I saw “New Jeep Project” and yawned. Then I saw 1957 CJ5... you have my attention. Vintage jeeps rock. Not as much as GM square bodies, but close enough.

If you look at the side of your engine where the PCV is. There is a T brass fitting. At the split one side goes to the intake manifold under the head and the other side goes to the vacuum assist on the fuel pump. You can either cap the vacuum port on fuel pump (one closest to the engine) or run an L-fitting to eliminate the vacuum assist if you aren't planning on running the original system the fitting size is a 3/8-24 line nut thread. I can see that you aren't running the fuel pump anyway and running an electric fuel pump. I would just run the L fitting and make a block-off plate out of 1/4 aluminum for the fuel pump on the block. The way the engine is missing sounds like there may be a vacuum leak. Just dealt with this on my CJ-5.

Looking forward to this project. I am thinking really hard about getting a CJ or MJ aftermarket body and sticking it on a 2wd long bed c10 frame I’m going to have after I strip my dads truck to build my 83 c10 step side like your 78. The keep would be a low to the ground rat rod style but painted nicely.

It has an alternator on it. I wouldn’t say it was necessarily converted. Needs to be addressed to say the least...
