I've been using my base M4 MacBook Pro (16gb RAM, 1TB SSD, Space Black) since launch day, and it has handled everything I've thrown at it with ease. The fans have yet to kick on even once, and as my first Mac, it has been a revelation in many ways. I could not be happier with it.

im going from a 2016 macbook pro the original one version 1 with the old design that came with 4 usbc ports 13” intel based chips to an M4 Macbook Pro ! and i have never been so excited ! i waited through the M chips to reach 4 as its my favorite number ! and while those are still great something about 4 they just got perfectly right ! 4 is the magic number !

Thanks for the great overview. May I ask how you’re finding the 14” display size. I sold my 16” MBP 2019 and am considering downsizing to 14” as I found the 16” had a larger footprint. I will be photo editing and the occasional video edit. Thank you! 🙏

It can be a little cramped when editing video, depending on what elements of the editor you want visible. It's perfectly usable, and I think worth it to get the portability. For me personally, because I'm using a 27-inch monitor at home, that became less of an issue. I just needed something I can easily carry around with me when I travel.

Yes, the best 2024 laptop is the MB Pro 14 M4 Pro. Of course, the sad thing is that it is clearly only for some due to the lack of game support and people's hesitancy to switch from the Windows ecosystem. So, many people have missed out on Macs and their efficiency and performance dominance for the last four years. This year, we have seen better ultrabooks from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm, but they do not compete with the M4 Pro, and we have to wait for Intel's Arrow Lake and Qualcomm to launch a pro machine and AMD to actually get some stuff out. At least rivals can now compete with the MB Air for a few months before the M4 Air launches, with Windows ultrabooks now being much closer to Macbook Airs.

First of all, users choose Apple or Windows for OS preference and that’s the main thing, so compairing the hardware is a non sense. And who in earth who buy an Apple machine for gaming ? A MacBook Pro is a Pro machine for working before all.

I’m struggling to decide on nano glass for photography….. just not sure….

I do photography as well. I ended up getting the M4 with the standard display. Nano texture is nice for what it does (reduce glare), but there's a trade off with that screen. The nano texture colors are a bit muted compared to the standard glossy screen. Colors don't pop like the glossy screen. Blacks are not as dark. And the whites, especially when looking at the white background on a KZbin page, the whites don't look completely white. The standard glossy screen is more vibrant and has more contrast. It's not an extreme difference between the two, but more of a subtle noticeable difference. Easy to see side by side in an apple store. But, for someone where color accuracy is a must for my job, I went with the standard glossy screen. But, at the end of the day, it's whatever screen makes you happy.

i would be curios to know what your memory pressure and swap usage is when. Can you check your Activity monitor app. i'm also debating 24 vs 48gig on a mac-mini pro. i like your mind set of doing longer with hardware i have the same plan, at least 5yr and if i can stretch it to 7yr even better..

Yeah, with Final Cut Pro running - about 21GB, with WhatsApp/Telegram/Chrome also open. Biggest chunk of it was FCPX. More RAM is never a bad option, personally just felt since I got on okay with 16GB for so long, having 24GB would be more than enough.
