I’m super late commenting this week. We had family over since Friday and I’ve been pretty busy. I felt the same thing with the furniture in my youngest’s room! She’s about to turn 13 and had gotten tired of the pink-and-unicorn explosion in her room. It took me forever to get around to it, but I primed it with a great no-sand primer, painted them white, changed out the knobs, and used some gilding wax to add interest. They came out beautiful and glamorous, and my total investment for the entire room was under $100! Also, please tell Payton that Sonic is super awesome, we all love Sonic in our home!

To update Peyton’s childhood furniture, you could change out the wooden knobs and paint the tops black to match his headboard and the picture frames.

I completely agree. Your finishes will coordinate better if you painted his furniture a darker color . Robin I bet you can do this by yourself as you are one capable woman . 💚If u are nervous maybe paint the back and see what you think . Of course not now because you are so busy but maybe down the line .

Oh ya you could paint it and it would match with new hardware.. I've done that before with really well made furniture of my kids. The new stuff just doesn't cut it , unless maybe it's really expensive but that's never been an option for me. But it looks great with a paint and hardware update

Love your progress! I have an idea for Peyton's furniture. Paint the cases black, and leave the drawers natural. I know, painting good furniture is scary lol. My husband was a finish carpenter, but even he agreed that a dresser I painted like this looked better. Love your videos!

Another great video! I have a tip for those who have deep closet shelves. Recently I went to find some pepto bismol and seen I had 2!, well that got me to thinking why not use a lazy susan to hold items like that and it works great. Now I can find my duplicates better 😅 and save money....

I think losing my walk in pantry would be the hardest thing I would have to adjust to if we downsized. That and a basement. My pantry is full and the basement holds the second freezer plus our long term storage for things like paper towels, toilet paper, detergent etc. But if you are committed to downsizing, you can make it work, right? I'm glad Peyton is adapting well. Best wishes for a great week!

Friendly tip with the nuts and seeds...after I decanter mine, I cut the Use-by label from the packet and stick it onto the container so I know the Use-by date (some things I buy just don't used up in the time frame!). Aldi is great..I get a lot of stuff that you have gotten like the nuts, sourdough bread, cheeses and even fruits and vegetables. Everything you do is wonderful! :) Peyton's room looks so nice now - it was very nice before too, but to me, the natural color of the wood looks softer, ligther and warmer than black-only furniture. The green touch is cool (and green is in fashion) but if you are tired of it maybe you could remove the paint to get natural wood knobs and top surfaces, matching the rest of the wood and giving it a cool scandi look, cheerful and timeless, which would highlight Peyton's favourite colorful frames on the walls. The same could be done with the bed, or if it stays black it'll match the chair and tv. But I am sure anything you decide will be perfect and your amazing son's preferences are what matter the most :)

You really had it organized good and everything looks so neat. I know it’s hard for you to get used to downsizing but you’ll be glad as time goes by.I think the furniture in Payton’s room looks good too. You’re really making a lot of progress. I just got home from church and was really glad that I made a dish yesterday and all I had to do was heat it up. I told you I’m on a real restrictive eating plan but this recipe was so good with ground turkey and a whole bunch of vegetables. It was seasoned really good and had just a tiny bit of cheese on the top. I’ve lost more weight and seem to be perking up a little bit. Nobody had to catch me this Sunday and I was able to get to the pew by myself. Ha ha love in Christ

Robin, thank you for inspiring me to become more organised! I have started using a marker pen to write the expiry date on the top of tins so that I can rotate stock without having to search for dates on every item. This only takes a few seconds when I unload my shopping. I guess you could write a note of contents on the top of lids too. That would mean that you could pack more closely in the drawers and still be able to see what you have instantly. Just a suggestion. It may not work for you.

Hi Robin! I love to see the progress with all the smaller details that are getting done in your new home. Little by little, you are getting organized and the final result is beautiful. I love the style you are giving to your new home! I love your new pantry, and I also prefer shallower shelves. In our house, the shelves are very deep, and indeed, things get lost and forgotten back there! 😨🤢 I imagine that Peyton must be happy to have all his furniture back in his room; it must feel more familiar to him, I suppose. What I’m trying to say is that while you were showing us the change you were making in his room, explaining your thoughts and how you agreed together on this change, I couldn’t help but think that maybe your son would prefer his old furniture rather than the more “adult-looking” furniture (which was beautiful, there is no doubt!!!) simply because of the fact that it would bring him a sense of security amidst the change. I dont usually comment, but my husband and I recently (6 mos ago) downsized from 3200 to 2100 Sq feet. I feel you with getting used to a smaller home, but we really love it. New viewer here, I absolutely love the work your husband did with the windows! We have similar trim in our home but not on all of the windows. It was priced out thousands of dollars to recreate the trim on our other windows. Silly question but how the heck do you learn this stuff?! Neither my husband or I are very handy but would like to save some money and learn to DIY, tips?

Welcome! We learn mostly by trial and error. 😂 KZbin is a great resource. There are thousands of videos on how to do just about anything or you can google most any topic and read about it on a blog. It has never been easier to learn new things - so you can absolutely recreate the window trim yourself for so much less. 👍😊🌻💙

One of my favorite Aldi items is the Belgian chocolate baking chunks. I use a mixture of semi sweet chocolate and dark chocolate when making my chocolate chip cookies. They have amazing chocolate for sure.

Loving the grocery hauls. It's so fun to see what you can buy in the US and what it costs. I live in Sweden (not Switzerland, I'm sure you are one of the few Americans who can tell the difference :P) and it's SO expensive with nuts here, but milk and cheese are really cheap, so it's fun to see the difference. Hi Robin, so satisfying to see your pantry!! I can hear it in your voice - getting settled (especially the kitchen) equals happiness and relaxation! The ship lap is beautiful and I really like how you try things in one area first. Smart! The Aldi sunflower seeds are the best I've ever had. I've been making multigrain sunflower bread (recipe on the King Arthur website) that is so good. I toast it and drizzle with honey. The goat cheese "logs" at Aldi are also a good buy and we love the Appleton Farm applewood smoked bacon. You are smart to hold on to well made furniture, especially with the supply chain/inflation issues now. Peyton's room looks great! Wishing you a wonderful week!
