Looking good! Shorter and more frequent videos are great. They're much easier to watch at lunch or some other break. It can be tough to fit in an hour video in a single sitting with everything else going on in life. It's also nice to see all the incremental progress as you go.

I agree, ~20min is a nice sweet spot. Not too much but long enough for decent amount of detail. Any longer it can be a bit too much and shorter you loose/rush content

This is looking better and better - can't wait to see how it turns out at the end! A convincing surround to a railway is so important to the visual satisfaction and I think you're doing it absolutely right here with logical embankments - i.e. there is a reason for them - and so on. For me nothing destroys the illusion of reality so much as seeing the coaches of a train suddenly go at 35 degrees to each other just inside a tunnel mouth. I know it's not always possible, but I would always elect to bring the tunnel mouth forward such that there is enough straight track inside the tunnel mouth before a curve so that the turn is not visible from outside.
@NewJunction
@NewJunction Жыл бұрын
You're dead right Alan, my plan was to increase the length of the tunnels so you couldn't see the curves behind.

Nice to see some scenery Richard. I always use a heat gun to make the hills look more natural, then brush on plaster before painting the earth/grass colour mix. I never use bandages as you often see the texture through them.

Shorter and more often sounds great to me. When looking at your trains going through the station you can see a ditch in the trackwork. Looks like the baseboards are hanging through already so you need to add more supports for them underneath. Before you finish all the scenery work at the front you should probably consider more supports there as well.

I appreciate the new jazz backing tracks. Very groovy. Not sure I've ever heard anyone describe hoovering up polystyrene so positively! I would always recommend using extruded polystyrene (XPS) instead, simply because it produces less mess. Still, whatever floats your goat, as they say. Oh, and yes I do like the shorter format occasionally. Succinct, to the point, bite-sized, easy to digest. Nicely done.

Nice to see it coming along. Obviously length of videos is up to you, and depends on what you're wanting to show us. But 20-30 minutes works well for a bit of crafty work-avoidance. Once again, I find myself wondering why chicken wire or similar formers went out of fashion. So much less mess, especially if a four-legged family member decides to come and inspect your work, and rolls in the bits!

Personally I think this has been covered before. I expect you will get this to an exhibition standard eventually. However the time its taking is an issue. Polystyrene, plaster bandage, paint and grass coverings. That's the order. If you can't speed things up. Wait. What happened to the garden railway you built a few summers ago. People sometimes move a project faster by building board by board. Or at least sections at a time. 30 odd feet of track on your own is going to be a massive project. Ask for some help from friends / workmates or wait until you can show all the layers of the scene in one 30min film... Let us know how long its been. Don't forget the cost. Foam cheap, plaster bandage to expensive then use paper and Copydex. Must paint before applying first layers of dirt and grass. ALL DONE IN 30mins for us.... Might take you 3mths or even a year without help from a friend, we all know that. Speed up your trains and complete the basic detail of scenery in the one episode for one section.
