Do you have info on the brakes?
@itzjonah
@itzjonah Жыл бұрын
What info are you looking for? I have yet to have a good opportunity to dig into the condition of the brakes, although I know that the brake lines will need replaced. Also the master cylinder and the booster system will need replaced as well and I haven’t decided what route to go in replacing them.

@@itzjonahwas hoping you had some wisdom to impart on me. Was looking at a similar truck.

@@wkualum3194 I don’t yet unfortunately. When I do investigate then I’ll be sure to make a video on it. What I can recommend is to join Facebook groups pertaining to medium duty trucks, including Ford specific ones. I’ve found a lot of info in those groups, and there are plenty of knowledgeable people who are willing to answer questions.

@@itzjonah all the time ,I use it for my landscape business, mine is in really excellent shape, everything works ,all lights ,turn signals ,even the spotlight, mine is teal colored ,more of a flatbed with the dump ,great old trucks ,I add lead additive to the fuel ,right now I'm giving it its annual detail job and wax ,touch up paint etc.

@@louieysursa5996 I wondered if I needed to use lead additives. I don’t really want to but maybe until I swap the motor or at least upgrade the valve seats I may have to.

Why do you and others always start with a sparkplug when a coil fires every rotation??? Beats me that is always what people do. As for that solenoid, maybe you did an who knows but just a wire from the hot side of the solenoid to the post nearest the battery side of said solenoid will check if its the problem or needing one... thats after you have cleaned the connections everywhere. It appears you did find a dead coil alright, usually just the points not making a good connection. People toss in points and never just clean under the points themselves as its part of getting that ground for them to work... they are not blue point connections.... and If possible, mixed gas for the family lawnmower will be best for cranking up a engine thats sat a bit and needs a little more compression for the dry start from setting a minute or so. I am a mechanic of that era, started in 58 for dad in the shop, then the motor pool in the army... and after that continued as a mechanic in the southeast of alaska. Owned a few nice shops over the years as well. This is just to help you if you should try to start another rig similar situations

Thanks for the suggestion and thank you for checking the video out! We did jump power across the solenoid like you said, but only after trying another coil. I’ve fired a Bronco before that had been sitting and after a lot of trial and error we found the coil was dead. Since I knew my buddy had a good spare and was just down the road I tried that before properly diagnosing the no spark. I’ve checked for spark at the coil before but I usually like to pull a plug because it gives me a chance to see what at least one of the cylinders is doing, and also gauge how the timing looks, which I didn’t mention in the video. I like the mixed gas idea, I just like to use brake clean or starting fluid initially to see if it’ll even try to fire up. I know it’s not the best for the rings but I figure so long as I’m not starting it that way every time I should be okay, especially if I’ve turned it over with the coil unplugged to get oil cycling. That’s super cool that you’ve had shops in Alaska, I bet you run into unique rigs and different issues than we deal with down here in the balmy southeast!

Looks like it has done a lot of hauling over a period of years. I am glad to see both large trucks and buses being restored.They have played an important part in our lives. My late grandfather told me,when he was young,he owned a truck that had steel wheels but no rubber tires.This would have been in the early '20s,but the truck,was more like from the mid-teens I believe.

Oh man, that’s very cool. I’d love to tinker on a truck that old. Don’t know that I’d ever buy one, but never say never right?

I would guess that very old restorable trucks would be kinda expensive now. Not too many years ago there was little interest in them.
