Insta360 has a definite lineup at this point. Ace Series - Pure Action Camera X Series - Action 360 camera R Series - Modular camera / both action and 360 X series has an annual release date. The Ace series was just released this year. The R series release date was way back 2 years ago! This has to be and definitely the R2 line-up. R2 R2 360 8K R2 1-inch 360 8K

It really is about the specs. Is it 10-bit color? 4-2-0 color space or 4-2-2 color space? Did they bring back h.265 for better image quality during fast movement or are people stuck with h.264 again? (Or does it use prores?) Does it have a 1" sensor and if so, does it use pixel binning? Ae the batteries interchangable with the X3? What color profiles are available and is the bitrate high enough with the codec that was chosen? 8K is great and the rumoured leaked specs are interesting, but to anyone seriously considering a new 360 camera, the information that isn't out there what will make it break it for them.

I wouldn't say that. Just the equivalent of what my Air 2S offers for video options in a 360 package with 8K and a higher bitrate to support those extra pixels. The Air 2S *definitely* doesn't fall under the pro category and was released years ago. So I don't think it's asking too much to get a similar offering in the world of 360 cameras for consumer cams.

@@SpokesAndScenery for drones those specs are normal. For 360, even some cameras that cost $5k don’t have 10 bit. The last time there was a 10 bit camera was qoocam 8k. But in any case I will show comparisons so you can draw your own conclusions about whether it meets your needs.

Sounds good and looking forward to it! My biggest hope is to see h.265 make a return with a high bitrate. Losing h.265 with the X3 compared to the X2 was a huge loss. I'm more interested in knowing what bitrates are available under different resolutions and what codec the new camera uses. That's really what'll sell me the most on the camera, even over 8K resolution. If it's 8K using h.264 at say... Let me pick a random number here. 200Mbps sounds like a nice round number, so let's go with that. If it was 200Mbps using h.264 then the image quality would be lower than the X3 at 150Mbps. So you really need a more efficient codec, which is why I'm *really* hoping to see h.265 back again after being MIA for a generation of cameras in the X lineup. 10-bit color I can take or leave. It's nice to have the extra leaway when grading footage, but after you upload it online, most of the work you did is thrown out by recompression anyway.

What kinds of shots do you expect to take? I’ve never been to Africa. If you take mostly telephoto shots then I suggest just a mirrorless camera or a phone. They will be more detailed than a 360 camera. On the other hand if you will be taking photos of environments then 360 will be more immersive. Ace pro is more of an action cam like if you are going rock climbing or something and you want a durable camera.

I have one x and x3. Both overheats while transfering and recording. The one x is my work horse and recently not functioning when mounted to motorcycle for straight 2months. Probably thre vibration. While x3 is for my travelling, walking and swimming. Hopefully the x4 will have better brightness and enhance those issues.

I glad I've held out with the 1" 360. I still use my Qoocam 8 and have been waiting for the ultra. But Insta 8k paired with the best software could be a gamechanger. From the photo, it looks like the lens will flush and smooth and possibly be meant for action and waterproof. No more babysitting the cam worrying about scratching the lens.

The lens cannot be flush, it has to stick out so you can have a 360 view, so you still will need to worry about scratching it forever because it cant see through itself. That never will change. It will probably look the same as the x3.

There's no doubt the shadows resemble the X series more than the RS series. My concern is that the RS 1" was $700+. So I cant see them selling a 1" version of the X series, making it 8K, improving frame rate, and selling it under the RS 1". That would immediately make the RS 1" obsolete. This is what I think, and I'd take it. I think its an X series camera with either the same size sensor as the X3 or only slightly larger, more framerate options, priced at $499 USD. And the reason I dont think its a 1" sensor is because they werent pushing any low light narrative in the teaser. They pushed 8k and better framerate but not low light.

They've needed this product for a WHILE. They need a 360 camera that can output 4K video... but the sensor limits have previously prevented them from doing that. The 6K sensor only netted a 1080p output. If this is what I think this is, then its two 8K sensors back to back that allow true 4K videos to be created. It SHOULD be the new X4 with the glass from the 1RS One Inch. The X3 really suffered in low light, so hopefully this new sensor can transition from 8K to 4k with pixel-binning to improve low light performance. Either way, the ENTIRE 360 industry hasn't taken full advantage of what this technology is truly capable of, so Insta360 has a big opportunity here. Give me bigger glass, bigger, better sensors so I can get GOOD 4K footage, and all other cameras are obsolete!

That sensor is listed at 7680x7320 (for a single sensor) and you need two of them for 360 video shooting... so it seems to make sense? It would be a new version of the 1RS One Inch, with more resolution and dynamic range...?

The sensors are generally not the problem, it's the rest of the data flow. For example, SD cards that could handle 2x 8k cameras would be extremely expensive and really don't exist. Also, another main issue has been the processor being unable to handle that much video and this has impacted other things like dashcams with multiple cameras. This will be 8k total, so possibly two 5.7k cameras with overlap.

