This was a late edition C64 but I actually preferred the look of this over the old style Commodore 16 / VIC 20 type case. Great memories - I remember us getting one out of a Kays catalogue or similar. Paid a premium for it but could pay it off over x months.

Mail order catalogues will always charge full recommended price...but not over for, the advantage of weekly payments. All catologues in the UK offer 20 week terms at no further cost, some catalogues offer free 40 week & 52 week terms on more expensive items Richard, G0OJF, UK

Interestingly enough that Sony TV you have, I have just given one of those to Jeremy who owns peak electronics, he's a retro gamer.
@ukfmcbradioservicingTango212 ай бұрын
I bought it brand new in the 90's solely to work on VCR's with. I was previously using a 14" Alba that I'd been given & sorted out for that purpose. One day a customer came in Christmas Eve afternoon asking if I'd a used portable colour TV for them to buy as a gift for someone. I hadn't....he said "what about that one in your workshop....it's a lovely picture"...so I sold it. The Sony is a non-text version & had to be specially ordered to save the £20 the text version cost more. As a Yorkshireman "It is Vane to do with more, that which can be done with less". I was half expecting you’d get a black screen! My 64Cs had their MOS 8701 clock generator ICs die in storage. Never did get round to sourcing a replacement….

Sure it wasn't the reference crystal that failed? Richard
@graemedavidson4992 ай бұрын
@@ukfmcbradioservicingTango21 Sadly it wasn’t the crystal. I swapped a known good IC into the machine and it worked. I put the bad IC into a working machine and it stopped working. Seems to be a relatively common failure. There are modern drop in PCB modules to replace the IC but can be expensive.

Ah, memories. I loved mine (original Vic 20/C16 shape). Wish I still had it.. I wonder how many monitors in Dixons/Laskys/Comet etc used to have "HELLO" (or usually something far more profane) scrolling up the screens on a Saturday afternoon once the kids had been dragged into town by parents..? 😉

Love it so if you bought this in the late 90's it was second hand as they were from the early 90's? theres so many who will say this is not new anymore as its been setup / used

As an electronics engineer, most NOS stuff no longer works. As I've owned this from new I gave it a quick check at the time..just like this. This is PDI testing which I do on eveything I sell. Argos sell you a box. I've always checked the product. I can assure you it was new from our wholesaler. Perhaps I bought it a little earlier than I remember....it was a time when my late Mother was terminally ill with Motor Neorone Disease, so this went staight in a cupboard. Richard, G0OJF, UK

The thing that kills computers like that is a leaky battery on the circuit board. Computers like that are very collectible.

There isn't a battery on the 64....there was one on the Amiga though. Richard
