I suffered from hormonal acne all through my 30s and early 40s. It sucks. I found a great aesthetician who gave me great advice to start: clean pillow case every night(think about if you left your hair products on for a week.., yuk). I also stopped using fabric softener. These sound silly, but game changers. Hope it helps!

Also try to avoid talking on your phone (f.e. use headphones etc.) It has germs on it and warms up. It is harder to get rid of acne because of that.

Hi Amanda, I love your content! I’m 63 years young so certain makeup products are not appropriate on mature skin. However, I did purchase the Haus of Labs’ pan blush in the shade Watermelon. I love it! It really brightens up my face and compliments red lips beautifully! Regarding your hormonal breakouts, I started having it in my mid 50s. My dermatologist diagnosed me with cystic acne and prescribed Tretinoin. It works and my skin improved significantly! I wish I would have used Tretinoin sooner as I have only discovered the benefits of this “Gold Standard” skincare! Have a great weekend!

I’m so glad you discussed using a toner as primer OVER sunscreen! I’m always so confused when people use these skincare products as makeup bases without discussing if it disrupts their spf. I’m like, are these influencers just not leaving their house and thus not wearing sunscreen in their videos?!

It works if you have dry skin! And depending on the type of sunscreen of course. For me the beauty of joseon spf has been a wonderful makeup base, i just need 10 min for it to sink into the skin (time in which i drink my coffee)
@melissatranfield40544 ай бұрын
I'm a bit confused by this though as according to dermatologists sunscreen should be the final step in your skincare routine, and primer, makeup etc should be applied over the top? You can always use a sunscreen spray or stick to top up during the day and also limit sun exposure.

I had really bad cystic acne almost solely around my mouth for a while and finally got prescribed oral spironolactone and tretinoin. The spironolactone did mess up my cycle for a month or so but your body adjusts and it went back to normal for me. I’ve been on them both for a few years now and rarely breakout anymore. Also, thanks for the video! I love this look 💕🧸

I started my daughter on Tretinoin. She was getting mild hormonal acne and I’ve used tret for years. So I started her on a.25 and she went through the purge of the dryness but it cured her hormonal acne in a matter of a couple of weeks ish, maybe up to a month at the most. She’s a user now of tret and it’s even helped her finer lines a little. She’s young still but she’s happy with how her skin is finally. It’s made a big difference and now she has glowing fresh skin. She’s been using it for about a year now. It took about 4-6 months to get that glowing skin but she would never go back now!

Amanda, you asked about hormonal acne. I feel your pain. My worst HA was between 30-35 years of age. I tried everything under the sun and literally cried in front of the mirror 😢. What helped me really well were two things. One was avoiding dairy products. Second was glycolic acid- the one in a bottle that you can use at home- it tingles on the skin and you wash it off with cool water. I had glycolic treatments done by an esthetician as well. It cleared any zits, cystic acne, inflammation, and post acne marks. Sending love and hugs your way 💖 🤗

Yes 👏🏻 dairy was the cause of my problem too. My doctor said it’s quite common to develop a dairy allergy or sensitivity later in life.
@isabelw.56662 ай бұрын
I second the dairy and, sadly, sugar. Very little of it is okay, especially with care during the week before our monthy emotional torture.😅 The one thing that is an absolute MUST though: do not pick at it. If I pick at my hormonal acne, it turns into a nightmare. Don't touch it. Maybe some pimple patches or a salicyic acid mask from the ordinary on the spot only. But absolutely no picking. 😅 Life-changer.

Hi Amanda, idk if this will help but the acne you have is very likely to be perioral dermatitis which sometimes hormones can take a play. You can ask a dermatologist (or family doctors can do it too!), and usually they prescribe antibiotic (oral) but there might be some topical options available.Topical spironolactone is available too. From what I've gathered, for non-medicated routes you can try Hypochlorous acid toners/spray. If you have the tower28 that's a good one (other brands are available too) and soak a thin cotton pad and do a mini mask on the chin leave it on for 10 mins or however long you'd like. Do it as often as you'd like it will help with the bacterial overgrowth. Final option is switching out toothpaste, to a non-mint flavoured or non-fluoride paste (brush teeth first then wash face). And personal anecdote, I've found I breakout on my chin when my gut is not doing well (bloated and not regular) so make sure to take care of yourself with the food you eat. Hope it helps!
@pixi783 ай бұрын
Yes to the hypochlorous acid! It’s very gentle on inflamed skin. Personally I found that dairy was causing my skin issues so I switched to almond milk and keep other dairy like cheese & cream to a minimum.

