabbit holes, being able to walk around the world and interact with it and planning things in a calendar are all things that should have been base game. Its not to say I am not interested in the pack though, but it certainly doesn't feel like an exciting "game pack," instead it feels like a "its about time" base game patch. lol

Sucks because I love how you can choose what you want to do in the wedding, the world looks great, and I like the many options to decorate the cake, but the wedding itself looks so laggy!! Sims are just standing around and looking bored... Not to mention that the CAS looks very early Sims 4, there are dresses from Cottage Living, a pack about living modestly in a cottage, that I would rather use for lavish wedding than all of the white dresses that was shown so far. CAS is such an integral part for this pack because it's wedding and I want my sims to look gorgeous but looks like I'm just gonna use my CC dresses again :/

It would be nice to sew or knit your own wedding dress as well. I like the option to have a simple diy or a money-is-no-issue luxurious wedding for whatever way you play, but it doesn’t feel complete.

Glad I'm not the only person really disappointed in the CAS here. I thought the Modern Menswear Kit was a one off for bad CAS but this pack also has flat meshes and ugly textures. This genuinely looks like CC from over 5 years ago. I hate when clothes are just a solid colour with no texture, pattern, visual interest etc to them. It's especially disappointing when CAS is supposed to be a high point in this game. The Carnaval pack had an AMAZING top with 3D gems. Where was that effort for the wedding dresses here?

The livestream just made me more infuriated over the fact that we got this crappy, barebones pack over the original Love Life idea (that by theme alone was already fleshed out enough for a full GP) they proposed a couple years back via a survey. No, of course we had to get the smallest of crumbs possible, yet again. They clearly spent most of their time on the world. It makes me laugh how Paranormal, the last SP we got since the Kit-armageddon, has more new interactions and animations than this half-baked GP. The way they desperately tried to hype up the tea ceremony made me think we'll at least get new wedding traditions from around the globe, but nope!

I wish there were more opportunities for a wedding or spouse related parties/activities to go wrong, like if you were to order a cake to be made and brought to the wedding its the wrong cake, or thr cake could be dropped and ruined during transport, to the groom losing a wedding ring to the bride getting into a fight with the maid of honor. I'm hoping the pack turns out to be decent, goodness knows this is one of the few packs I DID ask for and I'd love to see it change how I do weddings in all my different saves. That livestream was as dry as unseasoned turkey and them not showing diff gameplay or making it look exciting is sad though, they REALLY should get content creators (AND PAY THEM OFC) to play these for these special streams so that way we can be entertained and also get a look at everything because devs aren't going to want to show it all in one go.

Am I the only one who thought the gameplay mucking up during the livestream was embarrassing? The AI in this game is so dumb. Guests don't show up, people ignore toasts and of course the guests leave their dishes on the floor.

I'm looking forward to the pack, but the one thing I really care most about is that currently we can't construct a guest list from both sims families. I was really hoping they'd provide a solution for that. But the world looks gorgeous and I will love to have a new vacation world (no my sims are not vacationing in NewCrest!). Great review Carl. I still prefer Sims2 weddings even though they lack structure, but things like NPCs who turn up will attend the wedding and will auto sit plus I loved the cutscenes.

I still don’t know why they went with wedding stories as the title when there doesn’t seem to be any story telling elements to this pack, especially when they’re attempting to try and add more “story mode” esq. features to the game. For example, they could’ve incorporated the base game system so that when a sim calls to ask you if they should get engaged, they would also invite you to the wedding. Though the event would be completely autonomous, it would be a good step in the right direction so that it feels like a story is being told. I think they should hire someone to do the live streams for them, because while the sim gurus designed the game, being able to present it is a whole different skill. I think they did their best, but they didn’t really showcase the potential of the pack and what it had to offer in the best way. As someone who does a lot of virtual presentations it’s not easy to engage and inform a virtual audience while also marketing a product. I’m still very excited to play this pack, but there’s also room for needed improvements,

