New (old) gear - RMI Electra Piano 368x!

I had that piano back in the mid 70s time frame. If I remember right, there were potentiometers on each key for tuning it.

Yes, an oscillator per key! This one tuned up quite easily.

that’s a fantastic score Matt! This is the model that I have. I absolutely hate the way it’s shaped. It looks really futuristic and cool by itself, but you can’t stack anything on top of it!

I agree with the shape - it’s like they were following the trends of Rhodes and Wurlitzers with the round tops.

Rick Wakeman had one, as well. He ran his through a fuzz box, a Maestro, I believe. I don't think that his tone on "Catherine of Aragon" at the opening of his keyboard solo on 'Yessongs' is simply distortion. I always like the sound of the RMI's, but they were few and far between, even back in the day (I have played one that I can recall), and the build quality was said to be suspect. Yours look great !!!

Tony and Rick were my introduction to the RMI. My favorite use of the RMI is Allen Toussaint on Dr. John’s In The Right Place album.

@@mattthomasoverdrive4514I first heard the RMI Electra in Dream On by Aerosmith. According to the “Suitcase story” the Keyboard that Tyler bought with the money he found was an RMI but the model was never specified, I know RMI made other models but the Electra was their most popular one.

Yes, you can engage all the tabs and have each voice variation layered. I suppose it’s an additive synthesizer in that regard!

Beautiful! Just like the one I got.. but my keys are very yellow. Is this one lighter then the plywood 368?

My other 368 has yellow-ish keys. Look how white these are! It *may* be a little bit lighter, but not as drastically as I’d hoped.