Acne never stops for me, at 60+ mainly body acne now. I was in a bad age group with Tretinoin, in the early 90s only super severe acne people could get a prescription, and it was $10k out of pocket, insurance didn't cover it. Then the gov banned it for some years. I have a number of products that work instead. 1-2x per week, benzoyl peroxide 5% cream rubbed into the skin at night, the key is rubbed in, not just dabbed on zits, the effect is cumulative over time. 2x per week a BHA toner patted on, like Paula's Choice, or Glow Recipe toner, or a drugstore toner with salicylic acid. Again, these peoducts are cumulative, using them regularly over weeks clear out oil clogs that form acne cysts. This all works pretty well, but I would still do tretinoin if younger, my cysts now take months to get rid of without a menstrual cycle to push them along. I take spironolactone as a diuretic for high BP, but it doesn't do much for cystic acne.

I used to break out a lot on my chin/upper lip until I figured out my toothpaste was the culprit! Highly recommend double rinsing your toothpaste off your face, I believe the sulphate or some component in it- irritates your skin (breaching your skin barrier/making you more prone to break outs in that specific area). Edit: typo/correction (thank you to the person bellow :>)

Tretinoin cleared my hormonal acne. I purged a lot but got through it. Started on .25 work my way up to .50 every day. Now I’m starting 1% . So worth it but must have LOTS of patients. I also use Cerave SA WASH 3 times a week. Let it sit for 3 minutes then rinse. I was on oral birth control at your age and that helped me as well. But when I turned 40 I had t get off it and it all came back.Thus my journey to Tretinoin. I restock my makeup bag every week, every other week. I rotate my makeup so I use it all.

Amanda! I have the same sort of inflammation as what you have, my diagnoses are perioral dermatitis, rosacea and seb derm, due to mostly systemic issues, i also have pcos. I can't recommend enough the cleansing balm by malezia, it has 1% salicylic acid, I use it every other day, and it has been amazing at reducing inflammation, I'm taking pimples that have been on my face for months and that wouldn't budge! I got the pilot version which is 50% off and it works just as good! If you can also get your hands on myoinositol dchiro supplements (as your dr) that has also helped but more so to regulate hormones. The cleansing tho, is freaking amazing, I can't recommend it enough. It also takes off all of my spf!

I've always loved Tower 28 blushes, so I count those, too. Wondering if this is a video idea you'd be into? I tend to purchase on the lower price point at Sephora and at the drugstore. Personally, I tend to stick with around 5-6 products total on my face (a putty primer to fill in pores, blush, something on the eyes, mascara, sometimes a clear brow gel, then lip liner and whatever else on top. Lately, it's a Rhode lip peptide dupe I found at Shoppers).

This is exactly the type of breakouts I get. I swear by azelaic acid. Traditional acne fighters like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide never could tackle it. And my skin was just too sensitive for tretinoin. I use 15% azelaic Rx now but started with OTC 10% (Paula’s Choice) and it was such an improvement. One other side note is that if you take a bovine collagen supplement I have found those to exacerbate the situation. (I am trying marine collagen right now, combined with twice a day azelaic acid, and 🤞🏻.)

Focusing on my gut was the only thing that helped me with my acne. And not too many actives at one time. Focus on 1 or 2 that help you the most. Mine are Retinol/Retinal and Vitamin C, once a week a gentle exfoliation with Mandelic Acid. Too much exfoliation can also worsen the acne. I had mine for years at the same place, always on my chin.

I think for your hormonal acne, staying away from any kind of pharmaceutical medication is the best option, as those can be endocrine disrupters and we need to use more natural ingredients such as tea tree or willbark extract. I think look into these ingredients and sulfur to get rid of any current acne. I am also on this transition where I use to use panoyxl every single day and now realizing that it is messing with my hormones with PCOs. ):
