I've got a 2020 A45S and I think some things are a step back on this face-lift. Doing away with the touch pad was a mistake, it's really handy to swipe between tracks and navigating the menus, as you have more control over the touch buttons on the steering wheel, and you don't have to get the screen covered in finger prints. But the option is still there to use the touch screen if you want. What do we get now on the face lift instead? A tiny coin tray 🙄, how is that a step forward? The headlights, personally I prefer the old tick style ones, rather than just a line at the top. Couldn’t get anymore basic looking than just a line! At least the tick give it a bit of character. The tail lights, again the old version looks much better to me with the ring of light, instead of just a simple line. Just these 3 things alone make the old version feel and look more like the face lift. It's like Mercedes got it the wrong way around. Not that I'm complaining 😅

You should try driving in Eco mode but configured as the custom setting, the regenarative process is shocking! It jerks violently when you slow the car down and bring it to a stop. The MBUX is shockingly bad to use, they've buried menus under menus, under further menus and you're expected to use your fingers to operate them. The previous gen MBUX was far better to use in conjunction with the touchpad, but the new one, not so!
@XclusiveAaron Жыл бұрын
8:06 - the last gen was the same. I had an A220 for years and loved it but there was always this like "half a second" delay on the throttle pedal pulling away, not usually an issue but you notice it at roundabouts and stuff (although weirdly you get used to it and forget it was even a thing). Strange, most people wouldn't understand unless they have driven or owned one but that jerkyness is part of that, it's never fully fully smooth pulling away and if you press the throttle a bit harder to try and counteract that "delay" you just end up almost wheel spinning. I'm making it sound worse tha it is so it's easy to understand what I mean but it's definitely there and it's definitely annoying, I'm sure others reading this will know what I mean!

The engine and gearbox is another thing. I dont like it when it stays on the smaller gears for longer when driving in town which is something that I do for 90% of the time behind the wheel. Then when it finally changes gear the motor keeps the revs high up just as im coming to a standstill on lights or intersection. Really annoying. The 2023 Mercedes A-Class that I drive (along with many others!) has a fundamental flaw with the rear camera flap. When the car slows to under 15mph the rear camera flap opens (sounding like the central locking system engaging), it closes again when it reaches 20mph. The problem is, it continues to do this for the duration of the drive unless you can drive between 15mph and 20mph in straight line for around about 200 metres (I kid you not). It does this EVERY TIME you start the car. A number of disgruntled A Class drivers have taken their cars to the service depot assuming this is a fault, but sadly Mercedes say this is how the car should function. If you're happy to drive a car that has the noise of a central locking engaging every time you accelerate and decelerate then you'll be fine...but I'm yet to meet anyone that can tolerate this!

you realise the renault engines are the most reliable and efficient mercs. my a class w177 diesel gets 65mpg and has zero issues. renault K9K engine is really great. doesn't break. non amg is also more comfortable over bumps on the road. whos winning now.

Its crazy how dated this car looks in only a couple of years since its release....The industry just quickly jumped forward so much, with the designs a=from the Audi RS3 and the BMW M2, that this car's design got left behind...Fully aware this is not the full A45 banana, but it probably wouldn't look too different from this

what drugs are you on? this is the 4th gen a-class which released in 2018, and almost 5 years later it matches the merc lineup perfectly IF ITS SPECCED RIGHT. (it feels like a mini s-class)

When a Honda Civic is an alternative at ( according to this ) £30k plus something isn't right. The lower powered models of this in certain specs should be sub £30k cars and unless the Civic is a Type R no one should be paying more than £30k for it unless they are a massive fan

@robsmall6466 Жыл бұрын
@@Mark-zb6oh Both are too expensive for what they are. If working with Renault creates a budget entry Mercedes I don't essentially mind that although it would be better if it was Mercedes engineered 100% and that would justify the "premium" price tag a little bit. “They’ve gotten rid of the old basic halogen beams” On the previous model, only the entry level model came with halogen headlights. All other trims were given LEDs, so this isn’t exactly a new feature on the facelift model.

The exposed metal door frames really annoy me on a car this expensive. I know you won't see them driving it, but just look at that rear cabin shot as Rory is driving it. BMW would cover this in a 1 series with plastic capping. That's the sort of cost-cutting that makes you wonder what else have they scrimped on that you can't see?

My current A class is the same, wish they have tuned the starter motor, it’s very jerky at low speed- A200 that is, hard to pull of smoothly

No way would I buy another one. I had a 69 plate A35 Saloon from new. The MBUX screens failed and went completely black, £1100 fix but done under warranty luckily, wasn’t even a year old. Got told the screens come from Romania - nice. Interior switches fell off like they were stuck on with pritt stick. Overall the car looked awesome and drove like stink and stuck like it was on rails, BUT the build quality is NO WHERE NEAR previous Mercedes or rivals like Audi or BMW. I was very unimpressed by the build quality. Was happy to sell it on for a hugely inflated price during COVID lockdown when Merc couldn’t get any saloons for customers so I moved it on after 2 years. I’m not in a BMW M135i which is built far better, and it’s the proper M135i with 6 cylinders and a 3.0 up front. Rear wheel drive too, great fun and full of character.
@snbala Жыл бұрын
Those front vents on the bumper, who signed that off? Have they sorted the build quality yet? As it’s shocking on the current one. If I wanted a mid size hatchback, it would not be this one, it would be the BMW 1 series.

@@Max10294 tons better quality on a BMW, you clearly haven’t had experience with one to comment like that. You give the heater control panel on the A class a wiggle and see how much it moves, shocking for a 30K+ car.

@@MaticTheProto if you think that’s acceptable from a ‘premium’ brand then that’s you, for me that was disappointing. Even a Citroen doesn’t have that movement. It’s other things on the interior too. An A class is nothing amazing, not great to drive either. Just an expensive Renault Megane.

I had the original / first A45 and quite liked the styling… they’ve not really advanced it much externally and unless you go AMG / AMG line it looks like a bit of an older generations car - and they brought it out for the younger generations to get them into the brand… .
@8180lebois Жыл бұрын
If you want to have a laugh, close the door on an A-Class or jiggle the interior like Rory did. Maybe I’m just used to C’s and E’s, maybe I’m old, but, no. A-Class, in my humble opinion is not “The Best or Nothing” in its class. Maybe if you’re newly coming into the brand? But at the price and running costs, there are a lot of other options out there.
@SDav21 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. The build and material quality is disgusting. Unacceptable. But to be honest it is the same with all their new cars. Many owners of the new C Class have rattles already and the material and build quality isn't that great. The worst is the GLE and GLS SUVs. Their build quality is shockingly bad. The SUVs from China from carmakers like Haval and Chery have better build quality. Mercedes is just a shell of the brand it used to be. It is the new Mercedes CEO's playground for how to make shareholders money by cutting costs. He will sink this brand.
