Great review Cath. Your new dress looks lovely on you. I appreciated hearing about the instructions. I think I have a Vera top pattern by Forget-Me-Not patterns that I haven't sewn up yet but have heard many positive comments about. Also appreciated your chat about the type of fabric. I love cotton gauze and often see it on woven pattern fabric recommendations. One top I made with it is sooo comfy but it definitely grew since the sew and I don't think I would want a shirtdress out of it. Still..have a couple pieces left I need to figure out a pattern for. One I'm going to use for a nightgown as that won't matter if it loosens. xx Karen

Ogden tee for the granny squares? Floaty skirt or Ogden hack dress would be wonderful for the floral stripe. Paper Theory sweater would look great on you Basics are great and if you don't have a scoop neckline then you should make it.....but...if you don't think you'll reach for it....stick with your favorites.

Love all those colors in the Mave skirt you're wearing. That multicolor fabric seems to match the vibe of your skirt. Admire your discipline with a small fabric stash. I only have a few more days of summer vacation and have been batch cutting out matching existing patterns to existing stash. I'm pleased to see more room in my sweater boxes and hoping even a few hours of sewing on the weekend will help me finish out some projects. For that cozy white rib knit, I would love to see you sew up the open neck Agnes top. Fun to follow your journey. xx Karen

I just made the Seamwork Hansie top (it's a free pattern, I think?) from some leftover linen and really like it - it might also be lovely in your tile-print cotton, I think. Maybe with a black patch pocket to add some detail?

21:49 Hi Again Cath, your videos always inspire me. Thank you for introducing me to Higgs and Higgs and in particular the faux angora cable knit you have in your stash. I ordered 2 metres with a view to making a sweater dress. I hope you don’t mind me picking your brains but you are an expert on indie patterns and knit fabric combinations 😁On receipt of my cable knit I realised that the cable runs horizontally and the stretch is greater that way. It is also more drapy than I expected although I do love it. I have the Nina Lee Southbank dress pattern but I’m wondering if that would however be a good combo given the characteristics of the fabric? Can you suggest a more suitable sweater dress pattern? Many Thanks Chrissy. 😊

Wow, you have a seriously ‘disciplined’ stash. Good on you. I think the ‘granny square’ cotton would look good in a sleeveless, shirt style top. The Mave skirt sounds perfect for the Joni stripe fabric. Maybe a pinafore style dress for your final check fabric would work. Something that you could put the other knit tops underneath? Good luck!

Hi Cath The first fabric could be a nice top like the drop sleeve top by The Avid Seamstress. It's a free pattern although you can pay £5 and they'll print it for you and send you printed instructions. Edited to add that I'd make the ribbed fabric into the Freya or another faux turtle neck top. As for fabric stash, I currently have 3 fabrics which I bought with patterns in mind. I also have a few scraps that are big enough to make garments with. I don't havr room for more and too much would stress me out. 😅

Peasant style blouse/shirt for granny square fabric if not the first pattern you already thought of. MIDI skirt or wide leg trousers for Joni fabric. I hear sleeves are a bit tight on LB Pullover. Agnes or Freya for the cream rib knit made into dress! Pinafore with green check. Happy sewing! Looking forward to seeing what you make!

I think the cream rib knit would look better with a lower neck as the high neck in that colour potentially is a magnet for makeup marks, so something not too close.

I second the idea of using the winter check as a pinafore. The cream ribbed fabric would also be a nice fitted mini pinafore. My stash is large and much of it accumulated when I was working. A lot of it is bra and corset material because that was an obsession for years.

