QUESTION: When in PBP/PIP mode, are both inputs able to do 144 Hz separately? On the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, in single display mode (5120x1440), it can do 240 Hz, but when split in PBP mode, both 2560x1440 sides can only do a max of 120 Hz. I'm just wondering if this LG has the same limitation.

Great review. I currently have a Dell with KVM but the one first world problem I have is in when you display both sources you still have to switch the monitor to let the KVM switch to use the single monitor and keyboard. When you go from left in your example (mac or pc) to the right it doesn't switch that on the fly correct? This is nirvana state for me or I'm doing something wrong lol...

@@BobFosterFCSI You may want to try Microsoft's Mouse Without Borders. No need to toggle a switch, it connects to both of your setups (mine is a PC and a laptop) through wifi and switches inputs based on your mouse position on the edges of the screen.

Just got this monitor! Loving it so far. I feel like one thing that keeps getting overlooked in comparison to other monitors is that this one has HDMI 2.1. So it will work with PS5 and XSX with all the graphical bells and whistles. And given that you can plug your Steam Deck straight into this thing(thanks to the USB C) without a dock or anything, this was the top option for a gamer like me(PC, Steam Deck, and PS5 user, who loves ultrawide).
@rolandopera72732 жыл бұрын
It's HDMI 2.0. What's not clear; how is it possible to be able to select 10 bit color on a monitor that supports only 8 bit color and no FRC?
@waynethang90342 жыл бұрын
@@rolandopera7273 I actually do get 2.1 and I have the results(HFR works in God of War Ragnarok for instance, which is only supposed to work with HDMI 2.1...it also passes the 120hz compatibility check in the PS5 settings) to show for it. It even says 2.1 on the display settings page under input version. Which monitors do and do not have 2.1 is a little confusing, with even LG reps themselves seeming unclear about it at times. Is there an app or something that can definitively show HDMI specs? Who knows lol

@tommytexter40546 ай бұрын
Ppl intentionally misuse the 4k 5k terms. It is a 1440p monitor. 5k horizontal doesn’t make it sharp enough to be 5k like apple studio display or even any 4k 27 or 32 inch 16 by 9, it is basically 2 1440p 27 inch side by side.

Ultrawide. I bought this monitor this week and while Amazon and others were all charging £1249-1299, I managed to get it on ebuyer for £1,007 including delivery so great value. Only set the monitor up yesterday but it is seriously impressive and has wowed people I have shown it to. I will be using it as a productivity device for office work to replace 2 x 24" monitors and can already see that this is a massive step forward. I like the fact that the curve is not a big one like other alternatives and it fits nicely on my desk taking up 32cm of dpth (would be about 28cm if I didnt have a wall behind the desk as the back of the stand touches that). I do have a deep desk at 75cm though and that means my eyes are about 70 cm from the screen which is about right. It might be a tad uncomfortable on the eyes if I had a less deep desk and had to sit closer to the screen. Highly recommended if you have the space

ULTRAWIDE has its perks which you showed. I however ended up switching back to thin bezel displays. First off, at 1440, this is not a 5k display. It would have to be 2880px to be 5k. It is simply an ultrawide 1440px display. I went back to 27" 2560x1440 for several reasons. 1) shake! I found the ultrawide displays too susceptible to table shake. 2) fiddling with windows and palates. It was never ending. Sure, in 1-window contained apps like you showed, no problem. But I work in programs like Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. I was always fighting with the image area of what I was working on and the overlap with palettes with a Single Wide Display. With individual monitors, that is not he case. I make my image area full 1-screen, my palates are on anther no overlap..and I have a third usually for manuscript notes or my browser. It is just so much easier to container/isolate your windows and apps side by side with independent displays.. And, 3) most importantly...my THREE Dell 2560x1440 27" displays were $199/ea on sale. Delivered for under $600 with my AMEX discount. Now, I know they are not the same in terms of features and specs...but none of that justified spending an extra $1000. These displays tilt, go up and down and even rotate which is nice when I am working on vertical images. Plus, their weight distribution on their stands is so well matched...no shake. The ultrawides are great for a gamer who does occasional work. But for a Worker...give me 2 or better yet 3 displays.

