Just bought one this week, put about 300 rounds through right away before I took it home. Really really soft shooter, really really good looking. Good single action trigger, I’d say between a 1911 and sig single action which is pretty good being a pivoting trigger. IT IS NOT A HIGH POWER, and it wasn’t meant to be, and I’m fine with that. It ran totally reliable, which is what I expected. Only two “gripes” for lack of a better word. One, it’s heavy, really heavy, which has its merits, but maybe not so much as a carry gun. Two, the casting on the frame is a little crude, wish they would have smoothed it out before finishing it but it’s a solid piece. If you’re looking for a browning high power this is not the gun for you. If you’re looking for a high quality soft shooting reliable piece with a light nod to its origins you won’t be disappointed.

I have a clone PC35 HiPower. Updated, mag safety removed, trigger from BHSprings and a 2piece guide rod. It performs flawlessly. The new Hipower is too fat now. My Hipower is my carry gun, nice and flat and lighter than a 1911. The new one is nice but twice the money and less compact.

Seems interesting to say the least, the old models are extremely common here in Belgium (as you'd expect from the country of origin) and this modernized models seems like a nice retro-look successor. now, this might sound heretical but i would like to see one with rails and a red dot cut, it is 2022 after all... it's going to take a while before these would arrive here though, FN doesn't sell FN branded guns here anymore (would've like an FN-made 16A4 stlye AR but alas) so they have to be imported from the US in different ways.

I got mine for a little over 1000. It feels well built and frame to slide fit is tight. I think people are expecting too much out of this gun its supposed to be a throwback but with an updated locking mechanism. Sig did the same thing with the p210 standard and target.
@gameragodzilla2 жыл бұрын
I do feel like they went a little too half and half with it, though, especially in comparison to modernized 1911s. A 1911 with a double stack frame is still 80% compatible with aftermarket 1911 parts (the only unique parts are the frame, magazine, trigger, mag catch, and grips) and 1911s have been getting light rails, night sights, and now even milled slides for red dots for years now. FN throwing out all aftermarket support for the old Hi-Power while also not fully updating it to mount lights or red dots seems like a bit of a waste. Though I do think the updates are definitely an improvement over the original design, they should go further to fully modernize the gun. Hell, if they also make it compatible in other calibers, like, say, a .45ACP version that takes their FNX-45 15 round mags, it’d finally replace the 1911 as the premier metal framed, single action pistol.
@rudukai132 жыл бұрын
I quite like the concept of a modernized Hi Power. I’ll like it more when they release a Tactical model with optics mounting and full-length railed dustcover. Here’s what I don’t get though - why come out with this half-way updated model in the first place? If they wanted to attract purists and people who like the classic Hi Power, then making a completely new gun with all the design and mechanical changes makes it unappealing to that group, and if they wanted to attract modern practical shooters who might otherwise buy a modern striker-fired pistol then the lack of optics-ready solution and accessory rail makes it unappealing to those shooters. So who’s left? Either re-introduce the true classic Hi Power as they used to make it, or go all the way in updating the design and include the features modern shooters want like optics and accessory rail. Of course the answer is they release the basic bitch version first and let everybody who likes it buy that, then 9-12 months later release the Tactical version that has all the upgrades people actually want in a modernized pistol and make the impatient people buy another new gun from them. This is called FN’s “Fuck you, you’ll buy it anyway” business model. It worked wonders for them with the 509/509 Tactical pistols, so why not do it again?
@boomee782 жыл бұрын
you are assuming another version will be released? fn has said nothing. also when it came to the 509 series it started out the same but for multiple fn models they have not done what u said they kept it classy and familiar to the older version. if u want a 509 tac get one lol Also once u see the price tag many people will not want one if it would work

To me, it looks like it improves on the original on every front. Regarding optics mounting and accessory rail - I wouldn't be surprised if those get covered in a High Power Tactical in a year or two. And if you can't wait, it doesn't look too tricky for a gunsmith to pull either of those off.
@hivelsword2 жыл бұрын
I don't consider going from 32 to 40 ounces an improvement on every front. Not saying it's not a good gun. I love 1911's and they are heavy. But I'll stick with the original and EAA offers one with a rail and I'm sure they will beat FN with a model that has an optics cut.

