I received my endowment when I was in college. I participated in the Miss Utah USA beauty pageant. When we were all selecting our gowns, the other girls were very curious about what kind of gown I would choose. In the end, I didn't love the dress I chose, and I didn't win the pageant, but I stood up for what I believed in and I felt very good about my decision to wear the garment under it. My love for the Lord was more important to me than the approval of the world.

After hearing sister Pingree’s talk in 2003 or 2004 “Seeing the Promises Afar Off”, I decided that even though I thought at that time I wouldn’t receive my endowment in this life, I could dress and live my life as though I had. Happily I did receive my endowment in 09, and a ward member said to me she was so surprised to learn I wasn’t previously endowed because I always dressed modestly that she never knew I wasn’t. I considered that a great compliment. It is my privilege to wear these sacred garments that represent my Savior’s atoning sacrifice day and night.

The holy garment has always been extremely special and sacred to me. I always think of my grandfather. He was on hospice for 3 years with multiple times being told he wouldn't make it through the week and probably not even through the night before finally passing. One day, his nurse accidently placed the holy garment top on him backward. After that, every day, the first thing he would do after they would dress him was to feel for the marks. He couldn't hardly keep his eyes open and could barely speak, but you could see the importance of those covenants to him as he would reach for them and just hold and feel them for a minute.

My Temple garments have brought me physical protection. I rolled my car many years ago, thrown from car, landed in grassy center-median. My knee was broken (compression fx), gravel rash/cuts on my head, some fractured ribs/punctured lung (which healed after Priesthood blessing.) Multi-trauma, but, no internal organ injuries. I did miracously survive and heal. Garments protect! We'll need that protection in coming days!

When I was endowed (1977), there were only varying styles of one-piece garments. I entered the Army in 1977, and the uniform required a white, crew neck t shirt. The double layer top was not too bad in the winter, but during the summer, it got really warm. What a blessing it was when the church developed the military garment!!

Like anything I am taught in church - it’s one thing to learn something - it’s a whole different level when I Receive a witness from The Holy Ghost - because I am searching, living, pondering and praying to know His Will and finally gain a better understanding for myself. I don’t look at my Sacred Garments as clothing anymore. For 3 years I used a couple pairs of my garments for when I did pool therapy to learn how to walk on my own again. I knew that the chlorine water would ruin them but I also felt that Heavenly Father would understand. Wearing my garments underneath a man’s swimsuit trunks, and swim T-shirt - helped me to focus on the covenants that they represented - knowing that I was faithful to those covenants and that He loved me and was watching over me - helped me overcome the fears of slipping and drowning - as I did what I needed to. That was more than 15 years ago. Since then - I don’t think it’s a problem, hassle, or bother to need to find clothes that cover them. I’m not just covering my garments - I’m protecting my Covenants. Any Clothing or Opinions ( mine included) that would encourage me to do otherwise is not worth what My Savior means to me. I believe He was with me for those 3 years - especially - I never slipped once. He is still with me - because I hold what He gives me as more sacred than anything the world can offer me. Each person must seek their own testimony. Just make sure you are seeking the Truth from Our Heavenly Father. That includes what His Living Prophet has given us. Don’t avoid Him because you don’t want to align your will with His Will - I believe - with all my heart - that if I seek to follow others who support my own will - I will be held accountable. He is patient as I am learning - but He also knows the Moment I have learned something - not just with my own mind - but with my heart softening and opening up to What He Is giving me through The Holy Ghost. This goes for garments as well as any other doctrine or principle, He is trying to teach me. It is personal - between the person and God. Just one question to ask yourself - How can I gain a testimony of what God has given me - if I don’t put it into my daily practice and prayers?

"I’m not just covering my garments - I’m protecting my Covenants." I like that. "Each person must seek their own testimony." And this is also true. We don't get to stand as judges of another's testimony, valiance, or worthiness. I appreciate your testimony.

