Your journey took me back to my own recent experience of GBS and I thank God for your recovery. My case was quite severe so much so that I almost lost my life if not for the quick response of the doctors, they called me a miracle recovery because medically I was supposed to be long gone but "somehow"(through the saving grace of Jesus Christ) I made it through. I was on dialysis for a week or more. I started walking within a week. I recovered within three weeks and I was discharged from hospital. Every doctor that attended to me confessed that it could only be God. But as a believer I know that it was God through his Son Jesus Christ who saved and healed me, the secret cure for me was the grace of God(Rom 9:16) and prayers of my family and friends. I had Gillian Barre Twice. I knew the signs from my first episodes. I went to urgent care numerous times no one would believe me even a neurologist said you can’t have it twice. Eventually my health declined. The pain was horrific. I called the paramedics because I couldn’t walk. Turns out I was right. Not only did I have GBS this time I had an infection in my spine. Three weeks in ICU and fours weeks in rehab trying to gain my strength back. GBS is a horrible syndrome. 😢 for me I was exposed to individuals who had the flu who came to work severely sick. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This makes me think this syndrome is not autoimmune, it is a viral infection possibly caused by a herpes virus. Heroes virus are endemic in humans and they cause a host of illnesses. The varicella virus for example hides in the nerve sheats and can cause shingles which is very painful, there is some evidence that herpes virus also cause MS

You are one of the fortunate ones. My good friend Bill woke up paralyzed one day and spent almost one year at the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He never walked more than a dozen steps again. His leg pain was so intense that no drugs could help. He begged to have his legs amputated but they wouldn't. Four years after he came down with GBS he died, and to him death was a welcomed guest. He was convinced that a flu vaccine did him in. The miracle was that the Mayo Clinic picked up the multimillion dollar hospital tab, treating him as a patient for doctors' education on treating GBS. Doctors from around the country went to the Mayo to study Bill's disease and to some extent he was used as a test patient for new treatments. Sure miss the guy. I'm so glad that your story of GBS had a happy ending.

It took me 6 months to be able to walk. My fingers are now still haven’t recovered from gbs. I was paralyzed completely except for my feet and that was how I communicated for months. I felt so much in pain and so lonely back then, luckily my husband found a lot of gbs cases and kept encouraging me to keep fighting. You’re a warrior mama

I to was 26, in 1991 when I'm got it from mmr vaccine, when I was 8 mo pregnant with my daughter, exactly like you, 3 1/2 weeks after my daughter was born, she stopped breathing, and was gone 45 mins she remained in a vedgitive state for the rest of her life, 3 months after that happened to her I was hospitalized with g.b.s, I had paralysis full blown was itubated, ng.fed, and suffered a heart attack, I coded but they brought me back with the ambu bag.i remained in the hospital for 3months,seeing your story, is so close to mine, I have always wanted to write a boutique it. Why a vaccine at 26? Is it hat what caused GB? I would nit be surprised at all. God is bigger than the evil men do. He uses everything for His glory and our life story and total surrender to JC. I am also a survivor of Guillian Barre'. My story pretty much mimics Holly's. I was 56 when the condition hit me suddenly. The time frames on her condition are about the same as far as recovery. I stayed on a ventilator for about 2 months also before I was able to breathe, talk, and move a bit on my own. One of my greatest satisfactions was being able to drink something again instead of having nurse's feed me ice chips. I have now been out of hospital care for about 15 months, and can now, after a couple of setbacks, walk on a cane. The neauropathy in my feet is the only thing that keeps me from walking on my own. However, I can walk unassisted for short distances, even though I'm walking like Frankenstein. The recovery has been difficult as I was a former athlete, (baseball), and a professional wrestler. The point is that I was reduced to zero as far as strength just as Holly. I was not used to that and had to drop to a very low resistance; activity ;level, that was very foreign and almost embarrassing to me. The athletic background has helped me enormously however as it has given me the confidence and drive to keep improving. I am now 58 and everything seems to be coming back although not fast as Holly's. She was younger though. In closing, I hope this will help reassure Holly and perhaps inspire someone else who contracts the disease. It's been a long road.

My god... I was diagnosed with GBS.... it started when I had gotten over being sick, then woke up with pain in my legs. It paralyzed me for days. But thankfully I survived it.

Yesterday, I read the book! The whole book was absolutely amazing! She went through so much! But Her Mom, and James helped her, and she got through the worst time of her life!
