I have Ampero 1 and their amp simulation is crazy good. I did a lot of comparisons between it and other multi effects and I think apart from the really expensive systems like Kemper, Ampero has the most dynamic and open sounding simulations to the major amps. The acoustic simulation is also notches above other pedals. You can also do custom IR on cabs and there's a global EQ too. This is a crazy value.

Great video as always! Thanks. I wish processing power was one of the main items highlighted as that is always going to be the limiting factor for a more future proof device. I'll also add as both a digital and analog (amp/pedal) users, sometimes the multi-effects can give you analysis paralysis trying to match every song to a specific tone, opposed to having one amp and 1-2 drive pedals and making songs work within those confines. 98% of the time the listener doesn't know you weren't using the same amp as the original song used.. they just know clean and dirty sounds.

Great series and really dig John. I’m an old schooler trying to educate myself on this more digital approach. Thanks
@edwarduberbacher54282 жыл бұрын
you noted the difference in dynamics between the amp and digital unit. transformers are slow devices and tube amps are slow to react to transients introducing compression when the signal changes quickly and significant current is required quickly . solid state amps have less sag and this is one of the major differences in sound. The ampero 2 has a sag control in the power amp parameter section that can be changed. Perhaps you could try to see if increasing the ampero sag this would match the dynamics better. I have a digital unit without a sag control and achieve the same thing by making sure my compressor responds as quickly as possible to pick attack or other transients and effectively compresses the first few milliseconds...It sounds much more analog that way...same can be done with solid state amp.

The true beauty of these units is the compact form factor. Traditional tube amps may end up sounding better but come with the penalty of cost, weight and size. In the end you are comparing a product which costs £3-400 with one that costs £3-4000. For most players they don't gig, they don't need to blast huge volume but want to sound like the real thing when playing a wide variety of music. These modellers do that. One moment you can sound like Kurt Cobain and the next like Paul McCartney, or whoever. You could even line up separate patches for you favourite 100 songs knowing that you can come back to it repeatedly with the same settings. You can't do that with a traditional amp.

The Ampero II Stomp was simpler to dial in, not as high quality in some of the sims, but still sounds great and it has a more powerful powerful signal chain. More than good enough for my bedroom playing, especially at half the cost. I'm loving it so far. The only thing that I wish they kept from the first unit was the drum machine.

Thanks for this (very entertaining) video / i bought one and put pit on my pedalboard. I has a few features that really make this box run circles around other multi effects pedals. Besides amazing sounds and very very low noise - there were three features that pushed me over the edge. 1) easy to bypass in signal chain, as you would any effects pedal, 2) has a global setting to turn off amp modeling, cab IRs or both on all patches so you can plug directly into amp - HX stop and Tonex can’t do this btw, and 3) works great with my strymon power supply system which delivers 500ma at 9, 12, or 18 V. Manual says ampero needs 800ma but it works perfectly at 500ma and 18VDC!

This is a plus over the POD Go in my mind but I do love that POD Go. Also with the POD Go, are presets interchangeable with the software and the Helix plugin (which I have)?

You can go dual amp on a single input, yes. You can also use the two inputs to process two guitar simultaneously. I did that to jam with a friend and it was great. The amp can be totally silent that way with monitoring by headphones or speakers, so very home friendly. The switches on the Ampero were too confusing for me in practice, each button having multiple functions and colours to match. I was lost, tap dancing on the switches trying to loop, ending up in reverse mode somehow and I could not stop it. In the normal standing playing position the screen was too small to be seen easily.