Couple things. They don't want a story to be told, they want YOU to micromange to tell a story yourself. Which is really what their point of ts4 is, why they used to always say "I can't wait for the stories that people will tell with this." Second, if you've watched previous livestreams, they WERE enthusiastic and excited, just about the wrong things and everyone was upset. They were always talking about how cool things looked and instead of what the sims could actually DO. This time they said "It's so pretty" but no difference. Now, if they had incorporated the 'hike' option that is in the outdoors pack to, say, 'take a walk' then their little comment in response to people like me saying "but what can they do?" was "your sims can take a walk" would have made sense. So they are trying to respond to the things we criticize with some of their little comments and it doesn't come through, because they know darn well they are doing the exact same things they have been. Lastly, (though its really carrying through that second point there) many of us hearing their lackluster comments and thinking that they are sounding that way because they KNOW its got problems, they KNOW they didn't do anything different in regards to the world, they KNOW and are not enthusiastic themselves. So they should hire someone else to present that wouldn't really understand the game and would totally be faking it? No, at least let me read into it to know they at least feel bad about it.

I agree the Sim guru who spoke most of the time didn't sound enthusiastic at all, I did feel bad for her though. But the livestream was so bland and pretty disastrous in my opinion. I also agree they should either hire somebody else to do it or maybe even just not do it live 🤷‍♀️

Um yeah. The way the wedding went in the live stream was EXACTLY WHAT YOU'D EXPECT in a Sims 4 wedding. Sims not doing what they're told, running off randomly, showing up randomly, barely getting through it. I was just laughing by then. Head desk. I'll buy the pack eventually (on sale), because I want the world and I like some of the build/buy stuff. I don't have weddings often enough in my game to care about that, but I'm always up for a new, pretty world. I'll just bulldoze what I don't want, and carry on with my regularly scheduled game. I'm still playing (I just haven't updated my game because there is definitely no need to) and I have to heavily mod it AND come up with a storyline just to entertain myself. If I don't have a good story for myself, I will not play. Meanwhile, in TS3, I am doing a completionist run. Buy all the buildings in all the worlds, complete all skills and their challenges, max out all careers, get all degrees, explore all dungeons, complete all lifetime goals, and start from rags, all on one Sim. So much fun. No creativity needed and STILL more interesting things happen in that game organically (I've just recently discovered how much fun the fireman career is, having never tried it before) than they do in this game. It's clear this game is meant for pre-teens and such and not for people who enjoy complexity and depth.

Honestly, it IS a lot more in depth than base game weddings. It seems like it’s way more involved and customizable and needs more planning like an actual wedding, which makes it more of a lifetime event than essentially throwing a house party with wedding vows that the guests may or may not get to watch. It makes a bunch of wedding interactions that are usually left up to the player to imagine and made them into actual gameplay.

They can leave out the rabbit holes in my book. What really is the point of them anyway. I hated Sims 3 for that main reason, on top of many other reasons. I don't recall any rabbit holes in Sims 2 nor 1 for that matter. Now the village/ town areas, I guess are the new thing for them is awful leaving the packs that have things to do with interacting with other sims useless, unless you want to put, retail, cafes, restaurant, movie theaters, bars, nightclubs etc. on an isolated lots. No more of a street type area. Just stalls and a dresser dresses up as a building. Cheat and lazy on EA's part. Any one hoping that Sims 5 (if it will even happen) is going to be better is living in a dream world.

Carl coming through with the only review we need. This GP looks highly skippable, though I might pick it up when it's on sale since that would be a far fairer price. Though since it seems to just be a bunch of things we can already do with some buggy new interactions and a new world, maybe ten bucks is still too much. And to think, there hasn't been anything gameplay related released in the better part of a year--and, really, calling Dream Home Decorator gameplay is already a stretch--and this is still the best they can produce. Doesn't bode well for the rest of Sims 4's lifespan (not that there was any reason to be hopeful before this). Honestly, much more excited to see how Carl makes Dine Out suck less.

