Nice perspective Bry! I sold a Hulk 181 and a ASM 129, both in near mint at a minimum, to help pay for my wedding reception back in 1994. I got $450 for each book totalling $900. As you already know the Hulk is at &70,000 and the ASM around 30,000 +. I am still sick over them. What makes it ok is were still married, and my wife and children are worth more. I agree with your logic and emotional attachment in perspective completely.

I just bought a CGC ASM #252 in a 9.0. It was far less than $1,200 and a much better grade than my CGC 4.5 copy. Its one of my favorite books that I can't afford in high grade, but am happy with what I got

So a couple things, 1st I love that you interview the people you buy the books from now. It’s a nice twist to your show and we get to hear from these people who decided to sell there collections. 2nd I have two books that are near and dear to me and they aren’t very expensive comics but I love them. The Saga of the Swamp Thing #1 and Batman and the Outsiders #1. I remember picking those books up as a kid in a candy store. 3rd and last is kudos to Gem Mint for talking about his situation. When I saw his video a week ago I was pretty shocked as well and it made me think that something like that can happen to anyone. Anyway, great show and I love that you’re are here for our hobby.

I had to sell my Edge of Spiderverse 2 land 9.8 during covid to make ends meet. It was my copy I bought off the shelf 10 years prior. It was tough at the time, knowing this was my personal copy and I probably wouldn’t own it again. But ultimately right decision. Helped me when I needed it most, and I sold it at the heights of its price.

I see where you are coming from. It is soooo easy to work yourself into a hole because of your love of the hobby, but from what I have seen, you have that strength to show the restraint needed to keep your business IN business. You are battling yourself every day, you see all of these awesome books and YOU know that they NEED to go. You are breaking free from the nature that we all have of wanting to hold onto this stuff. I understand your worry after acquiring such a massive collection and it looks like that line moving out of the red is at a crawl, but you have the great advantage of having this popular channel, with your solid ethical standard and you are striking while the iron is hot. Just have faith that that gauge will turn soon enough and the profits will start to roll in. You got me wondering about the new employee if you are fanboying over it!

HOLY SMOKAMOLIES BATMAN! Rock Bottom was where my brother would go to get his comics, and he got me into it, chilling to hear that name! My brother passed and now I have his collection. In 1984, we could've been there with that guy, but a 15 year age gap. I'm sure I've got some rock bottom stuff laying around. Like the bags they used to use. Old downtown building on Dickson Street in Fayetteville, dark in the back with light showing through the front windows of the long, straight, one room old brick building. Desk in the front left with the new holds behind, worker on a bar chair. Comics lining the left wall with bagged books hanging up, boxes on the shelves. Tons of science fiction books in the middle, and new books in the front. No swords, no statues, no cards. Wow, weird mysteries.

Bry, Crunch some #'s with me real quick. I would like comics to be my side-hustle. In my glorified efficiency Apt I currently have 9 short boxes for inventory - 8 reg boxes,1 magazine box. According to the internet, each of the 8 reg short boxes holds 175 bagged and boarded raw books. That's a total of 1400 books. I figure if I keep it stocked with books I could EASILY sell for $10 each, then I would have $14000 worth of inventory at 100% capacity. My goal is to generate at least $2857 a month which would cover me and the wife's shared expenses: rent-1419; cell-230; internet-100; 251-groceries/flex; and 857~ for overhead. (According to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels you should always retain at least 30% of revenue for overhead - 2000 is 70% of 2857.) So based on how you once said you pay max 60-ish % of FMV, I figure if I would only keep books that are worth a minimum of $15 most of which I could sell at a 30-ish % discount for 10, and blow out anything cheaper in a 'stuff your mailer for a flat fee' kind of promotion. Of course books higher than the floor would be priced closer to FMV until they sell or until their age in my store nessecitates a deeper discount to move it. No one can predict the future, but that's my game plan. What do you think? What would you change? PS the short boxes are displayed on a chest high shelf all in a row and there's the future possibility of going two-high, expanding to 16 total boxes.

I bought two of those ASM 252s most likely off the shelf at Forbidden Planet in NYC (possibly at Fat Jack's in Philadelphia) in the spring of 1984: one to read (carefully) and one to bag and board immediately! Earlier this year, I slabbed them and got a CGC 9.4 and a 9.6 (considering a resub, but that's a long story). I sold the 9.4 but even though I have a 9.8 (Newsstand, incidentally, from a Bry's Mystery Box sale), I will keep that 9.6 for as long as possible, ideally forever! I'd sell the 9.8 Newsstand, first.

It may help you mentally to change your perspective. It's in the name of the business........"Bry's Comics"....... In stead of thinking "inventory" vs "P.C." you should look at your inventory as your "fluid" or "liquid" collection and what you currently call your "P.C." as the "hard" collection. That way, in your mind's eye, you can view your ENTIRE INVENTORY as being your collection.
