I really love this design! I am also pleased to see that it is a stark departure from the cookie cutter design of our chapels that has prevailed for several decades now. I understand why the Church takes a standardized approach in our building designs, but I would love to see a revival in more unique chapels. And please, please: mid century modern style church meetinghouses! 😊
@katherinem.44145 ай бұрын
What style is that? Explain. I hope it’s okay to mention this, but I think that some temple styles needed to be redone to better show who we are, and who we were in the early days. But temples are temples. Whatever style they choose, it should be pleasing to the Lord. That’s for sure!!

I've been in a few meetinghouses outside of Utah that were primarily re-purposed buildings or sections of buildings, and it's cool that some interesting features of those are showing up here in this design. I'm the sort that appreciates beautiful design and buildings that are meant to bring people together, and I'm glad that the church sees that here. Keep in mind, everyone is welcome to come to a church when it is open, and I really appreciate that we can have these kind of publics spaces even in a downtown environment.

Speaking directly to us in our day in Mormon chapter 8: 37 For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted.
@kenton68042 жыл бұрын
An excellent point, but what's happening here is part of the challenge of striking a balance between having nice buildings for all to use, and taking care of the poor. In fact, the church takes great care to ensure they give to the poor all while managing things like this building. One can have nice things, without forgetting the poor. Not that I'm saying more couldn't be done, more could always be done.
@Avoicecyringinthesuburbs2 жыл бұрын
@@kenton6804 I understand that line of reasoning to justify the current state of affairs, however the Book of Mormon is very clear that we are off balance. We simply love mammon more than God. That's not my opinion, but a statement of fact from the Lord. We can either choose to believe that and repent, or grab the nearest pacifier and reassure ourselves all is well in Zion.
@livinthedream44792 жыл бұрын
There must have been a need to have this building here in downtown. They couldn’t just build a shack mid downtown. The church is known worldwide for its humanitarian efforts. Not to worry

@@Avoicecyringinthesuburbs C'mon, man, quit judging the church by saying "we simply love mammon more than God." I've attended church in trailers, and the singing was accompanied by a small programmed synthesizer provided by the church. I've also attended church in a small meeting room used for a lot of other functions; our singing accompaniment was on a small stereo with CDs provided by the church. I've also attended church in a large chapel whose membership reached 800 and there was a pipe organ in front. And just FYI, I've attended conference in the venerable Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. Just because the church provides lots of money (paid to the church by tithes) for meeting houses and temples doesn't mean that WE love money more than God, nor does the church leadership. I live in a SMALL one room apartment, but I still pay my tithes and offerings. And yes, I love my God and my Savior.
@Avoicecyringinthesuburbs2 жыл бұрын
@@livinthedream4479 Alma 32 10 Behold I say unto you, do ye suppose that ye cannot worship God save it be in your synagogues only? There really is no need for it, but there are a lot of people in need in the church regardless of the humanitarian efforts made by the church. Again, I am not the one making the accusations, the Prophets and even the Lord himself have made those accusations towards us in our day in the scriptures. The only way around it is to deny God's word.

Why is there never a cross on a Mormon Church, unlike every other church in the world? All I saw was a stick on the roof. 😢
@churchnewsroom Жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, thanks for your question. We recognize the symbol of the cross is used in many Christian churches as a symbol of the Savior’s death and Resurrection and as a sincere expression of faith. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we also remember with reverence the suffering of the Savior. But because the Savior lives, we do not use the symbol of His death as the symbol of our faith. We believe that the way we live our lives should demonstrate and be an expression of our faith and love for Jesus Christ. Did that answer your question? www.lds.org/topics/cross?lang=eng
