I am buying this because it can be used as wired when in need, especially while logging in and Bluetooth was turned off. I had to always find/borrow or call my friends for a keyboard every time I need to login into my mac system because there were instances where I turn off Bluetooth and shut my system.

Hi Jerry! - I’ve searched the Web, but I can’t find answers to any the following, so, could you please clarify, that the keys:- F4 (Search) F5 (Dictation) F6 (Do Not Disturb) - as well as the dedicated Emoji and the Global Menu keys - function perfectly well with the new the 2021 iPad M1 Pros? If so, I presume that I’d buy the one with just the Lock key (does that work?) function in the top fight hand corner, as opposed the one with the Touch ID, as I understand this function does not work on the iPad’s, only on the iMac/MacBook’s, is that correct?

I bought mine and I like it. The only issue I've had is that the connection gets lost from time to time. Touch ID is so nice!

if the laptop is sleeping in clamshell mode, to wake it up and unlock it using Touch ID on the keyboard, do you have to press any key to wake it and then use Touch ID or just use Touch ID and it would wake up and unlock?

I'm so glad I got the Silver iMac. I can easily get a replacement for my mouse or keyboard if I have to. On top of that, I can get a matching Magic Trackpad if I feel like it. I'm so happy to see that during the presentation of MacOS Monterey, they only used silver iMacs. I think Apple has a thing for simplicity and minimalism. I think silver is the best color and if you like color, just change the wallpaper to whichever color you like. 😂

When I click on the touch ID section it says "oops you clicked. just touch your finger" - but when I do that - nothing appears and no signal to click my macbook... Maybe a faulty keyboard? Thanks

First timer considering getting M1 Mini. I think I'd get this keyboard instead of some other, cause touch ID seems just simply handy. One stupid question though. If I'd get M1 Mini and this keyboard. just bought this and a magic touchpad for my new mediacetner-player setup with mac mini m1. im connecting the keyboard and touchpad with a mac-bridge. BUT im really bummed out to find out the keyboard dosent have backlight. The buttons are there so first i just thought my keyboard didnt work but after seeing this i realise its not there. The toughpad is so much better than the expensive logitech media keyboard i have been using so i guess i will have to live with it. But come-on apple.

You can pair to 2 devices but you need to manually connect from the computer you want to connect to. It's not the best.

I had to send my touch ID keyboard back yesterday. One of the shift keys froze down. Bumming about that. Of course, Apple's customer service is excellent so they're sending me a new one. So I broke out my Space Gray one and it seems more, I don't know, substantial? Better built? It just feels ... better. Weird. The touch ID on the other worked flawlessly. It just feels somehow, less. Have you noticed anything like that?

If using a MacBook many people want to use at a desk with an external display and in clamshell mode with he laptop closed. Also, its more comfortable to use an external keyboard with a mouse or trackpad to the side rather than with the trackpad in front on the laptop.

touch id is almost completely pointless. You can't use it to log in into your mac from start up. Even Microsoft lets you do this. Touch Id is just a glorified lock button. So many "reviews" gloss over this missing, and most important feature. No worth the $50 premium imo.

That is because of the full system encryption at boot. Even iOS needs a password on boot.

@@JerrySchulze I appreciate the reply :D. i don't buy it, especially if its from apple. i have a mac mini, and to power it on you have to press a power button that doesn't have touch id. The system is fully booted by the time the password prompt comes up. If the system by this time (the prompt) already knows what my password is (as part of the encryption), it should know my fingerprint. I can understand your point for laptops, but apple can simply require two presses of the power button to log in. one to power up, and the other for the touch id function. I think its a design oversight on apple's part to be honest. The only work around is to leave your mac on sleep mode.

@@EdU-od5ec Extremely late reply, but that's not how anything works. On boot up, the computer actually has no clue what your password is. It has to ask for it because without the password none of the data on the computer is accessible. When you type in your password, the computer attempts to use the password to decrypt your data. If it fails, wrong password. If it works, continue booting. Once this first boot unlock is done, consecutive unlocks can use your fingerprint to authenticate you because the computer already knows your decryption key (it remembers your password). When it asks you for your fingerprint, it doesn't actually use the fingerprint scan for anything. All it does is compare the fingerprint to existing registered fingerprints, and if there's a match, take you to the desktop. TL;DR The fingerprint isn't your decryption key, the computer doesn't know your password or decryption key on boot up, there's no way for Apple to add biometric to first boot up without compromising security.

I hate to power up the mini with the power button... type in the password and use the touch ID to put it to sleep and wake it up. I can save the extra money and buy an Apple keyboard without touch ID instead!

I already have the MX keys mini, but my password manager uses the fingerprint reader for access to certain sites. So basically I always need to have my laptop open to use the fingerprint reader for work.
