Hello, I watched some of your videos, I liked your workshop, I'm also gradually developing my Metalworking workshop. In Russia, there are more and more masters on KZbin who restore old machines, and so am I. I also scrape with my hands. So far, I'm restoring old vises and my machines. Now I am preparing for the first difficult job of attaching a head from another machine to a horizontal milling machine.

I Really enjoyed the H3 video, it brings back a lot of good machine shop memories and funny things that happened then,...our shop had a UNIVERSAL HEAD... It was Huge and worked well. I'm Retired now, and miss the Work... there's Nothing like a Manual Machine to make You use your Brain to Create Something or to Repair a Broken Part.... CNC is Great for Fancy Smanchy PRODUCTION RUNS... but not satisfying like making a ONE-TIME Piece.. (what is so Fun about loading a blank Billet in a machine time after time...closing the doors and pressing the GO button?) No wonder They have to go to the gym at the end of the day.

Daniel I'm from that area. Even though I'm in my late 30's I've heard and seen all the industries closing as well as what is done to the community because of it. My Stepfather worked for P&H till his retirement a few years back, he was one of a few over-head crane operators that did the extremely heavy lifts, and sometimes maybe only 2 or 3 lifts a night... Anyways, there were times he'd be laid off for a year or better anytime the company would change hands or the mining industry would take a hit, luckily this was a union shop, so their jobs were held for them instead of getting newer cheaper labor like some companies like to pull after a lay-off!!!

Andrew Bronson I work for one of the major railroads that go through the Milwaukee area and it’s sad to pass one vacant industry after another with the rail spur truncated. Like everything else, one can’t dwell in the past.

@@wdhewson Curious fact... back then when the war with japan seemed inevitable, it is well known that the usa shutdown the supply of oil to japan, but what is not so well known is that they also banned the export of machine tools to japan. If one could tour the factories of japan's war industry back then, all the metal working machines were american imports.

The fact that auction companies, decades in, don't hire, part time, a former savvy employee of the company that they're selling the tools from, in an advisory capacity to tell them "yeah, that one went with this, that one went to that" is just murder. I have a friend in Munich who bought several machines at a part out sale, found out that there quite a few pieces missing, went back, had to back track through the other people who were there and bought stuff, and buy from them, and in one case swap, parts. Considering how much money the auction houses are getting out of this paying someone minimum wage to arrange things for two days would be pennies. But no, make as much money as possible, destroy machines and equipment as much as possible by separating them.
