The bushings hold end mills of different sizes in the grinder spindle @ the wheel.

I'll have to take a closer look at them when I get some time.

That's a nice machine! That was a good price. Those "shims" are fingers used to guide flutes of cutters, drills etc as you feed them past the wheel. That air bearing is a nice addition. I scored a Clarkson TC grinder a couple of months ago at auction. Its sat in my garage. I've been meaning to start a video series on doing a refurb but other things have gotten in the way!

Just one more thing, I'd put a guard round the wheel.
@MyLilMule4 ай бұрын
I know what you mean about other things getting in the way. There's no telling when I will get to this one.
@MyLilMule4 ай бұрын
Definitely needs a guard. I'm hoping I will come across parts here and there. Probably not likely going to be easy.

@@MyLilMule I'd plan on making everything that's missing that you need. Spares and accessories for TC grinders, besides being rare, usually are priced way above what you paid for the whole machine. By way of an example, the Clarkson I bought came with a whole lot of bushings (like the ones in the toolbox youve got). I found some for sale on a website here, £130 / $170 each!!

Wow, it looks to me like a great deal. It just shows that just wait, there is something out there that will hit the good buttons. We are glad you found this. On a side note for those button smashers, good job. For those who are afraid of that button, come on, it's fun. Give it a good smack. 😊

Yeah, it wasn't a planned purchase, but I have learned that when you see a good deal, it's hard to pass by it.

I hope you noticed that those "collets" in the tool box are featured on the magazine at 12:55. 👍

That will be a very nice toy to play with. And for only 120$, it can't go wrong.

My thoughts exactly.

Usually there’s some kind of fine adjustment for the angle of the work table. That nub on the end of the table could be something like that. Opposing screws mounted to a fitting that can be repositioned in the line of holes.

Very possible. I have to find time to do more research.

Nice find, In the late 70's I work for the Brubaker tool company in the Dry Grind area where the end mils where sharpened , we had those Weldon air bearings on the flute grinders , which were tool and cutter grinders, we used Weldon holders to attach the end mill in then they fit on the end of the air bearing, I have some pictures from the dry grind area and the Weldon tool holder that I mentioned. those thing in the tool box may have been bushing used to hold tapered shanks in the Weldon holders. I also have a K. O. Lee surface grinder in my shop....

I have sooo much to learn. And the more I chat with folks like you, the more I realize I may never learn everything I WANT to learn and might have to settle for learning the things I can. I just need to figure out when I am going to be able to work on it. Probably months away at this point.

Nice score. Just a guess, but I think the envelope with the bits in it look like fingers that you would use and are consumables.
@MyLilMule4 ай бұрын
Good call!
@grntitan14 ай бұрын
The little metal pieces in the envelope appear to be the fingers used when sharpening end mills. The finger rides along the flute.

Nice tool. Looks like a good deal to me. I don't see them for sale around here often.

They pop up every now and again at auctions. I have seen plenty for sale, but I don't have the budget to get something ready to run.

I have a new to me, 1942 Cincinnati #2 Tool Cutter and Grinder., I've been wondering if I need an air bearing to sharpen end mills? Any ideas?
@MyLilMule4 ай бұрын
Well, I am newer than new to this. But that's what I understand from a manual machining process. However, there are ways to use a spin indexer and a DRO with a stepper motor to not use the air bearing - a friend of mine, @stefanobertelli2650, is doing some experimenting with the open source DRO he is developing.

You have a lot of work ahead . how's things going with the S.B . JM
@MyLilMule4 ай бұрын
The SB is making progress, but slowly. I still have some parts to strip paint off. I've been holding off on the repaint of the larger pieces until it starts to cool off. I want to do that work in the garage with the door open or outside. Lots of sanding and dust and I don't want that junk in the shop. Been too hot this summer. I knew it was going to be a slow restoration, I want to do it right/
@junkmannoparts96964 ай бұрын
Hope to see it in your videos one day .
@MyLilMule4 ай бұрын
Not sure how much of the sanding and painting I will record. Maybe some just to describe what I am doing. But I think as a whole, it’s not very interesting to a wide range of viewers. But expect to see some. Thanks for watching and the support!

wait... 120 dolars for the entire machine? i cant even buy a grinding stone for that price, and you even got a few brand new ones included with it! that's just crazy

So many shops around here are going out of business. It's sad in one way, that manufacturing is continuing to decline in the US, but it other ways, for a hobbyist like myself, it's an opportunity.

Doug Lester told me about yours maybe being available. You're only a few hours for me and I considered reaching out to you. But the one you had was much bigger (and nicer) and would have been too big for my shop.
