I was put off by the nightgown look of the Wildergown on the pattern packet but I made a short three tier version in a tropical leaf print and I adore it. Wore it on a cruise. Looks great with sandals and sneakers

A short sleeved Wilder in tropical leaf print sounds lovely and summery! I do like that idea of making a summery one and pairing with sandals and sneakers, nice and versatile 😊

Hi, Cath! I grew up in southern Arizona, where saguaros grow, and you did pronounce the word right. I have a good bit of double brushed polyester fabric and some slinky knits that I assume also have a lot of polyester in them, in my stash. They can be very troublesome to sew in regards to skipped stitches. I use a microtex needle by Schmetz, and it really helps for it to be a new needle. That was smart to change your serger needles. It's really a lot simple than we tend to think. I sure like your wilder gown on you, as well as your swimsuit. And your knitting always blows me away! Fantastic!
@madebycathcraft7 ай бұрын
Hi Tammy, thank you, I’m glad I pronounced saguaro right! Skipping stitches on certain fabrics is a nuisance isn’t it, that’s very good to know a microtex needle makes a difference, thank you. Thank you, I enjoyed wearing the Wilder gown and am really enjoying working on my knitting project 😊

You were missed, Cath! So good to see you again, and I love your new makes. I didn't know that Liberty made swimsuit fabric, your bikini is gorgeous :) I love the rainbow cotton jersey & hope you get to wear your top more often now that you've sorted that elastic out. Your knitting is super, you are so good at the lace pattern - I can never get that right somehow. Enjoy your sewing & knitting time and I look forward to seeing you again soon :) x

I just made a Wilder gown, the short dress with short sleeves. I used a fabric that was not a favorite but really nice quality of rayon. I didn’t think I would like the neckline as I don’t like things on my neck. I love it so much! I immediately cut another (after a sleeve adjustment). I was quite surprised how much I loved it. I have learned not to make a toile out of fabric I don’t like the texture or drape of because then I don’t appreciate the pattern properly. So I believe since I used a good quality fabric, but not one that was precious to me, I liked it much better. Yours is so pretty, I hope you find a way to enjoy wearing it.
@madebycathcraft7 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. That’s a really good consideration about not making a toile out of a fabric where you don’t like the texture or drape. It can make such a big difference to a pattern can’t it. I do like the idea of making a short sleeved Wilder gown too.

Hi Cath So pleased you are back Its nice to have time with your family and make some memories When I first saw the video I honestly thought that you had black velvet ribbon on your dress it would definitely elevate it as you suggested but it looks amazing anyway so cosy The shorts would make a lovely set with the blouse and put a bright colour as a t shirt red would look great I think or bright pink Love the way your swimwear turned out and such a cleaver idea to style in different ways Your knitting is beautiful as well Cath love the pattern on it I’ve just finished another cardigan late last night and now I’m working on a cream tank top Also just made a top I wanted to wear next week to go to an award ceremony for my grandson Have a good week Cath see you soon xx❤️❤️❤️❤️

You pronounced saguaro perfectly! You look relaxed and energized so family time was time well spent. Love your makes. If you decide to make a short sleeve Wilder dress, perhaps shorten the front opening a bit for modesty and leave the ties untied. You could place a few stitches to the ends of the ties into the ruffle to prevent the ruffle from unruffling (hoping you understand my made up word! ), perhaps even consider placing a loose ruffle to the ends of sleeves as well. Gauze and light weight fabrics would make for lovely warm weather blouses, in fact I just talked myself into buying this pattern! Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Hi Cath, your Wilder looks lovely, the velvet ribbon would be a great idea, I would look for a nylon backed velvet ribbon as it would slide better in the neckline. Thanks for the Edgewater info, I have made swimwear but the elastic was always an issue for me, Edgewater appear to have lots of sewing info so that’s very helpful, your bikini looks lovely, great fabric. Great catch up Cath! I really like your Wilder gown on you, so I'm glad you've decided to keep it. Love the bikini set! I've been following Edgewater Ave for a while now and every summer she does $5 Fridays for specific patterns. I highly recommend joining her mailing list if you've been eyeing any of her other patterns. My other thought was regarding your skipped stitches -- I encountered this problem also sewing with rubber elastic and folding over a swim edge (like a waistband or leg opening). On my sewing machine I solved this problem by increasing my thread tension significantly. Perhaps increasing your thread tensions on your serger will help? I've also experimented with Maxi-Stretch thread in my loopers with good results. But if you have perfectly good results with your sewing machine, stick with that!
@madebycathcraft7 ай бұрын
Thank you! Oh fab I will make sure I join the mailing list, that sounds good! Thank you, that’s really helpful advice for skipped stitches, I will try to adjust the tension. I’d to love to be able to solve the issue!

Hi Cath, do you have any advice on what to do with handmade pieces that just don't fit ones wardrobe anymore? Do charity shops take self-sewn garments?
@madebycathcraft7 ай бұрын
Hi there, I’m not sure if charity shops take handmade clothing to sell on. I have heard that they might need a label with fibre content and care instructions. They might take to sell on as textiles I guess but I’m not sure. I try to pass on to friends and family if I can.

Time spent with the children is more important. Love the dress! It’s just so pretty. Is there a way to change the collar? I’m not sure I could wear that collar. Happy sewing from Arizona, USA.
@madebycathcraft7 ай бұрын
Thank you 😊 I’m not sure if it would be easy to change the collar as it all cinches in around there but others have mentioned how you can style it by leaving it more open and trying a knot at each side so it doesn’t feel too restrictive around the neck