I was baptized at age 38, 33 years ago! I was advised by some very smart people to follow the Prophet. My patriarchal blessing tells me to follow the Prophets without hesitation or I will be in spiritual peril. So I immediately did not have a problem with word of wisdom, I’ve never turned down a calling and I wear my garments as directed in the temple. Seems to me that following the Prophet makes decisions easy! 😊

Im so grateful for my patriarchal blessing as I can see you are too. It has been spot on as I have watched it unfold right before my eyes. We are so blessed in the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. Beyond any other church. The blessings, privileges and miracles are beyond this world. The current churches of this world make life here on earth better but only the Lord's church will allow us to be with our heavenly parents again and our families throughout eternity. When Jesus was about to ascend to the Father He sent the Holy Spirit. Included in this is protection from our spiritual enemy. I recall nothing of His words commanding anyone to wear a special " garment" of clothing for spiritual protection. I went through the temple for the first time in 1983 and wore them faithfully. What changed my life spiritually came about when I recognized it is actually The Holy Spirit living in me because I trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior as I seek to follow Him in faith that I am spiritually protected, enlightened , and guided. I need not put my faith in an item of clothing as there is no need.

Making those covenants in the temple I found wearing my garments keeps me close to God even when I am getting caught up in life’s daily’s routine. I do not find it a challenge wearing them. I will not judge others, unless my calling was that of judge. I’ve worn the garment near 50 years - through all variations of it! The Lord has inspired leaders, through the decades, to make everything about the holy garment & temple work miraculously convenient! When we obey the Lord’s commandments and become perfect in it, as I have; in other words, meaning u love ❤️ the Lord’s ways (Isa 55.8,9) above all other ways of doing something. I would never think to do it any different than the Lord provides ! What an honor to wear the garment of the holy priesthood. I would sacrifice doing any activity if it meant removing the temple garment! I oughta write an article entitled “The apparel of Royalty vs little kids underpants !” How childish to opt for the stupidity & emptiness of Lucifer’s pedantic, insolent, & empty world vs the light & peace of Our Eternal Father’s guidance!

I’m so glad they are teaching this and emphasizing this now. I grew up in the church and have been married in the temple for over 50 years, and I have never heard this stuff before. The church didn’t teach it, and it wasn’t stressed at all. The garment was whatever they said in the temple with the markings and that’s all it meant so I appreciate this new meaning coming forth of the symbolism of it to Christ and the Veil and I wish that I would’ve known of it earlier. I just had my temple recommend renewed yesterday, so I heard this and was pleasantly surprised to hear this. Thanks for sharing

After coming from a life of being abused, I am still in a marriage where he does not believe in my church and has made negative remarks and jokes about the sacred garments. I will be 70yrs old this year and feel time running out for my life long desire to make it to the Temple, and All that it holds. I am sure I need to drop coffee as I get angry more than I should. Part of the anger is the years of abuse I have endured from "family ". This is the first discussion I have ever found where people actually discuss the sacred garments. Of which I've had plenty of questions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🌹❤️

You've had some very wonderful advice here! When I went through the temple 40 years ago there were no preperation classes explaining what was going to happen, or the information about any of it, that is out there now. I was young and went with and by faith. Getting married at the time was of bigger concern and I was quite nervous about that, excited but nervous... lol From the moment I recieved the garment I felt safe, warm, and protected. A real physical sensation that from my honeymoon to this day I feel as I, "restore it as soon as possible," after swimming, showering, and not having it on. I feel like because of the coventants I made and the garment I have worn my whole life. I have been protected from the "great and spacious building" or much of the influences of the world and it's thinking. I have had the opportunity of recieving important personal revelation when needed in my life, giving me the power and guidance of the Holy Ghost when "life's abuse" seemed to impossible to manage. I pray you will overcome, and seek the happiness and JOY that WILL COME with this decision. JOY is part of the temple experience, and I noticed it was mentioned quite a few times in this conference too!😊 Look for the positive! JOY is one of President Nelson's other talks, words, and promises, and the Father's. We can have it, no matter our surrounding circumstances, if we keep our covenants and stay positive, of this I testify!

Please be careful saying or thinking things like "I wouldn't be surprised if there's other issues you have with the doctrine..." or "what other things might you be doing wrong if you don't wear the garment faithfully?" We have to be mindful of judging before we understand. I know it's very easy to do, and I admit to feeling a sense of disappointment when people I love and respect falter in this thing, but we all have our own personal journeys of experience, faithfulness, and conversion, in everything. I'm just blessed it is easy for me because I learned early that it is important to me.

