Thank you Rob for doing this. I love making bags and what Deb is saying is so true. The foot is a 1/4 inch but rides the zipper and does not sew evenly.

0:36 A thousand thanks to Rob Appell for your UTube video, “Baste and Quilt Your Own Quilts at Home.” I love piecing quilts, but now have a bunch! Of quilt tops unfinished. I enjoy doing my own FMQ, but have DREADED making the quilt sandwich. Also I always ended up with serious creases and folds quilted into the backing. I tried on the floor (doesn’t work with carpet); using pool noodles; machine basting; hanging it up to pin; homemade quilt “glue”. All were not working for me and it always took a long time to prepare the sandwich. After watching Rob’s video, I made the quilt sandwich on my dining room table with clamps! Hooray! It was easy, quick and it worked. No creases in the finished quilt! I was so excited that I grabbed four more tops and sandwiched them! It took less than a week! Now I can get all of these finished, finally, and prepare another batch!

So similar to my Juki 2010. I believe Juki calls that really skinny foot a zipper foot. It’s fantastic with bagmaking.

Wow! Straight stitch only? Fewer skipped stitches than a zig-zag? I didn’t know. It looks like Deb is quilting on her bags. What is the number of that itty, bitty foot?

Thank you for doing this video, but I’m still not sure what the point is you were trying to make. It seemed to be more on the benefits of the semi-industrial Bernette machine for Deb’s bag making needs. I found it interesting, nonetheless. Perhaps if you increased the presser foot pressure for sewing in the zipper, Deb wouldn’t have had so much trouble sewing a straight line? Not sure…some people just have problems maintaining a straight line with the exact seam allowance required. The seam guide you added, Rob, was a great idea to help Deb out with that. The long, fake nails and many oversized rings looked like they might be adding to her stitching issues. I find them unnecessarily distracting when trying to watch stitching closeup shots.
