Why so much smoke?

The Black smoke comes from overfueling the engine. Bigger turbo, and intercooler makes this tractor pull 3x more than it would standard. The insane white "1890 Style" smoke plumes comes from adding water directly into the intercooler, to enhance its effectiveness in this race condition.

Why is such a small load giving the tractor so much trouble to pull....and the smoke!. We have small trucks which would not show any visible smoke and would handle that load quite easily.
