Hey guys, two corrections (thanks for the comments): The read sight apparently is metal. Second, the rifling is 6 groove and not the original micro groove.
@robertfree1908 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the great video. And thank you for the correction. I was like “micro groove?”….”PLASTIC REAR SIGHT LEAF?!” I didn’t see either of those on my new 94 44. And I also like the distinction of the 18” on the 357 vs the 20” on the 44. The model 39M in 22lr I had came equipped with a 20” lighter contoured(as opposed the the heavier octagonal) round bbl. I really like the way the 20” handles. But I can also appreciate the handiness of a 16-18” lever gun. If you have any influence at all in the gun community I ask you, please let Marlin(Ruger) know that a 39M in 22lr and an M444 in 444 Marlin are highly desirable Marlin Models. Thank you for everything that you do. I’ve been a sub for a couple of years now and haven’t been disappointed

I bought a 1894 Winchester in 44 mag brand new in 1987. I shot at least 3000 rounds through it and killed every kind of game out there. I could never part with it. I had an original Marlin gold trigger modle 336 in 30-30 made in 1972 and it was as smooth as butter. I loved that rifle too, but traded it, and regretted it since. I bought a new Marlin 1885 Limited in 45- 70 back in 1994 with a 24" octagon Ballard cut barrel for cowboy action shooting that I still have. Very nice rifle too, and always wanted to take an Elk with it. I can still remember in 1984 when I was still in college, a local gun shop had a 1894 Marlin in 357 for $250, in great shape. I was poor and couldn't afford it. Always regretted not borrowing the money from grampa and just going ahead and buying it so mom wouldn't find out. ( Grampa was her dad and would keep it secret). Lovely looking rifle glad to see marlin getting back to quality work! The reason people had issues with cast lead bullets with the micro groove barrels were they were using undersized bullets for the barrel. Not allowing the grooves to get a good bite into the bullet to stabilize them. This would also allow gasses to travel past the bullets and cause extreme leading of the barrels in short order.

You can plink with cast bullets at around 900-1000 fps 38, move up to hard hitting 357 loads. Can pair it with anything from a 38 to a 357 revolver to share same ammo. Both the ammo and rifle will be unrestricted for the foreseeable future, and a lever rifle is pretty much legal everywhere. It traveling interstate in an RV , would leave handgun home, take a 16-18 12/ 357 lever rifle , avoid jhp if passing through NJ, a pump 12 gauge shotgun, and a 22 rifle, either a lever or Ruger 10/22 stock configuration , that’s my story and I’m sticking to it

The only issue I've had (and the reason for the comment) was a vertical screw walking loose on the underside of the receiver ahead of the lever pivot screw...something to do with the shell catch. If (when) it comes loose, less than even a full turn loose, it locks up the action by releasing multiple shells at once. As the victim company begins dying, it is leveraged to the hilt and offered for sale. If this fails, bankruptcy liquidation ensues. The principals and shareholders of the holding company waddle off with pockets full of cash, leaving another destroyed manufacturer in their wake. I believe Cerberus was the culprit in the downfall of Remington. They almost destroyed Chrysler too.

What I really hope is that Ruger/Marlin produces a budget model with a polymer stock that doesn't require so much hand-fitting. Mossberg tried but failed miserably. But if Ruger could pull that off, they'd sell millions of them. I own AR's and AK's, but by far my favorite gun to shoot is my Rossi R-92 .38/.357 1892 lever gun with a 16" barrel. It's just such a handy little carbine that simply "feels right" in my hands with perfect balance. A good lever gun feels like an extension of your body. I went with Rossi because they are more affordable, but still very high quality. But if Marlin makes a budget minded "tactical" version in a polymer stock and with a threaded barrel, (on par with Rossi prices) I'd pick up one of those in a heart-beat.

I really wanted the gorgeously finished Henry Big Boy, but I had to be more practical -- that is, I wanted one for home defense, needed a threaded barrel, and bought the X model. I don't regret purchasing it, as it fits my needs. But I miss the gorgeous finish. I'd like to get the Marlin 1894, but it is even more expensive than the Henry!

Got one a couple months ago. Put a skinner express rearand a bear buster front sights on it. With a simply rugged alaskan sling and cartridge carrier. Perfect.

Just picked up a stainless Ruger Marlin SBL in 357 and it’s everything I want, especially the ghost ring rear and fiber optic/tritium front sights. Stainless and gray laminate stock are very beautiful too. Roughly $1250 in PA

I've been wanting a 18-20 inch 357 lever gun for a while. If/when I get one I'll have to fit it with a leather sling, leather cheek rest/bullet holder, and (maybe) the leather straps/frills on the lever loop.

Great video for a .357 great rifle. I have been evaluating the Winchester, Marlin, Rossi and Henry. I first hunted with a classic Winchester 30-30 as a boy. I am very excited about Ruger bringing back the Marlin better than ever. Older now my eyes need a scope and the Marlin is the best choice for a scope and it is American made and maintained the classic bluing and Walnut finish. I am buying a .357 Ruger Pistol. Where do I get the .357 Marlin?

Good to see it back with Ruger, got an original JM version in the 80s, paired it with a Colt SAA clone in same 38/357. Fun to shoot.

I have a Remlin….and it went back to the factory 3 times…now it works fine….but I was so happy when Ruger got the Marlin brand. I love my henrys and thought nobody would out do them…but these new Marlins are FREAKING SWEET.

I have a Remlin 336 in 30-30. I've never had to send it back. It works and is accurate, but I will say the fit and finish wasn't good. The wood to metal fit was bad and you could feel the edges of the wood. I said screw it and just bought some black synthetic furniture for it which actually fits better than the stock wood and just left it like that. Not the best looking gun, but she runs at least. These new ones look sooooo good though. Too bad the price is a bit high in my opinion.

@@camaro25 yeah i put mine in some Boyd’s furniture and it looks great now. Oh and never a accuracy problem. Just ejection or failure to feed, parts broke etc. thankfully all under warranty.

More likely to find a real Marlin in my local pond than find one of these in my local gun shop!

Found one and honestly, not terribly impressed. Hard to load, the trigger is not that great. Comparing it to a Henry 357 mag . Not saying it is not a good rifle I just had higher expectations.

Thank god they put straight grip on it.

🇦🇺😎👍Hey mate I own a Remlin in the 1894 38 /357 mag ( bout 6ish years old now ) My opinion is it has a beautiful finish and fitment of wood etc but the trigger is about a 35 kg pull , yank or tap with a hammer. Loading the 38 special rds is a bit of a task sometimes as they seem to catch inside. . Apparently they sell a trigger kit and mag kit to solve the issues. Beautiful gun though. Would I sell it ? No ! I bet the Ruger made model would be a bit better though .. lol , I cheated , I put a 3x9x40 Leupold scope on mine. Great video

I guess ill wait till they make a threaded barrel version. I was just holding a rossi this morning but the quality is less than desirable.

Thanks for the review. It’s definitely nice. I have a hard time buying one with a perfectly good Rossi 92 .357/.38 I bought for around 500. Not much pride of ownership, but she works.

hoping they add pistol/shotgun stock versions with laminate furniture soon-ish, wouldn't mind a higher polish finish blued/dlc coated finish either

Tim, Great video. I have one of the marlin rifles from the 1960's I did have a large loop put on it. I will wait until the price comes down a bit for the 357.

Ruger is my favorite manufacturer. They always do an excellent job of whatever they put their mind to. Im very happy they picked up the marlin brand. A 357 stainless trapper and likely a 45-70 of the same will be in my locker at some point. Pretty excited about the henry ar mag fed levers too.