Here's what I struggle with. We're told to wear our garments "as instructed in the temple." However, I was instructed one time when I was first endowed 15 years ago. It's up to my own memory to remember what was said at that time. Since then I have come to find out that, for women, there are different memories or interpretations about how to wear them during menstruation and whether to wear them under or over the bra. These things are never addressed, so it has to be up to my own interpretation or personal revelation.

If you have any questions, you should ask your Bishop or you can ask the Temple matron if it's sensitive. They will be very happy to help and very clear. Personal revelation is not needed because Covent responsibilities and obligations regarding the endowment garment Covents are fixed. The revelation regarding thoes is received by those holding the keys of that stuardship. In this case, those priesthood keys are held by the first presidency and quorum of the twelve apostles. We can and should receive our own personal witness, of Temple endowment, and receiving the wearing of the temple garment.

I'm glad someone mentioned this. I always discuss this with my stake presidency. I don't wear the bottom half when menstruating because I have heavy periods with uterine fibroids. It's stressful. I use period underwear and I actually would love it if they came out with period garments, That would be amazing and solve my quandary. I'm always relieved when my period is over cause I can wear my far more comfy garments again. My mom always kept regular underwear for dr visits. Is that still a thing too? There was a letter in the past 15 years where they said women could wear the garment over their bras. For me it depends on the bra, some stay in place better under the garment but I usually am more comfortable with it over and I can wear my bras longer. I think our attitude is what matters the most. If we are looking for reasons not to wear it, that's a problem. If we are trying to respect it, even if we do something "wrong" we are rewarded for our efforts.

The distribution lady said it was because it is the most popular size to buy (at least where I am located) and some taller people buy them so they can wear shorter shorts, skirts, and dresses. I was nearly drowned in the Pacific Ocean twice and after that I always wore my garments when I swam in the ocean. I had a talk with my Bishop about it and his only advice was: “Just make sure they are not seen (my garments).” I think most bathing suits for women are not modest enough and I wore an outfit from Lands End meant to be worn to swim in; it was modest and covered my garments. Decades ago, a man and wife in my extended family were driving back home to Las Vegas from Utah and the brakes on their car went out and their car plunged off an incline and was totaled. But the couple had no injuries where their garments were though they had bruises and scrapes where they weren’t, but not life threatening. I had been swimming with my little sons and suddenly realized we were going to be late getting to an important appointment that would have consequences if we were late. But I took the time to run indoors to put on my garments. Then we dashed into the car. We were on the freeway when it was like a vast water tank in the sky overturned; it was hard to see ahead because so much rain was hitting windshields, and the cars around me were slip sliding as if there was oil on the road, but though there was a lot of traffic around my car, none hit my car and I realized there was like an unseen barrier (of angels?) around my car.

It’s more than just being hot and sweaty. It’s a medical nightmare. Different fabric options and styles with more airing options. A loose fitting nightgown to air things out? A slip instead of shorts? Can we have a tank top? Or do we need the shoulder covered? The markings are the important part to remember, right? How can we make this possible? Another reference that is on this topic is "Meeting Jesus in the House of the Lord | Allen D. Haynie | 2023" from BYU Speeches. Personally, I don't wear a wedding ring but show my symbol of my covenant to my husband with God by wearing garments. I treasure this protection much more than diamonds or gold or any other type of symbol. I have wondered, though, why so many of the competitive sports and performers in high school and college and professional levels more and more moving toward uniforms that are not modest enough for the garments to be worn is part of the attack we have had on our society. Even at the different BYU locations many of these competitive / performance teams that used to have clothing that would have covered our bodies even if wearing garments beneath are aligned to the popular uniforms. Many of the teens will join teams and practice a lot in these uniforms, and it is something I've seen shift even the common clothing people choose to wear before and after Temple covenants.

"Claim[ing] inspiration that's not in their lane." Spot on! Regarding the "flexibility" some members believe they have in wearing temple garments, it strikes me that those who have that attitude seriously do not understand that the initial temple activities are not simply preparatory steps to a temple marriage "as a social expectation". Each covenant made with Heavenly Father are standalone promises. I would caution someone doing that to read Revelation 3:16 - "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."

