I know exactly where this is from! I have lived there for years now. I first moved to "the Hackney area" when I had just given up carp fishing for work related reasons and I used to see some proper nice carp along these stretches. I would see them between the boats, under the bridges, by the locks... I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody had 'em and I must say, I'm so pleased it's Alfie who did the business! Couldn't have happened to a nicer young chap.

ESP guys. I'm trying to get my head around rigs since this film with Alfie Russell. His simple rig, with a hair tied short off the eye, but left long, with a long piece of shrink tube kicker. How does this work on his baits (bottom baits I assume) I thought the idea with bottom baits was to have the hook bend heavy like Terry Hearn bottom bait rig? This looks more like a rig Tom Dove uses, can you bring some light to my thinking please, I I can understand it please?😎

So they key difference is likely that the baits Alfie is using have some buoyancy to them, with the top bait being a pop-up. Terry's bottom bait rig is usually just non-buoyant tiger nut or Boilie. This means the bait is heavy and drags the hook point down. With Alfies rig, a snowman rig, if the hair was right on the hook point then that is the wrong place making it lighter. Ultimately if the hook goes into the fishes mouth it is possible you hook it, but generally speaking, if the bait has buoyancy then the hair needs to NOT be trapped b the hook point, and is better further back. Hope this helps?

I think Tel's already hammered the Thames... He's certainly had the ones he was after in the stretches he fished. (apart from the big linear that died before he could meet it.) I agree the two of them together would be a good watch. Who knows what ESP will release on Christmas Eve?😉

I know exactly what you mean and I feel the same. I think the reason for it is that people have to be sold on something so quickly these days that trailers have to show "the money shot". I'm sure they would rather save the surprise but its a marketing thing. Still looking forward to this regardless!
