Hi Richard. I've just bought one and am super impressed with it. I've got the bachmann DB 08 too and the Hornby one is so much nicer. One detail I really like is the cold start function!

A very beautiful loco!!! After the second world war the Dutch National Railways (NS) bought a lot of these shunters (NS class 600). Some of them are still in use by privat companies and museum railways. In H0 scale made by Roco.

Having been born in 1959 l have a very vague memory of travelling on steam trains from Paddington to Fishguard during family trips to Ireland. As l was only 3 years old at the time l did not appreciate their beauty. I do remember seeing these little shuntters working. Would you have any idea of the steam train class that would have worked the Paddington to Fishguard line ? Many thanks for an enjoyable video.

They must be useful, I saw five at the Severn Valley this morning! Though, admittedly, I was taking advantage their Open House weekend to mooch around their Diesel Depot. And if I'm honest there could well have been an 09 and an 11 in the mix.

Thank you for your video particularly highlighting the opening doors, having being into model railways for over forty years this is a welcome development. You mention the problem with the 0-6-0 locos and this one does not suffer the same problems over the slips and express turn out. It would be interesting if you could advise whose track you're using and their product codes, as I would like to ensure I am purchasing the right components for a smooth run on my new layout project

Hey I love the intro I could have watched that a lot more just what I like .... looks a good bit of kit ...seems strange to think I’d watch them shunting in our rail works yard then all these years later now playing trains ....although I don’t have an 08 yet .....regards Fred

That sounds like something that needs to be rectified Fred! ;)

tested one of these at local model shop and thought straight away how much better the sound is from Hornbys original 3.5 08s.. Love one but it will have to be a respray or a body swop as the DB red is a bit to modern .. funny choice.. why didn't they do a blue!!

Looks good at slow speed and I'm sure a small adjustment is all that's required to get that coupling to line up correctly

Great little loco, I think the sound is fine. Diesel locomotives seem to have more realistic sound than steam locos. Quite often with steam locos the "chuff chuff" is not always in sync with the speed of the loco. Cheers Greg

Your dead right Greg! Steam sounds don't bother me but upset a lot of modellers :D regards Richard

Come on Hornby , lets have a green one with wabbie stripes ! T.T.S. sound on this one might destroy the sound buff snootiness , out there ,as its most convincing.Betters many of the sound files on the sacred E.S.U. chip for this locomotive ,to my ears.

Good video, but as is the case now with all manufacturers it's over detailed. Detailed underframes and paintwork I can live with, but when you consider the distance that most locos are viewed from I can't for the life of me see what use an opening door and sprung buffers are. All it does is add to the price. I also noticed that the coupling hangs too low and didn't couple up to the wagon, which for a shunting loco is not acceptable. Sorry to ramble on but this typifies now the attitude of the manufacturers, all geared towards the collector rather than the modeler who just wants to run trains. I bet you didn't get much change out of £100 neither, just for an 0-6-0 loco.
@NewJunction7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I'll be honest I wasn't expecting that as a criticism, I'd say the opposite more detail/quality is required especially to justify higher prices. Also the use of HD & 4K cameras for things like KZbin sadly really show up a lacking tooling. Regards Richard
