He spent hours coming up with the plan, its not that much impressive- especially when you understand he could have been defeated by L or even Mellow, Near’s weakness(which is also his strength)- aka. His “passive and observant approach until having all the pieces and coming up with the perfect counter-plan”- is something that works really well with kira, but not with Minoru. If near did a risky/aggressive move and started- oh, idk- Sending false biding messages through tv(not that hard to make those kinds of special effects in tv and make them look real/authentic in this day and age), that would have made the process much harder and would have cause minoru to change his strategy and make a mistke(especially because of how he is someone that carefully crafts his plans with hours of time, he seemingly would not have the quick thinking, reactive and aggressive factor that kira had) So in other words- Near beats kira , Kira beats L,(barely) L beats Minoru(most likely, and without much effort) Minoru beats Near.

(Credit to mellow for making it easier and putting pressure of course, but in a one on one, i think the more experienced Near would take care of kira in a similar way that Minoru easily “beat” Near with a safe and “fool proof” plan)

Here's something people haven't given any thought : Minoru got the DN after the Kira-Light period , which caused the world to be aware of the DN so much they tightened security , monitoring people at every corner , thus making it hard for anyone to follow Light's footstep if they ever get to the DN . This is why Minoru chose to auction off the DN considering the situation he's in , which fits his strength of problem solving . The compare would be more fair if , this wasn't a sequel but an alternative story : Minoru got the DN before the world , police , L ... knew about it . And we will see how far will he get from there . I love the sequel oneshot tho . But really that ending is Bullshit .

İ like the new sequal and i'm doing this on purpose to give my opinion and also support for the new story and the persons behind it. (also for the video btw) but i think that we don't need to discuss who is better because each of them have different personalities,timelines,strenghts and weaknesses, ideals and abilities. I also figured out that all of you thought of all of this but it's just a reminder of the difference between then and now. Also i'm one of those people who doesn't want any follow ups so it's kind of hard for me to see that there is one but they nailed it in a very brilliant way (of course im talking about the producers) so yeah great to see our favorite anime shine again !

I think this new one shot did showed one possiblity of what if it was sold and I must say they really did it well. New Kira did outsmarted everyone. But also shows the human hunger for power. I think it really showed new side or perspective on death note. I would be happy if there is a death note series on Ryuk like what type of people does he meet on that death note book journey and how their personality come out. Are they smart or power hungers. Minoru out-Near-ed Near (L) by using cautiousness, his own introversion, and conception of all the details of the rules he was under to get to his goal of getting rid of the deathnote so he wouldn't have to be bothered with being bound to it, or do something he didn't want to do. He was still killed by it, but the fact that the Shinigami King had to step in proves his worth. Also, I feel that he used his genius in the best proactively pacifist way he could have, while Light took the other route. Now that I think more about it, Minoru is like the Near for Light... I wonder if there will be a Mello style Kira in the future....? 🤔

melo style kira probably wouldnt get very far imo, acting on intuition, impulsiveness and rash, drastic actions is not the way to go. would get caught too soon. things like that would work very well in the short run but thats it.

This hypothetical Mello Kira would have to do exactly what Mello did and gain a group of followers, but teach them all the rules of the deathnote...

@@allanreele8352 while i can agree that near style kira works, im still not convinced about melo. near's character is more of a passive thinker while melo lives more on a razor's edge always making wagers and risking something and it may cause high chance of failure in the long run. also we shouldnt forget that followers were one of the reasons of light's downfall. if fake kira didnt screw up, light might have defeated near (forgot the name of his follower).

@@GGwingweaver about the Near style Kira: to be honest, I wasn't sure that a Near styled Kira would work. I was under the impression that the only kind of Kira that could work was the original. This oneshot changed my mind. Now, I can more clearly see the potential for a Mello styled Kira. On Mello styled Kira: while I agree that a Mello styled Kira would seem to be too impulsive, rash, drastic, this would only just be his downfall if he was left to his own devices and not be kept in check by a healthy group to surround himself with. Just like how Near with Mello would be invincible, so would a more cautious group with a Mello like leader, much like we saw (for awhile at least) in the main series. But, just as this Near-Kira outdid Near, so can this hypothetical Mello-Kira, but again he would need to have a great group surrounding him to keep his impulses in check. My mind is already coming up with interesting scenarios just thinking about the possibilities 🤩

2 things one, Minoru did not think up a plan on the spot. It explicitly said it took him hours. Second Near never admitted defeat. He said that he doesn’t want to, and he also says that this isn’t a crime. This indicates that unless the death note is used for murder, Near won’t care. So. Minoru didn’t think up a plan on the spot and Near didn’t admit defeat. He just doesn’t care and doesn’t want to put in the effort if A-Kira won’t use the death note

Death note isn't over yet. It's an evolving show; one that's definitely becoming more and more self aware over time. I mean think about the technological advancements that have happened since the original Manga in 2003. Even when I first watched Death Note as a kid in 2016, I immediately figured that things wouldn't work this way in the current state of the World. The author(s) of this new Death Note one-shot have probably come to realise this fact themselves. Which is what brought us here, to this new Death Note add-on story.

Two Major mistake New Kira made:- • if the shinigami king hadn't made the new rule, the death note would have gone into the hands of Donald Trump who could use it as he likes .. first scenario He would be under everyone's eyesight but what if he used it, who's gonna stop him? For example they claimed they'd let sadam invade kuweit and not interfere... but they did. They demanded sadam to withdraw his troops, he did. As the troops retreated (weren't fighting) americans started killing indiscriminately military and civilians. I think "highway of death' is what it's called. America doesn't keep their promises and they kill civilians all the time. They don't need a death note. They just invade the entire country and take it over. Same way putin invaded crimea. In special circumstances it might be useful like killing high ranking officials, military leaders, etc.

I think they should have gave Minoru a choice to sell it just like they gave the Pres once the rule was in place. If he still chose to die, he directly opposes Light and the president and chooses to do good with the Death Note. This would make him a martyr in contrast to Kira's God.

Being that MiA was practically considered anime of the year when it first came out, I find it odd that there's been so much silence around it. Just don't read the song titles! It practically tells the story of what happens in the movie. It's honestly hauntingly beautiful, and I get chills every time I listen to it.
