Interesting feedback. I'm having the exact reverse observation hahaha every upgraded smartshopping to Pmax Feed Only is a huge fail. But all my Pmax Feed Only from scratch are performing

My feed-only pMax is not scalable, whenever I see high ROAS I increase the spend and in a few days, I have to turn down the budget. On the other hand, pMax upgraded is spending well with profitable ROAS & actually, I'm spending $40k+ on upgraded pMax. John, your analysis is 100% correct.

What I learned here to never start with a Pmax campaign.

The smart shopping upgraded pmax feed only works, becouse its pure remarketing and it works like the old smart shopping, while the newly built pmax feed only doesen t work like the old smart shopping it goes after new audiences always, when you create asset groups there is a message about this In Performance Max campaigns, your ads will be shown to people beyond your selections to find new conversions, so somebody use 2 pmax campaign 1 is feed only and other is with no feed both will find new cold traffic audiences to get more conversions, so a lot of time this 2 campaign will bid against each other on the same products, audiences and the cost/conversion will go up non stop as the time goes on, and the top of this both campaign will be not efficient so both will die, becouse they can t find the right audiences.

@Tubesurfer777 Where is this checkbox in the campaign setting you can only check that to optimize for new customers so the campaign will bid higher for new customers, when you add a new audience signal to a asset group there is a warning that say ads will be shown to people beyond your selection, and performance max search audiences based on your google ads account past measured conversion, if there are no audience signals, but after it tested all audiences you added to the asset group audience signals it also target audiences based on your past measured conversion, this is why as times goes both pmax will die off, since both feed only pmax and pmax with asset groups will use the same account data to go after the right audiences so it will fight with each other, becouse they will bid to the same audiences most of the time, while the upgraded smart shopping use the old inventory and only focus on remarketing like it did in the past, and dont use the conversion data to find new audiences, if you dont add audience signals, i guess this difference is becouse google didn t want the advertisers to lose their high roas smart shopping campaigns data after forcing them to upgrade their smart to pmax.

You can't actually bid against yourself, as Google will only enter one bid into auction from your domain.
