Farming has changed so much over the years, but is it a good thing?
@TheMark312803 жыл бұрын
It’s a great thing… if you have the $$$ What scares me is too many people who cash rent. To own this equipment you need a lot of acres. Most farmers don’t own these acres that they farm. The slightest mismanagement or bad season can crumble an operation now. And before it feels like I’m contradicting that “it’s a great thing” - I said that because I’ve put a 16 hour day in a JD8335 MFWD working ground and the comfort level is just amazing. I remember back in 1995 chopping corn stalks with a 4440 and a batwing chopper and as a teenager already feeling it in my back after 6 hours. These new machines are amazing. Comfort level is beyond amazing. The technology to smart farm (stop over planting, over spraying, wasting time over working ground due to GPS) is amazing. But also at a hefty cost

So many screens to set the tractor I would be lost before I started. I would rather have a 60 series then the 9RX.

@good_deeds_always_get_punished3 жыл бұрын
Have say that this machine is fantastic. However, this has so much automation, the farmer will never own the tractor. The day is not far when JD might remotely kill your machine because you didn't use JD approved wheel lug. And, a touch screen radio for a job with dirty hands/gloves? Wow.

LOL, was running a JD 750 dozer in Massachusetts back around 2015,16 and as I would be going down a incline I went fast . Well I didn't know that their ...technology.... didn't keep the engine from over revving as there was no gauge with a redline. The dozer would actually contact the JD company all by itself and my office would give me a phone call and chew me out.

The machine is cool. I just wonder if John Deere is going to lighten up on their repair bans. Farmers should be able to repair their own tractors if they choose to. Not everyone has the funds to pay for a tech to come fix something when it inevitably breaks after the warranty is up. Parts, repair manuals, and tools should be readily available. They also shouldn't be so encrypted and computerized that you need special training just to work on them.
@johnpowers11253 жыл бұрын
The only thing Deere doesn’t let others mess with is computer software. You can still work on everything else just like before.
@jonjacob19623 жыл бұрын
@@johnpowers1125 except most of the machine is now controlled by that computer software. Sure. You can replace parts yourself if something breaks. But just like if you replace the screen on your iphone. The phone will turn on. You'll just loose your ability to use faceID. The front camera won't work properly. Neither will half the other features. All because the screen and each component is programmed to that specific phones SN. If they don't match. It won't work. Same basic concept. Without a JD tech to reprogram the computer. Your machine won't work properly if you repair it yourself or add a new implement or even a new field and you need to re program the gps. Farmers are having to use bootleg software from the Ukraine just to get their machines to work. Just watch literally ANY farmer on KZbin and when they get new machines on loan or even when they buy them. Most of the issues they have are with programming implements to the machine or programming the machines to the crop. Most issues are with the software. Millennial Farmer had a JD combine on loan at one time and had to have the tech out like 4 times in one day for programming issues. If that was their only combine. That whole day would have been wasted. It's honestly BS. If you're spending that kind of money on a machine. You should be able to do whatever you want or need to do to that machine by yourself and not have to rely on a JD tech that barely knows what they're doing to begin with.
@johnpowers11253 жыл бұрын
The reason we (and a lot of others) buy Deere equiptment is for the reason you describe. Their tech is well beyond others, and they have the service to go along with it. I have no desire to screw up an expensive tractors software by trying to get it to recognize a new expensive planters software. I’d rather pay a trained Deere tech to do it properly. That’s the quality we paid for. Sure there’s people out there with tech skills that like to hack into their systems and do it to save a buck, that’s their choice I guess. But when they do that and you void your agreements and warranty I don’t feel sorry for them. Don’t like Deere? Don’t buy it. That’s a simple solution. But those of us who like the tech and matching trained service will.