Super video Cath. Here’s a few ideas maybe. The Joni fabric would be so lovely using your Ogden Cami hack maybe with a longer skirt. How about something totally different for fabric 6-the Tessuti Amara vest pattern. A really useful garment for autumn. And for fabric 7 (which is fabulous) how about the Chalk and Notch Fringe dress. Just a few ideas. Happy sewing

How about one of the Sewing Therapy top versions for the Joni print? The Tie (dress) top, for example. On her KZbin channel Sara also made a top version of a McCall's dress with a large frill on the front which would be so cool in the Joni, but not sure if you might find it a bit fussy to wear

Hi I like the Ogden cami or the top of the esti co-ord set for the first fabric. As for the fabric you want to make the maeve skirt I think that would be nice or a pencil skirt like created by Delia which is lined. As for the stretchy fabric your idea sounds great or The Melville Cardigan or vest by Leisl & Co. Or the Hoodie pattern by Tilly and the buttons. As for the last fabric I would go for a tunic type dress similar to the Hazel Pattern by Rosary Apparel. The fabric selection looks great.

Your commitment to a small stash is impressive! For the first fabric godmother fabric I would make the Donny top by FPC! I really love the LB Pullover pattern. It sews up really quickly and is super comfortable to wear. The last fabric would look great as a shirt dress (I think I probably commented that the last time you asked about it 😂). Maybe something like the Reeta from Named or the Matilda from Megan Neilsen?!

Re the Fabric Godmother fabric: I see it used as separate stripes: a) a border print on a midi-skirt; b) a continuous straight fold-back collar around the neckline and front of an open cardi-style topper in some derivative color; c) as the neckline ruffle on a Mexican-style (peasant?) blouse with the ecru viscose on the bodice section; d) one stripe would be a pretty long skinny scarf e) a stripe or two for the collar and cuffs on a shirt, perhaps of blue denim-colored tensel. I think those wide stripes are beautiful but difficult to turn into most normal garments. I'll be watching for what you decide to do...I'm sure it will be creative and suit! Thanks for all the inspiration.

Some gorgeous fabrics there. How lovely to have them there ready to sew. I've just made the LB Pullover and I love it. I made it a couple of weeks ago when the weather was changing hourly. I think it took me about half an hour to make and it's really comfy. Of course since I made it the weather has changed so I haven't worn it but I'm happy it's there waiting for autumn. As for my stash - I can't claim any kind of plan - it's mainly see fabric I love, buy it and then try to decide what to make with it. I've had to start a fabric ban as quantity of fabric exceeds space to store it. But I'm gradually whittling it down. Wish me luck 😅

Hi Cath, lovely fabrics, I wish I could be as disciplined as you are with my stash, I am overwhelmed with mine. I think I have a fabric addiction 🤦‍♀️. I have been meaning to sew the French Navy Forsyth dress with the sleeve extension. I think this dress would look brilliant in last fabric, you showed us, the checked tencel twill. I have at least 3 possibles in my stash so you’ve got me inspired. Watch this space. 😅xx

Hi Kath. I know the feeling. I am often indecisive about my stash, too. I have a much larger stash, so really, I should be able to just grab something and make it up, but I always worry that I will mess it up or it won't fit right and then I won't have the lovely fabric any more. I have been doing better though with making them up. Here are my thoughts of what to make, for what it's worth, lol. I think the granny square / tile fabric could also be a Naya tee or Donny shirt if you like those styles, but I also think that you should probably stick to things for the most part that you already like for the fabrics, as I think it would likely be easier for you to commit to. So likely the Cuff top would be best from that fabric, snd it looks really cute on you. The cream floral Fabric Godmother print would likely be most versatile as another skirt like the one you are wearing. The cream viscose challis would of course be great to use one of, as a lining for the skirt, and the other could be an oversized button up shirt (playing devil's advocate here, since that wasn't an option you came up with, but they are really versatile.) For the black sweater knit, I would choose the LB pullover, just watching your face as you said your options. And finally, the cream ribbed fabric, I will go off a bit with my idea of making something you already like that you have made and wear, and say go with the Nikko top. I think you would really like it, and the style would suit you. As for your green fabric, I have similar fabric as a shirt dress, and I love it.

I think a midi skirt for the FG Joni fabric. You mentioned how much you've been wearing skirts and t-shirts lately, and there is so much of that in-between-y weather here in the UK that I think you'll get more wear out of a skirt than a summery dress. Plus, with a skirt, you can wear all sorts of colours pulled from the pattern on your top half, making it more versatile.
