New footage from China congress fuels questions about why Hu Jintao was hauled out

New footage from the Chinese Communist party congress shows a series of interactions related to a file held by Hu Jintao, before the former president was hauled out of the room.

Outgoing politburo member Li Zhanshu can be seen pulling a file away from Hu, before Xi Jinping signals to some aides and gives them lengthy instructions. They then turn to Hu, and holding him by his arms remove him from the hall. Chinese media have reported that Hu was taken out of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing because he was feeling unwell.
The incident came as Xi Jinping was confirmed as the leader of the party for a precedent-breaking third term. Xi replaced Hu as China's president in 2013.

The man is 95 and clearly confused. Anybody who has ever seen or taken care of a person with dementia will recognize what is going on here. That look in the old man's face and the way of talking and gesturing from the man next to him, like he is talking with a little kid. It is so very clear. Do you really have to do this? The “finalized” list shown to Hu was different to the actual list presented in the congress, Hu realized and wanted to see the list, Li Zhan shu (third highest political power) denied him doing it. Although Hu have no political power and health was declining for years, he is still one of the most respected person in China. If he was truly unwell… and escorted out due to consideration of his well-being, there would been reports on Chinese social media and news outlet regarding the issue. Unfortunately, there’s zero coverage. Jiang ze min unfortunately didn’t make to the congress this year, but I sincerely hope both Hu and Jiang have a long peaceful life.

(1) Xi asked the two men to pressure Hu to leave without first asking Hu if he wanted to leave or not (2) We can see in the video that Hu *did not* want to leave even after the aides came to pressure him to leave. (3) Hu tired hard to get the white paper out of the red folder but the guys around him just did not let him get it. Xi knew why Hu insist on getting the paper so he ordered to escort Hu out immediately to prevent Hu from continuing challenging him (4) Eventually Hu had to give up, but before he moved, he patted the shoulder of the Prime Minister Li Keqiang, who was just removed from the Central Committee, to express his sympathy, Li appeared to be moved and very grateful. Hu should be Ok, he will still be respected, but his influence on China’s politics will likely be reduced to none.

Li Keqiang was term limited, but the fact that he wasn’t kept in some other position is a big disappointment to the economy-focused factions within the party. Hu Jintao’s removal is especially shocking, as he has kept his promise to not meddle in the leadership of Xi Jinping despite Xi dismantling the collective leadership that Hu sought to strengthen. Hu Jintao may be old, but it’s incredibly heavy handed to have done this. Xi may have wanted to send a message that “the old days are gone, and the future is here” but I think it was a major miscalculation. Even with Xi having successfully removed all dissent from the central committee, dissatisfaction with Zero COVID, economic stagnation, and continued expansionist language towards Taiwan will undermine the popularity of the central government as lower level bureaucrats feel ignored.

watch the entire meeting and you will see, Hu was dazed, he could not continue, the guy that came for him his actually his family, u can tell because it was the same guy that enter the hall with him.
