Because the men are required to shave their hair.

Eric, if you Google search actually, they changed the hair policy because the bun in the back was causing the helmets of female soldiers to cover their eyes while shooting. Also, in a combat scenario it would take too much time to maintain. Although in my opinion female Marines are more attractive with the original style, the change was made for logical reasons.
