Parade Orange I fought in that war and watched some of the best men in this world die over there. People like u complain about people like me but u don’t have the guts to do what I did but u still complain like u actually did something. Sadly I did it for unappreciative people like u but for for all those millions that enjoy Veterans Day and Memorial Day mean more to me than people like u. It’s ok, people like u spit through the fences as we arrived back home and before we could see our family but don’t worry, my family and friends wiped it away and showed me love and that more than u could ever do for someone else.

@@julierogers1155 Obviously it's open to interpretation. However, I've heard the term applied to our current president and I think given their political views they'd be lying if they said they weren't thinking of him as well when they wrote the song. The snippets of the video I saw for the song seem to be reflecting the current state affairs in the country, not only when Dubya was president.

Plus they won every award for their next album. Besides Rolling Stone Magazine did a big story on every other major artist from Maroon 5 to Alicia Keys, Pink, R.E.M.,Eminem, etc. all speaking out against Bush and the war. Thee were so many protest songs written and released it almost became a negative not to. Look at Neil Young and his "Let's Impeach The President" I think the whole Dixie Chicks thing lit a little match under everyone to not be afraid to speak up. I know people still hate 'em to death for that. Those people can just miss out on good music for being so narrow minded. To say they disagree is one thing. To throw big hissy fits and death threats and still to this day boycott them is just petty and dumb. I hoped they could've gotten over it by now..

Welcome back, ladies ( perfect post since today is International Women's Day too! ). While speaking one's mind is a deeply held American value, most American's forget that politics and music have been side by side since the Civil War. It doesn't matter if it's the Dixie Chicks or Frank Zappa or Marvin Gaye or Bob Dylan: If artists tell audiences the " emperor still doesn't have any clothes, " no matter the year or the timing, the result is that those artists do not have to apologize for it.
@MTknitter224 жыл бұрын
David McCain but David, then the artist pays the price if customers do not appreciate the politics. Nobody disputed Maines’ right to say what she did, but she then whined at her treatment. Her sisters paid a big price for her big mouth. Sometimes when you play the victim it doesnt work.
@eringaines4 жыл бұрын
Well said, David. So many of our most enduring artists have used their music as a platform for social justice-Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, and on and on.
@Jedizen074 жыл бұрын
@@eringaines I get that there will always be those who hate/despise/loathe/disagree with what artists say when it comes to " stirring the pot " involving politics. I truly understand it because it is part and parcel of the development for our country ( America is still only less than 300 years old compared to the Asian/European/Middle Eastern countries ). BUT, a review of history shows most people have regrets of not standing up to tyranny/stupidity/anarchy when the times were ripe to say/do something. Growth, with mistakes, are important. yes. But not nearly as dangerous as having regrets on keeping quiet.
