In this video we talk about the differences between the kodak ektar h35 and the h35n! I've loved using it's previous model, but once I got this one in my hands I knew I needed to test it against it's younger brother!
These videos take a lot of time and effort, so I'd appreciate if you considered subscribing! Thank you for watching :)

Back in the olden days (like 40+ years ago) multiple exposure photography was a serious part of the art-form. We used to hand-cut lens masks in order to shoot superimposed images that looked like what you might see when matte painting was used in motion pictures. I honestly don't understand the inclusion of a star filter, when an ND or UV filter is far more useful. Especially since a star filter is easy to make with a bit of clear plastic and a Brillo pad.

A thought came across my mind: each color of the camera could have had a different filter. Star as one option, a diffusion filter for blooming highlights, an ND filter, a mild yellow filter for B&W contrast, and a dark red filter. A few fun creative effects, a utility ND, and a pair of contrast filters for black and white. Now you can sell someone three or four cameras.

I feel like this sits in a sweet spot for me (especially because of the high numver of shootable frames) between using a boring old phone camera and getting a camera that is more work than I honestly need. I like the quick point and click ability, but I get a little bit of control to do fun stuff beyond that. I LOVE the idea of photography and spent a sememster in a dark room in college, but I’m just looking to capture memories ina way that is comforting and connects me to the world of my youth. So I think I don’t need to be focusing and worrying about light etc. Thanks for doing these.

If they made the film rewind a little more robust as well as updating the lens and adding bulb mode, I would consider buying it. If the rewind is still flimsy, I don’t know if those other updates are really worth it. I’m perfectly happy with my old version.

I'm really curious about getting this camera... I've never shoot in film, and I really want to give it a try. However, I'm a shaky-hand person; I usually have my shutter speed at like 250 to compensate for this. Should I still give it a try, or is it a bad investment since I will ruin them all?

Wait so before hand the ektar h35 took portrait pictures when held normally? And now the h35n takes landscape ones when held normally and portrait when rotated on its side?
@Anjroo
@Anjroo Ай бұрын
They both still are portrait while held normally, but on the h35n just the viewfinder is flipped, so it’s a tiny bit bigger and easier to compose. Before it had a cheap mask blocking off parts of the viewfinder

thanks for your video) i’m from ukraine and in our country this camera kinda VERY overpriced (65 vs 89 bucks, it’s cost almost like instax), but i was lucky to buy more advanced cameras cheaper so decided why not? double the frames on party or travel could be useful for fun memories) today i finally got mine, already shoot one mini film roll)

Can I use kodak ektar h35 full frame?
@kmoecub
@kmoecub Ай бұрын
No. Half-frame cameras are always half-frame. It's a function of how the film is advanced and masked by the camera body.

@Anjroo

Unfortunately no! Timers are a pretty advanced feature, and these cameras are definitely more simple and cheap

Bulb setting + a stopwatch = timer.
@kmoecub
@kmoecub Ай бұрын
@@Anjroo Timers are not advanced at all. The simplest is just a small clockwork that is quite inexpensive to make. I have cameras from the 1890's that have timer settings for the shutter.
@thebitterfig9903
@thebitterfig9903 Ай бұрын
@@kmoecub Depends what you mean by timer. The old T setting was basically a bulb mode that stayed open without being held until used again. This is probably not too complicated, but it’s also not the most necessary, since holding the shutter in bulb isn’t hard, and modern films are fast enough that you probably aren’t doing multiple minute exposures. A self-timer which waits 10 seconds before taking the shot is not a simple feature. It probably doesn’t need to be too accurate, unlike shutter speeds, but it would require a significant step up in complexity, and one unlikely in a plastic fantastic like the Reto Kodak cameras.
@sesa2984
@sesa2984 29 күн бұрын
I’m probably gonna go with that one (and it looks cool) but the whole reason I even looked at these cameras was that original green one with the textured front. It just looks so much more of an age. I wish they’d make adirect upgrade cause I really just like investing in glass…even if its mostly psychological. Just makes it feel more like a “real” camera. And those new functions ARE cool.
@sesa2984
@sesa2984 29 күн бұрын
Since I didn’t already have one, I think it’d be dumb not to take advantage of the upgrades. Especially since the plastic lens was oroginally the only thing holding me back.
