What an amazing motorcycle from KTM! 890 Adventure is ugly like nothing else, provides unmatched performance, is already broken coming straight from the factory, and dangerous for those who need to be social in their lives.
This is my honest review after spending some time with it and testing it on the road. What a fantastic motorcycle, if you're single and want to stay single.
All views are my own and are based on my personal experiences with this KTM 890 Adventure from 2023 (facelifted). Stay tuned and subscribe for next mid-size adventure bikes and comparisons on the channel!
The main competitors are: Triumph Tiger 900, Ducati Multistrada V2, BMW F850GS, Honda Transalp 750, Suzuki V-Strom 800DE and perhaps also Suzuki V-Strom 1050 due to similar power and not that big of a difference in size and tech.

@@Coldgecko no fight coming from my side mate.. I am only giving my side. I have never, nor will I ever own a smaller capacity bike! Not interested. My first KTM 1290 SAS was fine, I am now on my second. It is fine, so far 7k miles, no issues at all. I know no more than three other owners, same bike no issues. I’m fully aware that there are issues. But not on all bikes. I have known owners of all brands with problems, including BMW and Honda. Enjoy what ever bike you ride and May every one enjoy what ever they choose. Ride safe out.

@@ColdgeckoFor worldwide remote travel, get a Tenere 700, if you don't mind it being tall and top heavy. Very basic. No electronics, and Japanese reliability. But this KTM is very appealing, otherwise

@@Coldgecko I have the same problem with the Tenere 700. As good as it is, I hate top heavy bikes that want to fall as soon as you learn it at stand still. With my 31 inch inseam, 5ft 7 in height, even getting it off the side stand is a hassle. I ride a factory low suspension BMW r1200gs and it is beautifully balanced. I can get it off the side stand, sitting on it flat footed, just with pushing with my inside thigh. That is why I think the 890 would be great for me. I like road sporty bikes, and the 890 is very capable off road also. Now there is the new 790 adventure, much cheaper, almost same bike.

Gear shift height is intended for riders to be wearing motorcross-style boots, not trainers ! Boots are stiffer and have deeper toe sections to fit underneath the lever. Anyway, they can be adjusted up or down.

It may be the reason as this pattern appears in more midsize ADV motorcycles. I bet more people still ride them in sports shoes rather than motorcycle boots.

I’ve never had any problems with my KTMs and I’ve had several. Right now I have three. One is this bike (2019 version 790). The seat sucks. Sit in it for two hours and then tell me it’s still good. Seat Concepts is no better. I finally found a half way decent seat, it’s the KTM power parts heated seat. It’s more comfortable. My 790 has 16,000 trouble free miles.

The vast majority of problems are caused by weak battery issues caused by people not riding their machines enough. It takes around 15 minutes of riding to boost the charge up the battery used to start the engine. Keep the machine on a trickle charger when not being ridden. The advanced electronics on modern motorcycles make them prone to issues caused by weak batteries.

