I got to play one of these recently and HOLY SHNIZZ they record sssooo good. Times low for a rock metal type thing. Jesus. Almost like they were samples toms and kick. Very very impressive drums. They hit a home run.

Thanks my birthday is actually today! I sold the DW kit when I left DW. It was a nice kit for sure. Sounded nice for sure, but took a little more effort to tune vs the Pearl gear I have. The finish on it was gorgeous. I’m going to order a masterworks kit one day and might have a finish close to that.

Yes they are!! I chose Pearl because they are easy to tune, I have access to ALL percussion (Latin percussion, concert percussion, electronics, etc) plus they are affordable. With the previous company I was with it, it’s kind of hard to say yeah go spend $12,000 on a kit that you can essentially get the same results for a fraction of the cost. Plus the hardware is killer!

Hey Juan! Amazing kit man…I have been looking at these for awhile now. Do you ever run into the 14x20 kick sliding out a bit when you play it? Looking into a 20 kick and I know some people have talked about bass drum creep…would love your thoughts!

I haven’t noticed anything! Just put the spikes out and it usually doesn’t move. 20x14 is my favorite size and play a 20 all the time. Never had an issue. Also if you’re on the fence about a maple/gum kit I will say it’s probably the best recording kit I’ve ever owned.

Earthworks sr25 OH, on Toms and snare DM20s and I have a sr25 on the hi hat and under the snare as well. Inside kick mic is an audix d6 and the outside a AKG D12VR. Room mic, shure SM27

Maple gum from what I’ve experienced so far has a wider tuning range, also a little more tone because the hardware is not as heavy as the reference kit so the shell can resonate a little more. Also they are not as heavy as the reference kit. The reference kit is heavy.