If you seek that revelation IN GOOD FAITH, and get an answer that doesn’t contradict the guidelines, I don’t believe you will suffer negative consequences. If you have the mindset to look for reasons to wear them instead of justifying reasons to remove them, then the reasons you prayerfully decide to remove them will be justified. Maybe you can look up the old hand book and that was the council given to all then . Empathizing to nog stay around after wards not wearing them but to shower and put them right back on . That what was taught then. So maybe some are confused ?? That there are certain sports and swimming and things other things where you do not nee. To where them . Even going to the doctor . Because of their sacredness . I don’t go to the doctor much but I would still wear them. I’m Not sure if the same advice is given now ?? I heard they make special ones for the army . The point is to wear your garments and keep your covenants too . The talk David Bednar gave about inviting to the wedding seems the one who came with out the wedding garmet was he wanted the blessings but openly rebelled . And the ones he invited were all too busy to find time to go . None of them wanted To go . It was not important to them . Worldly things came first . Good lessens.

It is not until mid to late October that we finally get bellow 100°F, maybe even below 90°F. To wear my garments is not somethibg that merits a complaint. Maybe if you have garments made of wool, but I get the ones that have mesh on the sides.

Given how the Church leaders have been trying to "step back" and allow us the opportunity to make correct choices ourselves, this clarification indicates that this is a serious issue. I'm sure the First Presidency doesn't like having to do this. It probably feels like a regression.

These things needed to be said and I love that you said it so boldly! Thank you for shedding light on the sneakiness of the adversary creeping into the lives of the saints and how it is causing so much rhetoric of justification and criticism of the garments and the reasons for them. I have loved my garments and felt comforted by them since I was first endowed in 1992! I'm sorry for those who are uncomfortable in them but it def may have something to do with the mindset Jared spoke of. Thank you for sharing this Jared!❤

The points on excuses to not wear it or the idea of modesty being a state of mind are examples of the philosopies of men mingled with scripture. The adversary is surreptitious and manipulative in nature and will try to carefully lead us from what has been taught by twisting what has been taught. "Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one--the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts." - C.S.. Lewis

I am glad that I have a tendency to be obedient. When I was a youth my skirts/dresses always came almost to my knees. And then long dresses became popular as well. Looking back this was during the time that Brady Bunch was new. Their dresses must have barely covered their bottoms! They must have had to stoop in an upright form to not expose their bottoms. And I did get a few comments about my longer skirts. And absolutely no halter tops etc. I did have very short shorts and sleeveless tops. I didn’t have too much to adjust to after going through the temple. Other than my short shorts. But I didn’t balk and I accepted it. Also, I forgot several times to wear my slip. Probably because I wasn’t used to the extra layer of the garments. I still wear slips, and know many women don’t. Not sure why. And I have never owned a bikini. I see pictures of my mom when she was younger and sometimes I am surprised by her clothes. But I am grateful she raised me to be faithful, and that I didn’t have a rebellious spirit. I think if we could “think celestial” we would all embrace this extra protection/reminder. I hope we don’t have to all get to the gates of Heaven before we trust Him and this gift we have now and don’t have to wait until the next phase of our journey.

My parents were in a car accident a week ago where their car and the RV they were pulling flipped and skidded on the highway. My mother got a bad bruise and glass in her scalp but that was it. She was discharged from the hospital the very next day. I firmly believe that their garments protected them from more serious injuries.

Why would anyone need to hear someone on KZbin tell them why they need to wear the garment, and go into detail about everything? No one who wants to hear the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ turns to the Salt Lake Tribune. Get your recommend, go back to the temple and listen to what is said and how they say it.

Wearing my garments has always been a blessing to me, especially since the death of my husband 44 years ago. Without them, I feel unprotected. I made sure that my doctor, when I moved to Meridian was LDS, so I feel no discomfort when I visit him. Those who choose to go without them are saying, at least I feel so that they are strong enough to protect themselves whatever may come. How arrogant!