I am excited. I’m not Luis other stupid fools complaining everyday being ungrateful. The only thing I’m mad and complaining about is how SimsGuruRad was rude, she rushed things , she did not show enough like she suppose to . I really dont get the hype about this pack. It feels like it should just be an update? Marriage is already a normal part of the game, it was just broken and this attempts to fix it. As long as you have Get to Work, you CAN create wedding shops, fill them with cakes, flowers bouquets, and mannequins, and go to those instead of the stalls…You’re not limited to the stalls for any of that if you don’t want to use them. If you’re running the shops, you can bake the cakes (or just stock them) or make the bouquets with the flower arrangement table. You can even sell whatever furniture/decorations you want. It’s 100% going to be possible. I’m sure some stuff is going to be a free update, like they mentioned the wedding venue lot and a bunch of new base game swatches for CAS and objects. They didn’t talk about it because they were focusing on the pack.

I'm so mad they didn't add the dancers for the bach parties. But then again, the Sims 4 doesn't have a proper attraction system. In the Sims 3, the gender of the dancers depended on the host's sexuality. Like if your sim was a lesbian than a couple of lady strippers would show up.

After the trailer I got quite excited which is rare in terms of Sims 4. Watching your review my face went from "Ooo!" to "Ewww" very quickly. It seemed like during the slow dance the next interaction just canceled the dance like... Can't they keep dancing WHILE sharing a kiss? I won't get it now and just wait a bit longer and honestly? I'd rather get Journey to Batuu once again rather than this.

When I get a new world, the very first thing I do after loading it is to bulldoze everything. The default builds are usually bland and uninspiring. I can see the appeal of weddings for those playing the whole life of a sim but it's not something for me. Also, I guarantee a modder has or will do it better.

I’m speaking from the assumption that all of the features were working as the simguru intended. Man this pack is boring. Beautiful world but not much new things to do. They seriously advertised you can lounge and swim? This whole new area with a waterfall feature and that’s all you can do? And draw in the sand? Would have been nice to add some couple activities to do around town like a casino or a hotel or romantic restaurants or an amusement park. But it’s just a bland pack that adds wedding interaction which aren’t that exciting to begin with and a new world that highlights just how empty and set dressing filled the sims actually is.

They announced the lounging and swimming because it’s a question that ALWAYS comes up every time there’s a new world with a body of water. Also, let’s keep in mind that while they did show off the world, they didn’t explore it. They kept everything limited to what they were scripted to show in the livestream. We won’t know everything 100% for sure until the game is released

One thing I like about your videos is that it’s realistic. You don’t sugar coat and you made me laugh most of the video 😂. I usually play this game with high/full autonomy because I don’t like to always tell my sims what to do…like surprise me, ya know? So the idea of manually telling my sims to walk down the aisle, send the flower girl, as well as the other options I saw, is not ideal for me. We already have to manually tell our sims to get married in base game. If not, they won’t and it’ll be a lame party 😂 (I want to try a wedding now and see if they get married or not, I’m pretty sure they won’t though). All in all, I literally just want to click here and there and watch the wedding go down depending on the activities I chose for that specific wedding. I’m not a story teller simmer to this extreme. I will say that I’m definitely going to try it and see how it turns out. I’m actually pretty excited, no lie. The live stream did put a damper on it though 😂. Like….y’all boring or nah, do y’all care or nah, ya gonna put some pep in ya step or nah? 😂 Anyway thanks for the vid! Edit: so I put together two random sims and started a wedding event, I let it run until it was over and they stayed engaged at the end. 1. If you have Get to Work, you can build a store and sell cakes - there's your wedding cake option. 2. With just Base Game, you can build churches and garden venues for weddings, so that's that covered.

Interestingly, most of the wedding 'actions' are already in the base game, cutting cake together, feeding the cake to spouse, rng chance to smoosh cake into spouses face, etc etc and so on. I'm really only seeing a new world, new party types, new dance type, and a few build/buy items. It's just all meh. It's a shame that due to retail already being locked into Get To Work that we couldn't even have a one-off bridal retail shop instead of a rabbit hole, but even that tbh would be boring anyway. Even just a new CAS background that made CAS look like a bridal shop would have helped. Anyhoo, thanks for the brief appearance of the non-existent topless firemen for the "bach" party, I guess I'll just have to make me own - pretty much the norm for TS4 😐
