Hi dragon ! --- bro you need to learn some basic chemistry - is something you inhale all day ! - also you fucked up that coin real bad ! :)))
@jamesbuccigross692016 күн бұрын
I just ran across this video and I'll add something for that particular coin - during the particular time period when it was minted, the US mint was having difficulty obtaining a higher grade of copper for large cents and half cents. In other words, the metal as received had a great deal of contaminants in it, not being as pure as it should have been, but this was all they could obtain during that time period, perhaps due to faulty smelting by the supplier. Anyway, the copper coins minted during the 18-teens almost always look rough, regardless of grade because not only did the contaminants in the metal cause more reactivity with the various substances that they came into contact with, and this would especially be true for those coins that became buried in the ground, but also did not strike as well and you rarely come across coins struck during those years in the higher grades. Pitting is quite common. Your comment about soil Ph is particularly relevant for such coins.

I'm not much of a coin collector, but you should clean the coin first with isopropal alcohol to remove any oil (like from touching it) and when you let the object soak, do it in a dark place. Hydrogen Peroxide decomposes when exposed to light (that's what those bubbles are) and it is getting weaker; that's why Hydrogen Peroxide is stored in opaque bottles.
@sourcreamking3 жыл бұрын
HOT TIP: After cleaning the coin with Hydrogen Peroxide, leave it to soak in WD-40 for about 12 hours, then seal it with microcrystalline wax. The HP will eat away at all the organic matter, and the WD-40 will creep into all the pores of the metal and stop further corrosion. The wax gives an extra layer of protection and luster.

It works! I had 3 wheats I soaked for about 30 hrs.( since I forgot they were in the solution), I could not get a date off them before soaking. After a light toothbrushing and the 30 hour soak I now can easily make out they are '41,'42, and '44. Sadly no '43. Thanks for the great tip and please keep up the good work. We appreciate you.

I put the peroxide in a plastic container and heat it in the microwave for about a minute until it is slightly smoking. Put the coin in and watch it fiz until the peroxide cools down and check it. This has worked well for me in the past for large cents and brought back a few I thought were toast.

Thanks for posting your videos I enjoy them. Hot peroxide is what are use microwave your peroxide for about a minute throw your copper coins in, heated peroxide accelerates the process. It really does work miracles. Now you’re coin has to have detail to begin with. After the hot peroxide process and some light circular rubbing with #000 extra fine steel wool, I dip my coins in meted candlewax rub them down leaving some wax on them. Hairdryer that for a shiny finish believe me it works if I could post pictures I’d show you before and after ‘s. I do this to all my large cents and British coppers FYI instead of expensive Andres pencils buy bamboo skewers and sharpen them in the pencil sharpener.

I've used peroxide for years on copper and bronze coins. It often works well at removing dirt, especially when the base metal of the coin is in tact. The only down side is that it will darken the patina.
@Osmiculture3 жыл бұрын
I use a 10% solution of bicarbonate of soda on bronze and copper coins, coin dipped for 3 to 10 mins according to ADHD levels, wiped with kitchen towel, tooth-picked, back in the bath, repeat until satisfied. The results will depend on where or if there's a solid patina at some layer in there. Short dips help to avoid accidentally taking out detail - over here in the Eurozone there are so many different types of coins that on the really corroded ones, we're often looking just to identify them from any small patina-steady detail.

Had great luck with the vinegar slush and a dash of peroxide on a Buffalo nickel...12 hours on each side and right back to silver color. Didn't help with the corrosion from living under ground, but very pleased with the results.

It does work. Best when slighly warm. I've floated a small glass bowl with some 2% H2O2 solution in a larger bowl of hot water. Dropped button in the H202 bowl. Design finally came out. Do not do this on guilt buttons it will eat up the coating.

This is interesting. I guess while you are trying to clean your coin you also have to find something that will not mess up the metal of your coin, especially if you think you ever want to sell or auction it off, I heard some coin collectors say they used acetone, which I would have thought was too strong, but they said it was great and was never even detected when having their coins graded. If you try it, do it on a coin you don't mind messing up first. I have used it on quarters, letting them sit in the solution overnight, washing off with water then drying with a very soft towel. I am brand new to all of this so I am looking for answers as well.

I know what you mean by some soils preserve better. Here in Montana many of the the v nickels or buffalos can occasionally come out still silver in color. I've had wheat pennies come out a bright copper color like they were just dropped. I think heavily fertilized places like farmer's fields tend to destroy coins more. Neat tip.