With all due respect, there are times when it is appropriate not to wear the Garment. Not just the few things we know of already. For example, when it comes to health. Emergency situations of heat exhaustion or stroke, being taken to the Hospital, Birth, and/or women's health. I wear it as often as possible. I try not to sleep in them though due to individual ph-sensitivity. Unless I am working overnight with my clients, I do not wear mine when sleeping. Hygiene matters! This is what I believe it means when it comes to personal discernment. Knowing I will try to wear them as often as possible, within reason of health. Also! There ought to be incontenent garments to be considered. I have been a caregiver to many, late in their life who want their Garments so badly (as they should), and it is not practical or honoring the garments. There should be garments that are easier to access and avoid bodily fluids from ruining them.

Thanks for this. When I converted,I was very psycologically ill which added to my memory problems. I felt rushed and it's a blur to me. I was never really given an orientation about the garments as to their true meaning. I was told that I have to wear them except for... and that I could not alter them in any way. This has enlightened me so much! I love your videos but I cannot always grasp everything that you say and find it difficult to filter out unnecessary personal admonishions or sidetracks. To be honest, I still don't know whether we can 'not wear' our garments when swimming. I feel like I need to go through my endowment again just to find out what the "Instructions" are. I became a member at an older age without all the back ground of growing up LDS. I also fell that montorship of new converts is essential to good retention and orienting classes would be beneficial as well as refresher counsels.

As a 95 year old, having worn the priesthood garment since I was 25, I look back and can't number the close calls I had in life, especially when I became a dairy farmer at age 50. I knew it was the hand of our Lord giving me protection. It is hard for non believers to know of this especially when they deride the subject as magic underwear. Other faiths have their crusifixs, candles, prayer scarves, etc. It's ok with me whatever a person uses to draw closer to Our Savior.

People’s bodies are all different and some get heat stroke or heat exhaustion more easily than others. I feel that if people wear the garments as much as they can, without getting sick or killed from heat stroke, Heavenly Father will be pleased. He knows our limitations better than we do.

@@milobickmore1053 No, I’m commenting on the judgmental comments of others, not you, pertaining to those who, at times, have difficulty wearing the garments for totally logical, reasonable reasons. I wear my garments as instructed, and, I also get heat exhaustion very easily so I understand that it can be literally a health issue. I do miss out on activities during hot, humid weather, because this body literally cannot handle the layers and heat together. I have that choice, to skip activities, whereas plenty of others cannot avoid the heat due to work and other necessities. I have no doubt that wearing 2 layers can be lethal in extremely hot weather, especially if one does not have access to a/c.

I was struggling with my garments in the summer. I was "to hot" to wear garments, bra, shirt or little jacket and sundress. It was to much. I felt so hot. Then I went to do initiatories - 8 actually and it reminded me why I wear the garments. I had only done endowments repeatedly since endowed. This taught me a few things. 1) all the sacraments are important to do at least 1x a year. 2) when doubting or questioning why on anything - pray. Pray humbly. 3) General conference really does answer prayers. Since I've become a convert 2017 - each year I've prayed asking questions that have gotten answered. The biggest one was why are we called "Mormons" by people. Something about it didn't feel right. Well it took several years but our President answered that with changing - what we are called. The next big one was my garments and that got answered too. The power of prayer is so important. Don't lose yourself to the world - Jesus is coming and we will all be called home sooner than we realize. I hope this helped at least one person. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

I have been hospitalized and in rehab for almost a month twice. As soon as I could get out of bed which they always want you up and moving I put on my garments. It was not a problem. I even wear them to doctor visits and none has questioned my choice of underclothes. I have worn them to the gym because you can get gym clothes that cover your body. I look for ways I can always wear my garments. I made a promise to wear them and in return be blessed. I need all the blessings I can get.

I would wear what I could while in the hospital. If you are seriously I’ll, health care providers may need access to your body down to your skin in order to treat you properly . In an emergency situation, any clothing you are wearing would be removed by cutting it away from your body and may not be treated with the respect it needs. The Lord certainly understands that.

This topic causes a lot of pain, discomfort, not to mention guilt for me because of people who talk this way like it's so black and white. For some people, it's not. For me, it's a giant burden every. single. day. Jesus wants us to have JOY in our covenants and think that can look differently for different people.
