For a surface plate, I use a piece of granite that was made to be a cutting board, but is flat to about a thou give. Sometimes kitchen shops skip good bits of granite and other times memorial masons sometimes have bits of granite, but marking out my bit of granite has served me well. Never before seen a magnetic chuck, but looks super useful for ferrous sheet stock. Thanks for sharing!

After watching your video, that mag chuck as you say looks good for the money so I have just purchased the same one. As I only have a mini mill it will fit the bill superbly , good video.

Allo Cliff I bought virtually the identical one a couple of months ago for a tool and cutter/surface grinder that Ive been building. I got mine from Aliexpress and it cost me over a £100 so you got a good deal there mate.

I haven't used my chuck in anger yet Cliff cause I'm only going to use mine on the grinder when I finish it. I would urge a bit of caution though if your gonna use it on the mill and block your component in really well, only taking the very lightest of cuts.I've been in the game for 50 years and witnessed a few things breaking free from magnetic chucks. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the surface grinder when you start it mate.

I only ever really used it to "clamp" stuff to the bed of my Taylor Hobson engraving machine, which it worked wonderfully for, never got to try it for milling, and it'll be a while now before I can!😱

This is a granite plate I bought for not too much money. I have no idea what it costs to send it by post to you. It is not a top end stone but it works ok. They have a larger on for about 100$us Best regards Frank

Kind of Cliff, work threw out a old surface Grinder, they left the bed on, I scrapped the motor and re-homed the Magnetic Bed
