I shot a hog through the shoulder at 100yrd with a .270 and thought I missed because of no blood. We found it two days later 50yrds from the impact spot... An old timer told me that hogs are sometimes fatty enough that the hole will close up and it won't bleed,especially if its not through and through. I have taught myself to look for hair or signs of distress at the impact point and the area around it basically tracking the animal without blood. Its harder than blood trailing but worth the effort.

Daniel Breaux, I'v done the same thing with my bow.. It was a complete pass through, and no blood to be found except on the arrow.. Which i knew for a fact i hit him good, but there was no blood to be found on the ground, and it was because his fat layer closed right back up and didn't allow any blood to escape.. And when i cut him open, his entire body cavity was full of blood..

Don't go putting a stock on that pistol without getting a tax stamp, Don't want ol' LFG in trouble with the ATF. A 14" barrel is a bit strange for hunting, but hey man, what ever works!

Also looks like your shot was high. If your scope has mil dots practice a bit with those with targets that are closer and further away than what you have your pistol Zeroed at. Love the vids, glad to see you back in action. Keep it up!

Hey LFG I was wanting to interject an explanation for why you possibly missed your shot. So for .762 when you zero at 100 yards the ballistics show that your first crossover is around 25 yards, I.e. your bullet will hit exactly at where your sight is aimed. So in between the 25 and 100 the bullet rises a fair bit because of the need to hit on the target at 100 yards. This means if the boar was somewhere around the range of 60-70 yards away, you were at the utmost amount of rise possible, so aiming high shoulder could’ve made you go over the boar. Hope this helps! Love the content!

Wade Storie during the night it would be especially useful for hogs specifically. Hogs don’t have sweat glands and the only way they can cool off is by bathing in water or mud, so they’re bodies are really hot and can be easily spotted through a thermal scope.

Look at Radial Firearms. They're made here in Texas as well. I haven't shot it yet, but fit and finish are top notch. Primary Arms outta Houston carries quite a few, along with thousands of accessories. I'm not sponsored by anyone I referred to, only a disabled veteran without a lot of money that values quality at a price! I also try to keep it in the great republic!! Nice video, I subbed! I always do that for all the videos I watch. I'm always amazed at how few people actually click the like. I figure if they are going to the trouble to make and edit these videos the least I can do is give them a thumbs up. Only if I find something really, really objectionable would I ever thumb down a video and that almost never happens to anybody I'm actually subscribed to.

Heather D. On one hand, adding titles is one more step between you and finishing. And its usually done near the end - after excruciatingly hand-crafting every edit. BUT, in my opinion, it's a worthwhile effort. It puts you into the semi-pro (or higher) category. Videographers have GOT to put themselves in the viewer's shoes. Any "work" you can remove (like forcing a viewer to strain to hear) makes the vid experience more enjoyable. All that said, he's a remarkable filmmaker for someone who's apparently self-taught.

You’ve just experienced what all hog hunters experience, how unexplainably tough they are. You probably hit it. I shot a 250# boar with my 7mag earlier this season and found one small piece of meat and zero blood. I’ve had some fall and some run forever, it’s completely about shot placement. Keep at it Justin.

I built a 6.8 on an AR frame for hog hunting myself. Very effective round. Got cocky and went for a between the eyes shot at about 75 yds. Was about 1/2 inch high, took the entire top of his head off. If you hand load there are many options available, I like the 140 gr boattail. Also built a .300 Blackout that is a heavy hitter at closer ranges.

You should buy the maxim defense pdx in 7.62x39 or 300accblackout I think it would be a really good AR-15 style pistol for hunting i bought one but i havent hunted with it yet i got the 7.62x39 because i had a couple thousand sks rounds for deer hunting its really low recoil and it does a good job up to 100 yards with 5.5 inch barrel but i would get a 12 inch barrel for it

When you fired that shot I didn't hear the telltale bullet on meat thud. I've noticed that even when hunting when I was in high school you could hear that from a couple hundred yards or more away even from other hunters. That is definitely one sweet rifle. Good choice. Is that Leupold one of those that has installed dope for 6.8 or something else? I would get intimately familiar with the ballistics and trajectory of whatever ammunition you are using out of your rifle. Once you know that and are confident you can literally just Kentucky Windage shots if you have a good idea on the range.

No offense LFG but I am really surprised Rob let you buy a pistol for hunting. Something with a proper stock would be much better than that Sig brace for making a good ethical kill shot consistently. At least the ATF cleared up the part about shouldering the gun being legal. Good luck. Liked the video.

amorton94 you know Rob has that LWRC razorback in 6.8 and I really think that LFG wanted one so bad, a 6.8 I mean, that he would settle for the most cost effective way to get one. He did mention in the video he traded his .223 in for that gun. I can't tell from the video but it's probably a 13" barrel. Probably why he got such a so called good deal. They saw him coming...lol. And now without a tax stamp or barrel change he is kinda stuck. I hope I end up being way off base for LFG's sake and it is a wonderful weapon for him and he is super successful taking hogs and deer.
@michaelt6840
@michaelt6840 6 жыл бұрын
Pistols are fine, a few inches of barrel is whatever. Shouldering a brace is almost as good as a stock anyways so I don't see the problem with his choice in firearm. Hog hunting is not necessary a long range affair unless you make it that way and overall if it's accurate that's all the matters.

May want to try hollow points they open up better on impact and will leave more blood. I've had a problem with shooting deer with my 5.56 and only get tiny amounts of blood. I've switched to hollow points and now when I shoot a deer no matter where I always get tons of blood on the ground.

what do you think about the air powered arrow shooters for hunting hogs? i live in the city, and i have a coyote problem, so a good arrow shot with a crossbow is great, but that's a long reset time compared to some of the air shooters. the air rifles are loud enough that they might attract unwanted attention, but if it was shooting arrows, i think i could get away with a little more.

No so much bullet caliber as bullet selection and shot placement

Anglo Saxon it's not about being tactical. It's about exposure. Bolt actions use to be military guns, people saw it enough for it to be the normal today. Ar's are our modern military guns and need exposures that it's not made just to kill people. You can use it for sport and hunting animals. That's how we win the anti' s hearts. Make ar15 so common that it's normal.

Customize Everything He bought a legal pistol. Got a brace and what I'd say is a 12.5" barrel, the AR receiver is 7" and a Leupold VX6 1-6 is 11.2" for reference points.

I lose sleep because of hogs running off too... unfortunately it doesn’t matter what caliber or type of ammo you are using.. I’ve shot many hogs that didn’t leave a blood trail.. some of them are just runners.. don’t beat yourself up over the shot, I’m sure you hit him. You show me a guy that says that every hog they shoot drops right away...and I’ll show you a guy that hasn’t shot that many hogs... keep it up bud 👍🏻