I seriously doubt they are putting massive glass on the x4. If they only have an x4 small sensor 8k and drop the higher end model, that will really suck. Hopefully they update both lines and the x4 would still look pretty much the same. There is a fairly big difference between the x3 and the bigger one inch now. Bumping up the x4 to 8k first is an obvious next step, but the quality may still not beat the lower pixel one inch camera. That comparison will be interesting. It would be great to see both lines get updated, but I think x4 will be first as its the most affordable one. I think the issue with the current one incher is the cpu isnt enough. It has the most problems with video compression for sure as stills are much cleaner. With the one incher, you can see the entire image pulse like every second as it looks like its resetting the color palette or something. 4k reframe will pretty much look weak even with an 8k sensor. It will improve, but there is nothing like a gopro type field of view. 4k per 180 degree field of view is still barely any pixels per degree compared to a gopro. So, you cannot get the quality of a gopro even with a perfect 8k solution shooting 180 degrees wide. There simply are not enough pixels. A gopro for example has 4 times the pixel density of the current x3 by degrees. Its because you have the x and y axis. You would need a 16k image to match the pixel density, and we are not remotely near that being possible. So, reframe is going to improve, but still wont replace the need for a gopro when you know where you want to point it. Its all good, but you have to be realistic. Also, its still a tiny sensor. The one inch sensor is where you really get the quality.

Qoocam3 Pro is around the corner (sort-of) too which supposedly has some exciting specs too, TBA. Looking forward to the release, and Actually (!) seeing real 360 8K footage on YT that I can look at without getting an eye spasm!

Does it stop recording or it just feels hot? Feeling hot is normal for 360 cameras because of the intense processing required (two sensors recording at the same time while also showing a preview). Also I strongly recommend getting a fast micro SD card such as the Sandisk Extreme Pro (red and black), Insta360 brand. Amazon micro SD also seems to be fast enough.

In 5.3K 360 mode it sometimes stops recording due to overheating.. it can make it to 29m but often it's just 15-20m before it shuts down. I'm using a 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO U3/UHS-I/V30 formatted inside the X3 so I doubt it's memory card related I'm using it as a backup angle for live music.. so it's not getting any natural cooling by flying through the air attached to a bike or such. So lately I just activate the front cam when using it for that purpose. I've got a friend who also has an X3 and used it fixed on a static pole a few times to record 360 video of a gig, and had to point a fan at the camera to stop it from overheating

The shadows you get around 0:19 etc clearly show a One Xx profile. The tiny planets shown mean it's capable of 360. So I vote for a One X4, at 8K. And yes, I'll buy that.

One look at the ACE Pro and it's obvious that a camera with two of this sensors will allow at least 8k resolution for 360° recordings, very high quality for an action cam and and self-mode, higher recording speeds and who knows what else. I'm still using the X2 and this looks like the step that makes me buy it first thing in morning.

Well we know it is a 🌐360° camera because of the 'Tiny Planet' shot in the PROMO video clip. And from the PROMO video, we know it is "8K", "More Pixels", "More Frames". (but no talk of pixel size [i.e. sensor size]) The promo with the still picture "New Moon" sort of implies low light capability, therefore LARGE sensor with LARGE pixels and large $999 price $599, If it is priced between X3 & RS One 1-inch, then it is likely a lame 8K (unless they also radically drop the RS One 1-inch below the new 8K) $599 if it is a marketing ploy and is tiny sensor with MORE tiny pixels, and "More Frames" = 120p at 4k, 60p at 6K and 30p at 8K; then maybe I will only buy one and then wait for the QooCam Ultra $999, If it is a better quality output camera than the RS One 1-inch (and the X3 and RS 1-inch prices stay about the same, then the new 8K will be about $999. $999 will be a good price for me as long as the specs far exceed the RS 1-inch. $999, if it is 8K (7680 x 3840), 60p (at 8k), 1.06 to 1.12 inch sensors (~4192x~4192 each, or higher) --- I will buy two ASAP $1999 (haha) if it is 8k with 1.3 inch ("square" ~micro 4/3) dual sensors (haha) The only unknown is the sensor/pixel size. An 8K 360 camera with a sensor smaller than the 6k RS One 1-inch 360 Edition would be a bad move (i.e. it would just be like an 1/1.7"-Type CMOS QooCam 8k Enterprise, which I love but sensor is just a bit small for sharpness)

Re laptop i suggest gtx 750 ti (or equivalent) as minimum. If you have a vr ready graphics card then even better. Re memory card, I recommend Sandisk extreme pro (red and black) or sandisk extreme (red and gold) or insta360 brand or Amazon brand.

I have the x3 and the bigger one inch. I really want a one inch sensor for 8k, not tiny pixels on a tiny sensor. I assume the x4 will be 8k, but the real step forward would be updating the bigger one. If its just an x4, I am going to skip it. The comparisons to the existing one inch 360 they have will be interesting. It may still not be better than the bigger camera. I hope they update that one also and ditch the modular concept.

One more thing, the fast edits for that trailer (and other videos they often post) really drive me nuts. They tend to move so quickly you can't really see what they are shooting, it is too gimmicky, don't really seem to have any real focus or purpose-like a story line, you can't really appreciate the quality when the edits are so short, and they ought to come with a warning that the video might induce seizures. It can be quite maddening. I always have to end with the fact that I am not hating the company or products because I now own 9 of their cameras. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Nobody has replaceable 360 lenses. Pretty much action cameras dont do that either. Its because aligning the lens is very precise. This is why the smallest interchangeable camera is a micro 4/3 basically. Which is much larger than a one inch sensor even. You will be on that fence for a very very long time. I mean, I have changed gopro lenses to different focal lengths many times, but its no fun. You just cannot make a lens mount that would be that precise and still be waterproof and all. Plus, there is no market for that. The cost to revenue would never be doable. 8k easily will be everywhere tho.