Nice review! Beg to differ on some of your points though. I've got the same bike as in the video, with extras. Not replaced the mirrors yet, they're ok but vibey. The most annoying part. DoubleTake mirrors next me thinks. I've now done in excess of 8300 kilometers with the bike. The previous bike was a 1290 Super Adventure which I did around 55.000 kilometers on. Had a little bit of a moped feeling in the beginning on the 890. But that faded away after some 1000s. The big difference is sitting on as opposed to sitting in the bike. One gets used to it. Riding offroad, on dirt, gravel etc it's bloody awesome, plainly and simply put. The rattling /destabilization issue you notice I think can be attributed to the front fork bearing. It should be checked and tightened by the dealer. Was loose on mine. Same applies to a lot of KTMs, also my 1290. Actually had it tightened several times through my two season's ownership- It's a quick relatively fix. I've not had any issues with heating at all. Watching your video I can clearly see we have very different riding styles. My 1290 I ran in >36C amd rush traffic in northern Italy and did notice it a bit. But boots/wear can make a difference. The fan on the 890 kicks in sooner though, but does its job. If anything I think it's better. That said, almost every Euro5 compliant engine will give off heat, if pushed hard enough. Perhaps with the exception of boxer engine :). The bike has done an average of 3.7-3.8 liters/100km on long trips- With luggage. Even with a big og "hooliganistic" riding here and there. For me being a taller guy the seat in the highest position was ideal. It also resolved the little of buffeting there was. plenty of air still. Having fiddled with this inexact science of wind shields I can clearly say the 890 has one of the better. But everything is a compromise. One can buy the R screen and alternate between them. Might do that myself. What else, clutch cluster /CC will be replaced under warranty. Conked out a few times after wash. But came back after ca 1hr. Must be current/voltage protection thing. The USB port died (not alone on that one), it too will be replaced under warranty. Else it's been a hoot. I swapped out the rider part of the seat with the Ergo seat with heating. And have heated grips. Latter i consider an absolute necessity. Anyone in the market for a medium sized adventure bike should try it out, before buying anything else IMO. Cheers.

It does what I want very well be it town, country, motorway and is the perfect compromise for me. But above all it is FUN, the key element missing from my GSA and ATAS DCT ES. The front suspension isn’t adjustable on the 2022 version I have yet it is so well judged that other than a bit of preload on the rear and rebound it’s utterly no issue. I had that on the other bikes but frankly a toy that I played with rather than ever needed. Well, other than to compensate for the horribly soft Honda springs. My few issues are nowhere close to deal breakers.

I have the earlier 890 which I love. It replaced a full spec ATAS DCT ES. My gear lever was also too high and a KTM standard issue from my experience. The appearance, to be honest, I didn't like. The Suzuki DR 800 or 1050 look better in my opinion, so does the Husky 901 and the Triumph 900, but this bike is absolutely savage. I'm getting used to the insectoid looks, and to be honest, I can't see it when I'm riding it, so who gives a toss? Husky could be interesting as it's basically the same thing up to some point underneath. I'd still prefer a KTM in terms of looks though.

Do you know if the heat comes from an engine design issue or just a misplaced fan blowing into the leggs?
@eddyhoughton6542
@eddyhoughton6542 11 ай бұрын
@lewiss66 It's the design, 100%. But after nearly 10,000 km I can say it's only an issue on very hot days in slow traffic. I used to ride a BMW boxer, and that was torture in the same conditions, so it's horses for courses.

Really so hot on your legs? I tried just 2 times a norden and a 890smt and felt a bit hot on my left ankle... But wasnt summer. But i have one of the hottiest bike a multistrada v4... I want something more light without losing to much

Yes, this along with Norden and Adventure R are the motorcycles that are getting the hottest out of all that I've ridden. I would expect Multistrada V4 to stay a little cooler while there's a significant heat management issue too.

Why not take these bikes off road for which they have been designed and then hear your take?
@T30-z5w
@T30-z5w Жыл бұрын
I’ve had one since 2019. It’s a 478lb fire road bike, not an off road bike unless you’re Chris Birch and or getting these things for free because they’re not cheap to fix when damaged like dirt bikes. There are bikes that are much better for off road. That’s why I have a couple of dual sport bikes in the light and lighter category in addition to this bike.

I think that an Adventure bikes are for people that can afford to repair it after a off road crash. I agree that's what dual purpose bikes are for.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
The answer could be long and complex but even if I'd want to do that, none of the bikes that I'm able to rent from the dealers comes with offroad tires. I used to ride dirt bikes many many years ago. Later I tried a V-Strom 1000 and R 1200 GS off the road and I don't want to try anything like that anymore.

well ive owned 4 of them now and have dropped em all at least few times each but never had any damage to repair outside of hand guards or mirrors which get damaged on any dual sport in the same situation so theres that silly myth busted !! @@lh5943
