Still have a couple plows, but rarely use them anymore. The last time we used a plow, IIRC, was after the drainage ditch had been dredged. Dad plowed the spoil that'd been deposited on the ditch bank, farther out into the field. Largely did that to help keep the ditch bank from getting that much more built up/ becoming higher yet in relation to the rest of the field. It's kind of a back up tractor now. We got started with NH tractors (all were/are MFWD) when we rented an 8870 one spring, to pull the field cultivator. It was a brand new tractor, and the Genesis line was only a year or two old at that time. I don't remember if the NH came first or second, but we'd also rented a JD 4760, brand new tractor at the time, again to pull the FC in the spring. Come the third spring, we had a new 8970, with SS front end,to pull the FC in the spring, and run the chisel in the fall. It also ran the NH3 applicator and was the last tractor that we row crop cultivated with. The 8970 also has done grain cart duty, pulled the disk, and pulled grain wagons to the bins and local grain elevators. It has a DuAl loader (710 model maybe?) on it as well. With the SuperSteer front end, it took a little time to get used to the way the loader moves when steering. Next NH was a used TG210, with SS front end. Its main job was pulling the Kinze 2600, 16/31 planter. It also pulled wagons, and did chiseling in the fall. The next NH was a T8030, w SS front end. This tractor started mainly on the field cultivator, and chiseling in the fall. When we upgraded to a Kinze 3600 planter, that needed a third set of SCVs to run the compressor for pneumatic down pressure, it became the planter tractor. The TG 210 only had 2 sets of SCV, and left the farm. It currently is the NH3 applicator tractor (15 knife Blue Jet, 3point mounted bar), and grain cart tractor. It has duals on both front and back axles. To replace the TG8030 as the main tillage tractor, we got a used TG305. It pulled the FC and chisel for several years. Now it pulls wagons (can get 1300 bushel on the one set we have), is the tractor that runs the JD CX15 batwing mower, and is pulling the Great Plains CT 8300-60 flex harrow to knock down the ridges from chiseling, in the spring. It may also get hitched to the disk, if we need it in the spring. The final, and newest to us, NH is the T8-360, purchased used. It runs the FC in the spring and a chisel in the fall. It also has duals on both axles.

Interesting thanjs for insight on why you use moldboard plows. We used a neighbor's 12 bottom DMI to put under pasture. They are rarely used up here in MN and ND because of the plow pan that is created. Just a lot more timely ways to till up ground. I worked for our local Water Resource District in MN and surveyed in this 6 foot of grass easement law, 6 feet from natural ground because farmers here have so much top soil they prefer to go get their top soil from the ditch bottom instead of using grassed waterways or erosion prevention methods. Banging survey stakes into some of the most valuable farm land in the world during planting always made me uneasy, but farmers were always helpful and would actually call before seeding so I could mark grass easement. That 6" from natural ground turned out to be 12-18" of grass. Such a waste of time, good intentions with bill language effectively castrated the whole thing

Fiat acquired Ford New Holland in 1991. Fiat was allowed to use the Ford name on tractors through 1996. The 1993 Genesis tractors said FORD and had the Ford oval logo although their sales literature only had the New Holland leaf logo. 1994 Genesis tractors had the FORD decal and the New Holland leaf logo. 1995 Genesis tractors had New Holland decals with FORD in small lettering below the NH name. 1996 Genesis tractors simply had New Holland decals. Lots of details for a future video on the history of New Holland.

The Cummins CDC engines were last used on the TG series of New Holland tractors built from 2002 to 2006. Starting in 2007 Case New Holland tractors went to IVECO engines. From 2007-2010 the tractor sales literature referred to T8000 engines a New Holland and MAGNUM engines as Case IH. In 2011 both New Holland and Case IH marketing starting listing the engines as FPT for Fiat Power Train.

The plow was always best used occasionally, as in plowing sod fields in a rotation before a few years of cropping in the pre fertilizer rotations. There's probably still a place for them used in rotation with high residue & cover crops; continuous plowing is a disaster for most soil & why they aren't used much.

@bigtractorpower8 ай бұрын
This field is being planted into potatoes. At the 5:25 min mark I show the potato planter running behind the plow. I am not sure what the fertilizer and lime requirements are for this crop. I know that the often apply dry fertilizer on the potatoes after they come up and it is cultivated in. They also may use fertilizer through an irrigation pivot to additionally help the plants.

Not a tractor guy. Why would you need 4/6 reverse speeds?
@davidkottman34407 ай бұрын
They kinda come for free as a function of how many forward gears & ranges are in the transmission. Some machines require running the tractor backwards, then one might need multiple reverse gears.
