I fully agree that if they go forward with $40 then they are going to be compared directly to Concord even more. And it’ll be an uphill battle. Especially if it’s another hero shooter, even if they’re doing something unique. Battleborn couldn’t even shake Overwatch comparison and it wasn’t even a hero shooter, it was a MOBA in its MP, and it had a campaign with co-op that let you utilize MOBA style leveling for different ability builds. *If* it’s a really great game, they need to push it into people’s hands. Not just a free public beta will be enough if they want to charge money. Sony set a bad precedent with how they rolled back on Concord. People are going to be very wary buying another game by them for $40, if they just take it all down before a month has even passed just because it wasn’t financially what they wanted. Concord didn’t happen in a vacuum. But it should be interesting to see what happens.
@GoodBoyGoneDadАй бұрын
They gave everyone who bought Concord a refund, which is honestly a big deal. Sony has a history of offering everyone a refund when a game fails at launch or is too far off the advertised product. No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, Concord, etc. The way Sony handled Concord gave me the message that if Marathon fails, then it doesn't matter because Sony will refund your money. Although i no longer buy games since there's really no point with subscription services. Everything i want to play eventually ends up on either PS+ or Gamepass, so I'm able to play multiple games per month for considerably less money.

And it’s actually going to be really good. They have a public test from October 24-27th. Just remember that to realize just how delusional Bungie management was when it came to their time line. All of this being funded by a game that Bungie management knew was in a constant downward trajectory no matter what they did. The games are now canceled. Gumi Bears could be the best selling fighter game ever to exist and it won’t help bungie as it gone to a different studio. Their no evidence to suggest a new or more Destiny is gonna turn things around. And if Marathon fails to meet expectations they Bungie has nothing left. Wasn't the agreement that Destiny 2 was to be completely separate from Sony control, and that one - if not the - main reason for purchasing Bungie was for their "games as a service" expertise (which was supposedly why the Last of Us 2 got cancelled?). As far as Marathon goes, maybe they should test the waters with an open beta just to see how many people are actually really definitely interested 🙂

Helldivers 2 got lucky with it being meme'd to death and the community practically doing the marketing run for them. Plus the game isnt PvP, which for a "premium" game is a bonus because its much even harder on top of all that to convince most people to part with money on that scale for a live service game that costs that much up front. For this...idk. The fact that its premium and PvP focuses will put it at an even stronger disadvantage, especially if its really an extraction game. Its happened before, but those were by dedicated devs and studios that wanted it to succeed no matter what. Not big corps and investors who wanted their money and wanted it now.

All I have heard of or seen is concern, worry, panic, and a weird abstract trailer that explains nothing. I think the logo is out and they do have a Twitter but again it's just the same things. No one knows what this game is except a select few people. I am very concerned about this game and I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the worst PVP games anyone has ever played. I hope that's not the case though.

Forget the game mechanics, talk to me about what skins and loot can I purchase? Is there some kind of storefront I can peruse? 🤔

I really wish people would stop constantly comparing all these competitive live-service games to Helldivers 2 simply because of the price point. They are entirely different games, even genres. I and many of my friends got excited for Helldivers 2 because we knew it could be played solo or in PVE coop. Neither of which you can do in Concord or Marathon. The point that both apparently cost the same at launch is absolutely meaningless since they don't aim for the same audience 🙄 A roll of toilet paper doesn't suddenly become a car just because someone puts it up for sale for the price of a Porsche.

I remember seeing the first trailer when it was announced and I was initially really excited, but now I feel like it’s building up to a massive disappointment.

I do feel like people are heavily underestimating the influence of GTA6, I still remember when GTA5 released back in the day, and it was insane. GTA6 WILL affect other games and it will affect them for a good long while. It's going to put the entire gaming landscape in a chokehold for like 6-7 months, much like how Elden Ring did, but ever more severe.

More like a few moths as there were quite a lot of games that did very well in 2022, but boot lickers decided it was inconvenient to their narrative to talk about that.

The only reason I have even a sliver of a chance of interest in Marathon is strictly because of how visually appealing it looks, and much of that is from Destiny. After hearing how they are thinking of doing a $40 price tag in a market where most live-service games of this style are F2P...How do you compete with that after the catastrophic flop of Concord? lol

I just wish Marathon would have a really deep single player.

Nah i got no faith in Bungie after how much they have mismanaged Destiny 2. Although I did enjoy my time with D2, I can't put any more faith that Bungie will do the right thing with another IP when D2 is failing & its right in front of them.

I guess it depends all on the angle of the game when it comes to charging. If the game is trying to be an online game with more single player elements or PVE focused they could possibly get away with charging for the game. I say if they have to charge go the lower route of $10-20 or maybe have a founder's edition that gets you extra in game content, first battle pass etc. Again, it really depends on how the game is marketed and the gameplay. Concord failed because it wasn't marketed well, didn't do anything unique, had bland characters and was trying to charge for access. Of course it's going to have a hard time finding success. Time will tell.

It wouldnt honestly be funny if GTA6 caused literally other game to just not release in 2025 out of fear of low sales. Though personally, I've never been big on GTA, but I respect it and acknowledge its accomplishments.

Almost certain will be passing on Marathon. I have Dota 2, CS2 (if ever gets updated), Valorant (because valve refuses to update cs), Deadlock, Space Marine 2. I'm so over multiplayer games.

Why is everyone so confident in GTA6 being good? They could just as easily go the way of Saints Row and fk it all up.

the fact were getting a marathon in 2025 with NO SINGLE PLAYER is a travesty. its just all online multiplayer… it better be good.

If i understand correct from what they show (maybe i'm wrong), Marathon is not hero shooter. It's something like "Tarkov", escape shooter. But, tarkov fans love gun customisation and "realism". I'm pretty sure they don't want play in sci-fi, only because it the same as tarkov but sci-fi. So question is, who is the target audience?)

There needs to be a new solution when it comes to f2p or paid release. Why haven they tried the afterpay aproach. Imagine a system that allows you to jump in on day 1 for $10 but cuts access to content after 1 month unless you keep paying the subscription fee until you fully pay off the title in 4 months for a total of $40 At the same time people who paid the full $40 could get bonus in game content in the form of skins and what not. Then when they do a new seasonal release they could just add to this payment plan model and have different pay tiers. Why does shit always have to be so black and white.

Bungie is horrible at balancing PvP and managing PvP. They can't even get it right in D2. I have zero faith in their ability to it in a new game.
@Slomoshun4uАй бұрын
I don't think $40 had much to do with Concords failure. Look at the open beta and day one numbers of the game. Even when it was free nobody cared about it. It's design, mechanics and the devs attacking fans had everything to do with it though. THAT SAID... I do think 1.5yrs of people bringing up the $40 cost as a negative for Marathon will directly impact its sales. Nobody was talking about the cost of Concord until they started talking about it's failure. There's a psychological impact that will happen that will make the $40 cost a problem for Marathon where if Concord never released and the cost wasn't discussed it would be a non-issue.
@TorqueBowАй бұрын
i think not having even a barebones character creator for Marathon is already damaging the game as it is. I don't think people want hero shooters anymore

My biggest issue with having Heroes is that tends to mean that there's always balancing issues with the characters and causes issues with the enjoyment of the game