Correct, using the horizontal BS pixel count method is ridiculous, due to a wide aspect ratio like this completely misrepresenting what 5K is from an expected DPI perspective, this is just very wide 1440P

Nice, I also considered a similar solution, but I would feel limited with the 1440 vertical pixels. I use my setup mostly for programming, web design. etc. And I badly need the vertical space, code is written in the vertical dimension. I have a 48 inch LG OLED TV 4096x2160 as my main monitor in the center, and two 27 inch 1440x2560 monitors pivoted to portrait on both sides (a handpicked them to be exactly the same height in portrait as my main monitor and to be pivotable in both directions) so I have almost the double of vertical pixels as you, and still a more than a meter of continuous surface in the middle with 4096 pixels wide. and 2x1440 extra on the sides with bezels of 2mm. The OLED's contrast, deep blacks still amaze me after two years. The Herman Miller Aeron is a must, I have mine since 5-6 years, incomparable to any other chair.
@Hyperfluxe Жыл бұрын
Yeah the lack of vertical real estate ends up killing your workflow. Once you use a 38" 3849x1600p 21:9 UW you can't go back to 1440p anymore - extra width not only looks ridiculous when it's constrained but it's counterproductive. Gotta wait for 5k2k OLED UWDs or 8k2k w/DP2.1 OLED.

I would have liked to hear more about your own opinions. It felt like 90% of the video was you just reading from the product specification page, which I can do faster and easier on my own. The LG website is very good at telling me there is a sensor to automatically adjust the screen brightness based on how bright the light is in the room. In the video you repeat the information, quickly show how it works by blocking the sensor and then you just move on. Clicking on this video, I was hoping you would actually give your own opinion and experience on the feature. For example, did you like it? Or was it annoying and you had to turn it off? I would have liked to see you go into more depth into the topics, talking about things you liked or didn't like. The video felt rushed, like you just got it to review and had to return it the next day.

Thanks for presentation. Looks like a quite decent hulk of a monitor. Now, I do have to say something: Most monitors don't have 1ms response time anyway. 5ms is really good realistic figure already, with dedicated gaming monitors generally not being much faster than that, except OLED's. I really dislike that "1ms Response Time" marketing figure people throw around, when they're just actually talking about (G2G) response time, instead of proper response time across the color space. It would be good for all monitor reviewers to just get a colorimeter and couple other tools, and just go ahead and measure the real response times, color gamut and some other things. It's pretty easy to do these days, because both software and hardware to do that exists.

If really depends on what your doing, I've used Windows for many years now but am using the mac more for video editing and other creative work I'm doing and generally it works really well, but just takes time getting used to it. Hope that sort of helps.

Question: is there any impact on resolution/refresh rate when splitting the display between two inputs? P.S. Ultrawide
@GeekStreet2 жыл бұрын
Ok I wanted to test this for you before I responded. On a PC Max the refresh reduces to 120hz and HDR option disappears and max colour depth is 8-bit with a resolution 2560x1440 On the MAC too the HDR and refresh aren't available so I'm assuming the refresh is down to 120hz here too. Hope that helps.

How curved is it? In practical terms. Is it fairly flat, what I am looking for or one that is about to give you a hug?

Ultrawide. Shame there are only two USB ports on the KVM. Anybody remote working probably has a webcam to loop into their devices now and that port count is a little stingy given the space available to house extra ports…

Some Ultrawide have serious image distortion around the edges when using Word/PDF/etc. I am mainly looking to do data analysis and write manuscripts. Is there any distortion (textually) or is everything looking good even towards the edges?

Hey there - with the KVM in this monitor, is it possible to switch without using LG's dual controller software? My other PC is a work computer, and I won't be able to install any software on it.
@GeekStreet Жыл бұрын
You can use the controls on the monitor to switch too.
@stugots2863 Жыл бұрын
@@GeekStreet thank you! This is what I was trying to find out. Don’t you have to first switch the source, then switch the USB input (separately)? As in, it can’t happen with a single button switch? This is what I’m reading in the manual anyways.
@GeekStreet Жыл бұрын
@@stugots2863 luckily its just a single button to switch like displayport to type c for example and kvm changes at the same time.

@@GeekStreet -ok but maybe I'm not understanding it. I have airpods and an ipod that use usb. So if I want to use the ports on the monitor wouldn't I need to connect the upstream to power the ports? or exactly when would I need the upstream connected? just for mouse and keyboard?

Open your mind a bit. There are hardcore gamers that don’t have the budget to play any better than 1080p at medium settings, just as there are people who can afford overkill specs and barely play at all. We need to get rid of this obsession with labeling people and putting them into tight boxes.
