A very good idea, but too bulky also cables might detach at high speeds. But listen could you adapt this for bike's fairings powered by its battery. This will change entire night's bike look as well will improve the visibility of the bike at night for other drivers/riders.

Just a suggestion, how about moving the brick on the side of the helmet to back center of helmet with the availability to have power button flash red. This would give equal wiring for both sides of the helmet and a slow flashing red light to the back as well. Cool idea though.

Nice and cool, but would be nice if you have some kind of intersection socket/cables in the rear section, so that the control module can be inserted on rear bottom helmet/jacket, it would be much convenient and less fuss, plus can avoid water damage risk.

Great idea, and we definitely thought about those ideas. In short, there are usability, wear, and design challenges associated with those ideas. And based on our feedback over the years, not many people seem to have a problem with mounting the controller to the exterior of the helmet.

Have you considered using flat cable and connectors? I think it will look more slick and less bulky. The last thing i need on my helmet is a bulky light mod where i already have a gopro and intecom mounted. Anyways it's a nice project and i'm looking forward for a more elegant version of it.

There's a reason why we didn't design it so that the control unit goes inside the helmet. This also goes for all Sena and Cardo bluetooth devices too: 1. There's no room. Helmets are designed to fit tight around your skull. If there's room, you need a smaller helmet size. 2. It's extremely unsafe. You don't want your skull crushing the control unit inside your own helmet during a crash.

@@Mr.LightMode I didn't say the control unit, I mentioned longer wires so they can be hidden. It would actually balance out a sena on the opposite side. Just need wires long enough to run inside the helmet to hide them. Same concept as your living room, no one wants visible wires. Just a thought. Thank you for responding though. Should get the controller to do more than one thing... example Bluetooth! Otherwise I prefer to have my Bluetooth than a controller... if you want to push it a bit further make a portion of your light (back) become brighter when you brake, of course this requires a bit more...but safety is a good selling marketing tool. If you want more ideas for your product let me know there's tons available.

I really love the technology. But, the size of the controller and too many wires makes it impossible for long rides and i honestly doubt the cables will be sticking to the controller and light strip when we ride in 150+ on cross winds. If you could make the controller smaller with light strip permanently attached to it and stick the controller inside (back side) of the helmet. It will sell like hot cake even though the battery long last only for 3hours. It could be so easy to fix it. Its just my opinion. Product looks cool though👍🏻

The LION King, thanks so much for the feedback. If you could see the LightMode controller next to a Sena 20S or SMH10, you'd see that it's actually a bit smaller, especially since Sena's mounting hardware is bigger/heavier than our mount. Here's a pic of a helmet with a Sena 20S on the left, and LM controller on the right: bit.ly/2GxHhWc. Our previous gen controller was bigger/boxier than the current design mainly because it used 2 AA batteries. We actually spent about a year and a half designing this LM controller, trying to not waste a single mm inside while maximizing the brightness and battery life. Based on our customer feedback and industry standards, 3 hour battery life would not have been desireable. I can assure you absolutely nothing would fly off your helmet even at 150+ mph. We've been selling LM kits for years now, sold thousands worldwide, and I've even worn mine on some of California's race tracks. The adhesives we use were designed to handle extremely high speeds. Also, sticking an electronic device between your skull and the EPS layer comes with 3 major challenges: (1) there's no room, hence it would be uncomfortable even if you could squeeze it, (2) how would one access the controls? (3) it's significantly more dangerous during a crash compared to fixing the controller to the exterior. This is probably why you never see bluetooth devices mounted inside your helmet.

Nathan V Unfortunately no, the risk of accidental tugging on the lead wires is too high if the controller were to be inside your pocket, for example. Have you ever used a Sena Bluetooth device before? The LightMode controller is smaller than most of their devices. You can see a size comparison here: bit.ly/2EKexwp

All helmets. Skate helmets just have less surface area to stick them on to so you may need to cut them short which is okay as long as you insulate the cut edge with super glue, 2 part epoxy, or some high quality tape.

Hey Goran, unfortunately something like that would not be waterproof once you cut it. Also, there's a certain amount of surface area that the controller can handle. The amount of illuminated area in the LightMode light strips are carefully engineered to be suitable for the LightMode controller. If I allow people to cut out there own shapes, some people will not cut away enough, and some too much. PS. Highly highly recommend you check back on this channel in about 2 weeks. You won't regret it 😉

Hey Icon. One kit comes with TWO light strips and ONE controller to light up the two light strips. You need *two* Neutron kits to connect 4 lights to 2 controllers like in the video with the purple one. Awesome kit, but that "controller" is just way too big. Plus, the plugs man, the plugs! I'll keep an eye out on your products in hope that you'll eventually get this all streamlined into a more neat package.

