Join us in this video for a short circular walk near the Derbyshire High Peak town of New Mills. We start along the Peak Forest Canal just below Newtown station and head along to Furness Vale. Turning left for a short road section, we then pick up a path to the left to take us back into New Mills via the banks of the River Goyt. The most fascinating section of the walk passes through the old mills and viaducts of the Torrs Valley and is not to be missed! We climbed up into the town to finish our walk with a beer or two in the town's welcoming pubs.
Only a short walk, of under five miles, and a nice easy route.

Nice walk.. & nice too see you finish in the beer shed. Good choice..👍 That'll make a perfect early evening walk after work. Starting from New Mills Central. 😁👍

It's a nice little circuit. We were going to loop further up via Bugsworth, but the forecast was a bit lousy. Beer Shed was great, and the Mason's also had excellent beer and decent prices (although previous owner, Robinsons, seem to have done their usual vandalisation of the interior walls!) Cheers for watching & see you around👍☺

Hi Des and Maria- It’s great that you can get out camping in the van even when the weather is cool and rainy. Nice walk along the canal, in p some spots the rocks look pretty darn mossy 😄👌💚- similar to what we see in some places here. I enjoyed seeing the section by the old milks and near the train tracks. Looks like the rain stopped by the time you finished at the pub! 👌 See you again soon - Cheers, Jen

Hi Jen. We've found the new van is much easier to keep warm than the old one. Nice and cosy, even in that cold snap! I never tire of exploring that Torrs Valley. I love all the old industrial relics now that time has softened the edges a little. The rain had eased off towards the end, but we got to dry out in front of a nice open fire in the Masons👍☺🍻

Hi Des, a lovely winter walk. It looks very relaxing along the towpaths and plenty of industrial heritage along the way too.

A right park up of narrow boats and despite a grey day it is always nice to get out and blow those cobwebs away. This narrow gates will always find you lol and that rain had to make an appearance but a good excuse for an early visit the The Beer Shed and then a second visit to The Masons Arm, where it seemed to be a strong pint! Cheers Alan

Hi Alan. I'll let Maria know it was a narrow gate and not us still needing to shed those Xmas pounds! 😁 You'd have enjoyed the Masons...they had a real heavy metal vibe going on with the music! 🤘😎 ATB👍

It was great that the site was right next to the towpath. I thought the canal looked a bit frozen, but you confirmed it. I just love the old bridges/viaducts, amazing architecture Des. It definitely seemed to be one of my cold wet walks you were on there. That micro pub was very micro. Thanks for sharing, Des.

Hi Chris. It's a fascinating area down there. Well worth a look if you haven't already. I've been wanting to visit that little camp site for a while, as we do enjoy canals. So was high on my list when we joined the CMC recently! All the best & take care👍☺

Just love seeing all the canal boats. They are basically campers for the water. 😂😂. Wet and chilly walk but really pretty. Those free range chickens were hilarious; especially the one that came toward you looking like, 'I dare ya.' That brick bridge with the four tunnel looking effect was really interesting looking. Cute town. Man, that pub was narrow. 😂😂

Hi Bill & DeAnna. We love the narrowboats as well. I bet it must be tough living on one when the canal is iced up though! The tough guy cockerel guarding his harem tickled us too 😂 That pub was like a corridor with a bar! Great beer though! All the best & catch you soon👍☺

Hi Steve. We were planning to loop around via Whaley Bridge and Bugsworth, but cut it short with the weather. Swizzels mustn't have been cooking. No nice smells! The Torrs, Millennium Walkway and further along into the country park (Mousley Bottom?) is well worth a visit. All the best and catch you soon👍

Hi Bruce. Sorry for the slow response. I'm pretty sure quite a few people do live on those narrowboats. It's quite a popular option these days, but it must be a struggle in icy weather! Hope yourself & Otis are both keeping well👍☺

Hi Simon. Yes, we've not managed to get many walking trips in recently, for one reason or another. Fingers crossed we'll be out more now the new van is all sorted. Looking forward to spring, and dusting off the bivi bag too! 😁 I think Torr Vale Mill has so far escaped the usual apartment conversion. It has a bar/cafe and I think a few other small craft businesses in it. Hope all is well with you. Catch you soon👍☺
