My best fish I've ever caught was a big perch. I was in awe truly. It was over the lea, fairly industrialised part but my local really. Remember using the biggest worm I've ever seen collected from my garden. I was convinced nothing big enough would take it, but I gave it a go anyway. It was afternoon, the river was quiet and few people about. Used a bob float which I since lost sadly. It's funny, as a bob float has a big surface area...so when it's under you know it's gotta be something worthy. When hooked I was sure it was a carp. In fact I had two attempts, and on the second time that bob skidded across and under to the far bank it was hooked. Unless you've had a really big perch you can't understand the experience. I guess it's probably cos all the ones you've ever caught, even the bigger ones are dwarfed by the biggy........that's the specimen you've dreamed of. That perch from that part of the river, which had been and is now, like a lot of waters under pressure from various factors including pollution. So for a large perch to survive is even more amazing. I wonder if any remain now..........I hope so....

Alfie They are some fantastic fish. Great to see them being caught. My local reservoir has some really big perch but being 100acres it can be a task to speci hunt them. If you ever fancy another river you do well on the Trent or Wye

Well done and thanks, everything seems to be Carp Carp with young anglers these days but catching a specimen Perch or Roach etc etc can be so rewarding. For many people their first fish was often a Perch, mine was, fantastic fish and a great clip.

What a cracking little video for several reasons ,a big perch is a stunning looking fish, the location urban canals and rivers, not some tucked away private water so available to anybody, then there is the angler Alfie, a young chap who obviously loves fishing and not just for carp and takes you through the video explaining things as it progresses, angling needs more exposure with people like Alfie who will appeal to youngsters to encourage them to try it for themselves.

Very nice again Alfie, shows what an all round angler you are. Really hope there is more to come. Don't worry about the knockers, most anglers would love a sponsor so they could fish more. Great video and editing nothing like a big Perch mate.

Quality fish and fishing. A big perch is the biggest of fish said the great Dick Walker. Nice to see you using a perch bobber, use them myself. Were you trotting livebaits or lobs? Gonna take some lobs on a trip to the Wye next week, aiming for barbel and chub but would love a quality Wye perch or roach.

Unlike most species you can catch specimen perch in a massive reservoir or a dew pond. As long as there's a steady supply of prey, the fish can be massive. Also, if you catch one big perch chances are there'll be more about.

Maybe they few n far between, don't forget pollution droughts pressure on our riverways etc etc, has put them in decline along with other fish.
