Excited to see the chicken coop. May I suggest that in the time you are thinking about how you want to manage the lumber on your property you could do a basic tree species inventory and specifically look for invasive or unwanted species that you can cull. Doing so will improve yield on your desired species regardless of how you use it

One of our pastors was an Industrial arts teacher who got into small scale drag racing. So he had a fairly well set up garage where the kids could come and work on their cars with his tools, hang out and learn skills and the word together. The loft area above the garage became the youth gathering place. His carpentry shop on the other side also got a lot of use too.

Having followed your channel for a while I am excited for you. Plenty of projects to keep you busy for yeeeears! (ha) I see an obvious beneficial shift for you right away...lumber! I agree, get a sawmill (or shed) up and running. Put as much $$ into it as you can. You will not regret it. Don't forget to have an area (preferably covered) to store your lumber. Devise a pulley rigging system to bring your logs up the hill. Oh, get those gutters cleaned out and covered!! Leaf guards will save you a ton of work and unnecessary dangerous roof climbing. That's a hot mess waiting to happen. Good luck to you all! I'll be watching. :) Go ARMY!

Let me first start off by saying it’s a good thing you’re a young man. You have A LOT of work ahead of you.. I’m glad that your going to be able to open your home for ministry, whether it’s youth ministry or Bible study ect. I also hope your going to be able to get some help select cutting your trees. My son in law has a wood mill and now he’s planning on getting a kiln to help dry his fresh cut wood. You have a lot of opportunity there and also a lot of challenges. The biggest challenge I see is the fact that there are so many hills. Your going to start walking funny because of those hills. J.K. Do you think you’ll be painting the house a different color? I wish you well in your endeavors, and may the Lord bless you in what you accomplish 💚🙃
@FLPhotoCatcher3 жыл бұрын
It's good that the house is higher than the last one, but, speaking from experience, the hills might start to be seen as a bit of a down side. But it's great that he wants to mill lumber. Sawmill videos do well, and with the price of lumber... I'd just advise, again speaking from experience, to get a better sawmill than a Harbor Fright one.

I'm looking forward to how you go about clearing some of the areas for farming and other uses. My wife and I go back and forth between if we want our next property to be more farmland or woods. Having a hard time wrapping my mind around clearing a fully wooded property although that would be the most ideal situation as you get to keep all the wood and make use of it.
@jawkeye3 жыл бұрын
Very nice, thanks for showing us your vision. I'm just excited to see all the projects you do in general. I also live in a similar house in the woods, so I feel like what you're going to be doing with your new house will be even more relevant than the farm you were on before. My all-electric house has power lines that go through the trees. So I've been interested in alternative ways of powering and heating the house for when the power goes out. I think it was your channel that I first encountered outdoor wood boilers, which I'm still trying to figure out if something like would make sense for me. But yeah, saw milling, using wood for heat, growing food, forest farming, maple syrup, home maintenance, improved efficiency, all topics I'm interested in =)

Love your show and wow the new place looks great. I don't know if as a standard it's rude to talk prices or to ask how much $$$ . I think a video on the cost of the farm vrs the hippie house would be a value for someone looking for that first homestead or just looking for change . Cost of each property ....monthly/ yearly cost difference , Bill's and maintenance compared.

most people that live the country life up grade, not many downgrade unless old age and the kids cant be bothered these days or financial problems, i guess your plan's for your market garden road side stand is history.. that you talked about for years. country farming never use raised beds, far to much hand work for very little gain. not a case i would ever make you gave up a huge space that is a dream for many, but it under understandable when financial problems hit.. or old age, that sure is a very thin wood lands there, here you cant even see the ground below witch gives the cows, heifers and steers great shelter in bad winter storms, they brake off all lower branches eating them, up high as they can reach. from the air you cant even see them.. but it like a park now from all the clearing the cows an pigs have done over many years. only problem the huge wild blue barres i use to have are mowed down to the ground every year before they are ready to pick. we call these kind of properties money pits. sad to see you had to give up what you had already ready, homes are added on to every day, dads home was added on to in 1969 from a 2 bed room he grew up in to a 6 bed room, to move because of a church, is even sad as churches close down all the time when they dont have enough people supporting it, in fact 3 have closed down in the past 6 years with in 15 miles of me.. when no money is handed into the basket, it cant operate.. that is there only income other then if they have a rental ball room space, one good thing is you have them deep valleys so logging off the timber, then bring in a D8 bull dozer to strip all the stumps off you can push them over the edge making more field space as i did, but that take a good pile of cash, but i made enough off the logging to cover that as well as bring in my hydro, drive way, drilled well, root cellar and water and power wires every were the berried stumps in the valleys gave me a lot more field area, just dont build over them.. in 30 years them areas may have dropped 4 inchs
