I always liked the clickiness of the bassline in this song, guess that's down to the pick to a degree ... Clubland had it too iirc but maybe I'm just thinking of the video with closeups of you picking the Bass VI
@TJH3113Ай бұрын
Was it really just the one song? It's hard to imagine, with as many songs as there are in the EC&TA catalog, that you'd have used it just once. While you're here, have you ever seen this... I've been meaning to pass it along for a while now - psychobabble200.blogspot.com/2013/08/ten-great-bruce-thomas-basslines.html I've done 6 of the 10 (some published/some of the ready line).
@AdamFriedbergАй бұрын
@@TJH3113 that's a good list, but needs to be fleshed out with 90 more In Bruce's defense, while I've never met EC, in every live video I've seen from the 70s-80s he's remarkably sweaty Just glad I didn't have front row seats

I cannot tell you Troy just how many tunes you have turned me onto from Artists and Bands that I have followed for decades. There are a TON of Artists and Bands that I have listened and played select tunes, mostly favorites of mine. A Fan but not to the extent of owning everything they ever published. There are just a "Few" who qualify to fill my Mt. Rushmore...RUSH, David Bowie, Elton John (1969--1975), Steely Dan, and many more whose Resume's are flawless in my World! Hope you do follow up with Mr. Thomas and ask about the possibility of using a pick here and there! My favorite part of this post Troy?....when you told us @ 5:52... "I really liked those parts...and I hope you did too"! WE DID! ❤ MOO From COW-lumbus, Ohio 👋

Many thanks! I'm always amazed at the gems I find just by going down their playlist. And they've got an incredibly large catalog. That's what happens when you average 14 songs an album.

Great Bruce cover as always Troy. I know you get tons of requests for songs but I just listened again to Robert Palmer's fantastic 70s song "Every Kind Of People" with the sublime late Bob Babbit on bass - surely one to consider? Please...

For me Elvis lost it a long time ago, shortly after he started taking himself seriously as a crooner or whatever. When he lost Bruce he lost all hope. I was lucky enough to have seen them with Bruce 3 times in the 80's, last time 86 I think, always excellent especially Bruce
@canalesworks1247Ай бұрын
I am a bit biased because I've developed a friendship with Bruce but I could not agree more. Bruce was the backbone of the Attractions sound. EC was never technically a great singer. It was the fire and drive of his voice, the punk energy, that made it compelling. Once he decided that he was truly a "real singer" he lost his edge and blew up "the best band in the world." The other guys have worked with him but they too don't seem to have the creative freedom that they had in their prime years. Steve Naive wrote an opera. EC and Sting sing on it. Sting was okay because he sang like "Sting." EC tried to sound "like an opera singer" and the result was awful. The man cracked and strained his way through the entire thing. It's sad because the opera is pretty good.

Saw him at Tanglewood a couple of summers ago. He sounded terrible. I agree - he’s forgotten what rock ‘n roll is about and thinks he’s Burt Bacharach.
@TJH3113Ай бұрын
@KestyJoe, We saw him 4 times before this show and things were getting progressively worse each time. The 3rd time we saw him was more in line of what you described. He still sounded pretty good and the show got off to a great start, but then less than a third of the way through he switched over to the Burt Bacharach material and lost the crown. He never got them back. This show, he played all the bangers, but just sounded horrible.
@AdamFriedbergАй бұрын
@@TJH3113 that Bachrach album, while it had some nice songs, seems to have gone right to his head. At least it wasn't Pavarotti

EC's recent shows in Sydney drew the same response - as you know, his fans are rusted on and it was clearly painful for them to witness his vocal decline. Many were attributing it to his bout with Covid..?

It's a shame, but it happens to the best of them... Ian Anderson, Bon Jovi, Geddy Lee... there's more that I can't think of off the top of my head. Some know when to pull the plug and some don't.
