A brand new HPI Nitro RTR? Nice. The body and wheels look good too. Going with Force instead of Kingstar for the engine was a good choice. Although that cooling head almost looks kinda small. I want one!!

I’d definitely recommend using a heat gun for the initial break in and for first few starts after than go to the nitro head heaters.

I’ve had 5 savages over the years. Still my all time favorite basher. Sad to see them go as I was upgrading my rc fleet. All I can say with any of the nitro versions is blue thread locker is your friend. Tear the truck down out of the box and verify all metal to metal is thread locked. Not as much of an issue on the flux but the 5.9 and octane vibrate bolts loose.

It looks like they still haven't fixed that after 20 years............??!?!!?!?! The half tank lean really ruined my fun with the truck.

I also have the ss kit bought new in 03. They made a replacement fuel tank without the primer which cured the problem. I'm sorry I don't know the part number, but it did fix the problem. St least on my truck!

hey dude! the HPI website now says this truck comes with "bulletproof differentials", it seems like they have been upgraded. Usually that is the term they use for their HD upgraded gears from a while ago. I know for a fact the trans gears are updated, so it makes sense the diffs would be too! @@hybrid32494 the original savage xl octane was the better version. It had a battery to run the ignition module and a separate battery to run the rest of the electrics servo ECT. The second gen savage xl octane only had one battery to run everything. I also got the 2 cell lipos from the gas powered losi for the savage xl octane instead of running the hump packs they original came with.

Hey man, from my understanding i though there was very minimal slop in the steering. Also the older savage does have some slop, but once you’re accelerating and hitting the 3-speed you dont even notice and the truck dtives straight.

@@hybrid32494 Thanks for your reply. Because of this, I crashed my old XL into a car on the side of the road, lower A arms snapped, I am waiting for a replacements from Jenny RC. I will also be taking out the plastic bushings from the steering bellcrank and replacing them with bearings, this should minimize the slop. Thank you for posting the video and keep up the good work. Love watching your videos. I do think that old Savage XL body looks better, at least to me.

I mean, this truck is okay but the servos are slow, Kevin talbot have a problem with this truck getting the rear diff unscrewed and tinkering with it, not saying the truck isn’t good but HPI sometimes kind of cheap out on certain parts though and the servos which are a downgrade when they are pretty slow but it’s okay, like the truck but the problem is the features that are kind of a downgrade, wouldn’t buy this for my kid, I would buy another but upgrade it and give it to my kid, the truck is good and probably worth it, it’s just that they sometimes cheap out on some features of this truck…

Please wait before buying until HPI addresses the issues. Transmission gears stripped doing 1/2 throttle blips during 4th tank, im not the only one with gears stripping...way too much gear grease inside the transmission..screws are poor quality they strip easy, red thread lock was used instead of blue..servos are weak, 8kg for steering really?

hey dude! Yes, the USA and the rest of the world has access to different fuels. But in reality it just comes down to nitro and oil content. All the raw components are otherwise very similar if not identical anyway.
