Seems like a wasted effort from Google, years old chip skimped on usb ports , no info on codecs suport, storage and ram seems decent for the price. Single / Data power input forces to buy specialized usb hub, defeats the whole purpose of small form factor. I guess they blew all the budget in Dolby certifications and forgot user needs. Too bad that nVidia stopped caring about all the other products except their gpus.

Good video. Disappointing price point. Even with Black Friday, I’d bet it only goes on sale for $15 or $20 off. I’m sure its wifi connection is fine, but wifi 5 (AC) is inexcusable in 2024. I’m guessing many, if not the majority, stream using wifi like myself, unless you’re a gamer, which I’m not. The processor is old like you said. Makes no sense. It’s also embarrassing for a $100 streamer not to include an hdmi cable. I’m sticking with my ONN 4K Pro.

Damn man. I was waiting for this as I loved the features of the original but, it was always a bit lacking in power than kind of showed too often. It is disappointing to hear that they're using such an old chip. Honestly I'm kind of curious to see if they don't roll out an "ultra" model of this after a few months. mmmm just wait and see, also with the chip used. Maybe this gives the extra speed needed to overcome the flaws of the previous generation. I'm using 2 google chromecast 4K which are great but have some issues especially when a USB hub is connected which is only using usb 2.0 speeds. Hopefully with this new device the USB-C port has a higher connection speed when an usb-hub is attached.

I don't even remember how many TV streamers I have in the cabinet gathering dust from Ruku to Amazon Fire, Apple TV, several versions of Chromecast, and many others. None, so far, comes close to the Nvidia Shield Pro that I have, which is still connected to my home entertainment system. Yes, it is time to upgrade as it is falling behind in many aspects, but quality-wise (audio and visual) is unmatched. I was eager to read about the new Google streamer, and I am ready to spend $!00 on it but frankly, I am not too excited after knowing the specs and I very much doubt that it will replace my Nvidia Shield anytime soon.....However, let us not be too hasty.🙂

It probably won't beat Nvidia shield. Shield has so many audio and video codecs, fast performance, cloud gaming in 4k. I think that Goggles missed their chance and Shield will still be top 1. Someone may say about Apple TV, but you won't be able to install applications not from the store in Apple. That's why I think Nvidia is top tier

That 1 extra gig of ram isn't going to make much of a difference unless you plan on running more than 3 apps at any given time or do some encoding with it...but as far as streaming goes, which is in fact it's main purpose it's not going to be improve the quality of your stream much if at all... they just added to extra gig for marketing purposes and to make it $100...as it is, you're better off getting the onn pro...that at least has a full usb port, AND it's a google smart speaker...it also has a find remote feature, all for $50 less.

I believe anybody interested in buying a Google Tv set top box, would actually spend Apple Tv money, why google couldn’t put in a barebones Tensor G2 chipset into this device is beyond me, even more creatively I would not mind this device housed in a Nest Hub if google engineered a thin HDMI cable or wireless delivery to the TV or multiple TV’s - it’s time we’re given some next get tech, get us excited to buy a product.

It still looks like a bar of soap, just a bigger one. And, other than gigabit Ethernet, it seems to have nothing going for it. The vomit gray color does nothing for me. What exactly does Google have against black for devices? When I purchased an Nvidia Shield Pro about 2 years ago, I thought someone would release something better soon thereafter, but it hasn’t happened and it’s probably not going to for many years to come. I realize the Apple box is great but I am referring to boxes that allow side loading, installation of custom launchers, etc.

Not really. Chinese spyboxes even support wifi 6 and have double the storage and ram. I guess the certificates are good to have (cause of netflix and other apps to watch them with hdcp and in 4k) but it‘s not really worth the price with a old soc