Thanks for the feedback, Duncan. The plugs are 2.5 mm, not 3.5 mm like your stereo jacks. The previous gen controller used 2 AA batteries and was bigger/boxy. If you saw that one you'd be outraged lol. Even that one sold quite well. There's a trade off between size, battery life, and brightness and we spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect balance according to our customers' feedback. For that reason, we don't plan to create a 3rd generation. We could've reduced the height by 3-4 mm, but that would've cut the battery life in half, and we were skeptical most riders would prefer this given that almost all Sena bluetooth devices are larger/heavier than our device. Shinta Himura It's actually smaller and lighter than most Bluetooth devices for motorcycle helmets. I wish I could upload a picture to show you. Anyways, to each their own. I have a GoPro, Sena SMH10 and a LightMode kit on my helmet and the only thing I really notice is the weight/drag of the GoPro.

I've never physically held the Shark Tooth, but from what I see on the video, if you were to stack the Shark Tooth's controller and its battery together like a sandwich, the overall length/width/height of the LightMode controller should be around the same dimensions.

I ride with a Sena on the left side, GoPro (with GP10 attachment) on the chin, and LightMode controller on the right. It's just priorities.. some people want less stuff on their helmet, some people want a dashcam, some people want to be seen better at night, some people want all of the above lol. Trade-offs.

I remember buying one of your other kits years ago which is now the Electron kit, what happened to the price?! Fairly sure I didn't spend more than $60, have they really improved that much to justify nearly 3x the price? (If so i'd be looking to buy again)

Hey KaShuto, great question. The previous gen controllers were about $70, so you're looking at around 2x the price, not 3x. With that price increase comes MANY important improvements, with the key ones being a smaller/sleeker controller with a built in usb-rechargeable li-ion battery. This controller is now removeable too with a clip on/off mechanism and a super low-profile mount. The whole system (controller, wires, connectors and lights) is now water resistant, the previous gen was not. The connectors are less clunky and gold plated to resist corrosion. The circuit board inside now has a hydrophobic layer on both sides to further resist water/humidity. In addition to all this, we had to pay an accredited certification lab in Canada to pass CE/FCC/ICES certification requirements. Also, the amount of R&D that went into creating the new controller from scratch took almost 2 years of prototyping and electrical/mechanical engineering - very expensive.

I just got my kit and it worked great for a few times turning on and off with maybe a total run time of 30 secs when I sun went down I got excited to see it light up and when I hit the on button nothing :(. I fully charged it too until the light turned green I also plugged it back in after it wouldn’t power on and I’m not getting any lights or charging indications what could have gone wrong? Brand new kit didn’t even get to ride with it :(

potatochobit Not necessarily. I have ridden with this in Vancouver, BC where it is technically illegal for 4 years and have ONLY ever received compliments from cops. Maybe if you had blue LED's on your helmet you might have some issues, but these are not LED's. The illumination is like a soft glow that could in no way ever be confused with a police officer. We've sold thousands of these kits around the world - blue and aqua being the most popular - and have never got feedback from a customer via email, Instagram, Facebook, or KZbin that they received a ticket. Not saying it hasn't happened, but surely by now we would've heard of at least one case.

if the power box light didnt blink, then it would be 10/10 for me. rn its like a 9/10, so im still gonna get it, and probably sharpie most of the round light.

Overthinking A sharpie should do it, but just know you may not see it flash red when the battery is low or go green once it finishes charging.

How long does the EL strips last? Electroluminiscent elements tend to fade quite fast..

My first LightMode helmet from 2014 still hasn't faded. I've tested different color EL wires in the sun for almost a year straight, no breaks, outside everyday all day. Only the red started to fade, and that was the red pigment coloring on the clear plastic insulation, not the EL material itself. The peel/stick strips don't seem to fade.

It's actually smaller and lighter than most motorcycle bluetooth communication devices. We could have made it smaller, but then we would either sacrifice how bright we can make the light or lose battery life. We believe we found the perfect balance based on our customer feedback prior to making this. I have a LightMode controller, Sena SMH10, and GoPro fixed to my helmet, and the only one I can feel while riding is the GoPro. The LightMode controller is smaller than the Sena SMH10 and I don't even notice the SMH10 on my helmet. @@28_babyshark We already made the controller smaller via the help of Kickstarter in 2017 (Google it). The problem is everyone wants small, bright, and long battery life, but you just can't have all 3 with today's current state of technology, so we had to find the right balance according to the feedback we received from our supporters.