I noticed classic Hi-Power magazine basepad is flush with bottom of grip whereas on the High Power, the 17 round mag protrudes slightly. I doubt it protrudes over 3/4 of an inch so will standard Hi Power mags work in the new High Power. Bringing back "vintage" or retro styling in product with modern internals is nothing new. Auto manufacturers have been doing it for quite some time. In the Hi Power, some upgrades were absolutely necessary - due to slide bite, middling trigger performance, magazine capacity, and to a lesser extent, ergonomics. So FN chose the route modern auto manufacturers chose instead of going the SA-35 way. For those people who wanted the old Hi Power back, there are alternatives. The only thing that puzzles (IMO) - and maybe we'll see it in future models - is the omission of the seemingly obligatory optics cut.

It is NOT a classic “Hi Power” to say the least. The fact that it’s not backwards compatible with traditional magazines was a very bad decision by FN. This new model is just too thick when compared to the classic design every H-Power user loved. The Girsan I hate to say it, is closer (not exact) to the original P35 design. The weight of the new Hi Power is terrible for concealed carry too, when compared to the classic P35. This new FN is just a bad dream Frankenstein gun. You’re right, it’s an evolution like a 2022 Camaro, but when everyone wishes they’d just bring back the original 1967 model.

I am torn… one day I like this, and the next I don’t. Not sure why. Maybe it’s the handle grips seem a bit too thick…. The grips look cheap as hell,too. Maybe that is my issue.

It looks like what FN has accomplished is making a single action Shadow 2 that you can't find magazines or holsters for, and probably isn't quite as good. The original Hi Power is sleek and right-sized. The new High Power is just a big, steel 9mm that offers no advantage over other big steel 9mm's, but costs more.

PS: Mec Gar has 13 round magazines too. SPRINGFIELD SA-35 & BROWNING HI-POWER 9MM 13-ROUND $31.70 $34.55

does anyone know what the purpose of having an opening at the front of the dust cover?
@harrycallahan97332 жыл бұрын
I think the new (plastic) guide rod is longer than the old metal rod, so when the slide is locked back, that rod needs to stick out the front, hence the hole :)

Is a beautiful re design of the iconic BHP, the internal extractor is a big no no for me, such a modern cut of the extraction port with a internal extractor in my opinion dont looks right and reliability wise external extractors are better, Browning MArkIII wins. The finish is no even close to the finish of a Browning, Browning wins . If you show me a 1967 Ford Mustang GT and a 2022 GT you keep the 2022 I take the authentic 1967, same here I take the Browning all day. Browning wins.

Could somebody explain please , why the front hole on the slide, around the barrel crown , have to be shaped oval like instead of round ? This looks awful even for cheap pistol despite this one is way over $1K . On 1911s there is a barrel guide bushing , fitted extremely precise to the barrel . Recently I bought CZaccushadow 2 ,where similar ( as on 1911s ) bushing guide is implemented , according to CZ for improved accuracy. Exactly this oval hole is what stopping me to buy this pistol . And I’m crazy about precisely shooting classic pistols as HiPowers, 1911s and CZs :)

1911s use a different action type. The oval permits the barrel to tilt as the slide moves rearward.

@@GBGuns thanks a lot for your explanation ! I suspected that, but was not sure .On SA 35 on the other hand ,probably the mechanism is if not the same , at least very similar , but there this hole is completely round and relatively tight fitted around the barrel crown , could it be oval from inside and round from outside of the slide end ?

The SA 35 mechanism is a bit different. This modern FN has changed the way the gun operates as you can see when I field strip it.
